Here are my thoughts from yesterday's practice.

It was amazing to me that just a couple steps to his left made such a big difference that Iupati was getting bull-rushed and ragdolled by a couple of bigger DE-types while at OG he was dominating Neal and another guy I saw him against.. Smith, maybe?
I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 20 (is he better than Hutchinson or Andrews was?)... but I think he will definitely go in as an OG with perhaps the long-term goal of turning him into an OT.

Actually, the ball is the only thing they are tackling. I'm surprised there aren't more balls on the ground.

Bummer. If that's the case I'd guess he'll drop to the 3rd or later.

I absolutely love that mean streak in him, he's been rumored to us quite a bit lately and I love it. He'd fit in perfectly at LG for us.

I've said it before the Senior bowl, there's no reason why the 49ers won't take him at 16/17, especially if we don't get one of the top tackles. We just have too many needs at the O-line.

Finally watched 12pm practice but it is not enough to judge. OL Tom Welch just joined. I like him as our RT.
QB group looked okay but they have no chance to climb into 2nd round.
RB Bell and WR Ford looked good. H-back Dickerson has enough juice to play wideout but he played against Thompson.
I still like Thompson. Corey Ivy type CB for Jets, please.

I think he probably came in as a 4th, has moved to 3rd and can probably move to 2nd if he aces the combine. Stock risers from what i can gather from the Senior Bowl:
Kyle Wilson
Vlad Ducasse
Dexter McCluster
Mike Iupati
Cooper
Legarette Blount

I know Jaguars fans dont want any part of it..BUT if Tebow is still on the board when they pick in the 3rd round..it would be hard to pass on him..definately NOT before then..but..end of 3rd round..

Sean Weatherspoon seems to be having a good week so far. From the sound of things, it seems like he's been lining up at MLB. He definitely has the range to play the position but can anyone verify this?

I don't know about Ducasse, as some mentioned his name toward the end of the first round/early second round. His weigh-in revealed a massive OL, with a thick lower body and long arms. That was the highlight of the week for him. Yesterday, Vlad got eaten alive at both Tackle and Guard. I think we already see he was hyped up a bit too much coming into the game. Plenty of size, enough athleticism, just doesn't appear to be as ready for high competition as we thought. I'm thinking Vlad drops to the top of the Third Round.

I'd say Myron Rolle as well.

Yes sir. Weatherspoon likely fits best on the outside (WLB or SLB) but he has worked in the middle and feels it suits his strengths just fine. He's had fun moving around this week, and is turning this week into a great experience. He has tremendous range, athleticism, and physicality but he'll need to work on taking better angles (he'll over-pursue and take himself out of some plays) and he'll need to improve using his hands to rip blockers and avoid being engulfed due to a lack of length.
I like Spoon a lot, I have since last season (where I felt he was a Mid-First Round pick). He didn't have the strongest Senior campaign, but he should still be among the first 30 picks come April. He's sitting at 15th Overall on my Board right now, though I feel he's more likely to wind up in the 20-35 range on draft day.

I think 3rd makes sense. The thing i like is he's huge and has a bit of an attitude. The fact he goes to my alma mater doesnt hurt.

Thanks for the update.
IMO Weatherspoon has been underrated all season. He may not be the biggest LB or the fastest, but he's a player. One thing I keep reading about and seeing on NFLN is that his mouth is working about as hard as he is. I like that in a player, someone who is vocal, has attitude and lets his play back it up.

I'd say Brandon Graham has to be a riser if Mayock's calling him a late first rounder right now and moving up.

Right now Jeff Owens looks the part of a 4-3 NT and teammate Geno Atkins that of a 4-3 UT.

Andre Roberts looks great. That was the first time I saw him and I came away very impressed.

I don't know what exactly he's done to raise his stock besides a few spectacular grabs. His stock has likely remained the same with the opportunity to move up into the third if things go as anticipated by advocators such as yourself. Remember, Louis Murphy fell to the fourth in spite of a solid combine showing, and Cooper faces much of the same questions having taken over similar responsibilities in the quirky offense at Florida.

I think in a group of WRs where nobody has really stood out he doesnt look out of place. I havent seen a lot of what is going on there just seeing limited clips and reading some well respected rundowns. From what i've gathered his routes have been pretty good, size and speed shouldnt be an issue.

I just finished watching South practice. TV wasted a good 20 minutes on team stretching, boring DB drills and few pointless drills.
QB group looks good. It should be better than North qb group easy.
Cooper had up and down moments but is clearly struggling to catch a harder pass.
Webb does not show anything to be a wideout. He should go back to qb.
Ben Tate rocks. Love him. He blocks well. Dixon lost balance.
Mays has shown nothing as a gamer. Wait for a real game?
Cody scared me. Slow but power swats he made.
Atkins shows good strength playing inside.
TE Jimmy Graham could not block well. He stepped back too far.

It's by no means prototypical, but it doesn't look like it will be as big of a problem as expected. More so, you can really tell he was out there competing. That's the cliche about Tebow, but it really rings true. He also has a better deep ball than I gave him credit for. He completed an absolute bomb to McCluster, who stood out the most today, even though it required McCluster to make a nice play on it. Still, the ball was at the appropriate shoulder 40+ yards down the field and the defender didn't have any chance to make a play on it. He really thrived driving the ball down the field, which is something I didn't expect at all. Couldn't really get a sense of how he was adapting to the reads and such as I only caught the one on ones, but still, it was a lot better than I initially thought.
|
People are so sure that he's not a QB that they completely overlook that there isn't a QB in this draft that throws a better deep ball than Tim Tebow.
What will be key for him is learning how to go through progressions. And being accurate on the intermediate routes and timing patterns.
Anyone who questions this guy's velocity or his ability to throw the deep ball, they could not be further from the truth.
