haha i laughed at the tight end rankings too. did you know shaincoe isnt the best TE on the vikes? according to the master formula, kleinsasser is better. who wouldve thunk it?

EDIT - oh, and adrian peterson is the 17th best running back.

Not one Cards offensive lineman has a positive rating. If Warner retires it is going to be ugly next year.

Over each of the past three seasons, Nnamdi has been #1 in receptions allowed by a cornerback taking at least 550 snaps. That's just silly.

i would ignore the sabermetric part and just use the extra stats that espn and nfl.com don't provide

It isn't sabermetrics at all. fenikz is right. This is just an odd re-arranging of traditional statistics.

when dealing with percentages, it doesn't matter how many times someone is targeted. He could have been thrown at 111 times, 11 times or 1,111 times. The number of times he was targeted isn't impressive, it's the percentage. (obviously if he was only targeted 11 times, someone could claim luck - but you get my point)

Um, okay? The number of times would be a large part (half-precisely) of deducing that percentage. Or did you mean that percentage is the most impressive statistic? Because there are corners who teams only throw at if they know they have an open man, leading to a higher percentage, but less production allowed.

I use this site a fair bit, it's a pretty good reference point when trying to gauge how good a player is other than using nfl.com/stats

I stopped taking this site seriously when they ranked Vernon Davis as the 57th most valuable tight end in the NFL.

Thanks. I stand by my point. Obviously it varies on a case-by-case basis, with Asomugha being the prime example.

The site's overall ratings are atrocious, but the stats are legit. Like someone mentioned, they don't weight the different categories. for a running back they weight running ability, receiving ability, and blocking ability the same. It's a good site for corner back and offensive line statistics and it also gives you a pretty good idea how a player performed in different facets of the game. That said, the overall ratings of a player are utterly worthless until they figure out that not all attributes should be weighted the same.

Agreed. Percentage is part of the evaluation process in my opinion, but to suggest it is the most telling statistic is ridiculously absurd for the reason you already stated. Percentages can be inflated by overthrows, dropped passes, receiver slipping, etc.

I still cant believe some fans live by this stuff. Pretty hilarious really. But anyway, the NFL should make drops an "official" statistic. Every one of these sites has different drop numbers. And to see Roy Williams with only 8 drops is laughable.

Most people don't know what constitutes an actual drop though. If the ball is thrown behind a receiver or at his feet, then it isn't considered a drop. If the receiver has to leap high into the air or lunge/dive for the ball it isn't a drop. I know some people have the attitude that "if a ball even grazes your fingers you need to catch it," but that isn't necessarily what the drop statistic is about.

Here is "more reliable source" that also indicates Williams only had 8 dropped passes this season.

I'm still baffled as to why a majority seem to think Nnamdi is no longer an elite corner and put Revis and Woodson in a tier above him. This is coming off a year where he was only targeted 28 times and only gave up 1 TD while playing 980 snaps. No one else who played 980 snaps or more was targeted less than 71 times.

I know it's not the easiest stat to distinguish sometimes but, the guy certainly had a lot more than 8 "clean" drops.

It also says Braylon only dropped 4 all season.
