Think maybe the ongoing Auburn investigation might be factor in his hesitation?
Like the pundits making his lead story about De'Anthony "The Black Mamba" Thomas switching from SC to Oregon when there isn't any other news to report..... just b/c he's from Crenshaw in The Hood doesnt mean he's uninformed.
http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com...sp?CID=1184626
SC is on probation, hellllloooo. Oregon has been & continues to be the greatest Pac 12 beneficary of USC's probation.

Wait... didn't Purdue just get barred from recruiting at Armwood Highschool for pulling the scholarship of A.J. King because they were worried about the knee ligament surgery he underwent last year?
I thought this kind of thing never went on the Big-Ten....
Nevermind Illinois having 27 commitments.

Big Ten allows you to take 28 kids as long as you don't go over the 85 limit. Illinois has complied with the Big Ten's rules. And while I don't condone the actions of Purdue, there is a difference between dropping a kid a few days before NSD while they still have time to find another school (King committed to Western Michigan yesterday) and forcing players off the team after they're already on campus. But please, continue making an ass out of yourself.

Just listened to an interview with Dwyer's head coach, apparently one of the top defenders in the country was committed to a school in Florida, but a coach from that school called him a dumb mofo to another coach and that coached recorded it, and the kid committed else where. Anyone hear about this/know who it was?

the only problem with Walker is that a guy who is 6'6/355 should dominate people but he didn't, and he played guard in high school instead of tackle -which is where the best guy usually plays when he's 6'6". It's not that he underachieved in high school, just that he didn't play like he was enormous, rather like he was 290 lbs instead of 350+. That's really the one knock on him. He doesn't get beat or anything like that, he's a good run blocker and very quick on his feet in pass pro, he's just not as dominant as his physical talents suggest he should be. If he had a mean streak he'd be a 5-star top 20 player.

Also, they only pulled King's scholarship after he turned down a grey shirt opportunity, meaning that he was still being offered a scholarship.
I think they should have told him a lot sooner (assuming they didn't), but honestly, with a kid coming off a huge injury, I'd grey shirt him too.

Let's not let facts get in the way of a good time.
27 commitments in the SEC just means you're about three or four behind the average. As a matter of fact, Illinois' class would be tied for third-largest in the SEC with Tennessee and Ole Miss (who must be sad about the small class compared to their recent history). They'll backdate two of them to last year. But yeah, we can cherrypick for your argument if you want.

The SEC signed 47 more players than the Big 10 this year. With the average Big 10 class sitting at 20 recruits, that is enough extra recruits for 2.35 Big 10 schools; in other words, the 291 recruits the SEC signed would be enough to supply roughly 14.5 Big 10 schools with the conference average class size. With each school averaging 4 more players, if you extend that for 4 years, each SEC school would have signed on average 16 more players over a four year period, which is just slightly less than the average recruiting class size in the Big 10. So basically, the SEC is working their way through 5 recruiting classes in 4 years. Guys don't pan out, some don't qualify, some run into the Nick Saban medical hardship machine, and others decide that Georgia State is where they always dreamed of playing. It would be one thing if this was an anomaly, but the historical data shows that this has been the case for some time.
|
Alabama had one unfilled scholarship and 12 departures (Eight seniors, Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, Marcell Dareus and a transfer), so that's a budget of 13 scholarships. Looks like they brought in a class of 21. In what world does 23=13?
Roll Tide, son. We'll get you ready for the NFL. Pro-style offense, pro-style defense and roster cuts.
Sad, too, because I really like a lot of Alabama's players. I'm actually sad that Ingram and Jones are gone because I had huge man-crushes on them, especially after they bitchslapped Sparty. At least I'll have Thunder Thighs Trent Richardson, though. He's dreamy <3, and so is Dre Kirkpatrick.
EDIT: For the record, I think Saban is a great on-field coach and a tremendous recruiter. I just don't like the practice of oversigning, especially so blatantly. <Insert Shot at Big 10 here from SEC fans, LOLZ 5 NASHUNAL TYTLLLES IN A ROW>. I don't really care. I don't like it when any team does it, but it's more prevalent in the SEC.

As Sniper pointed out, you guys aren't too good at math.
Illinois had room to sign that many and be at 85. They had early enrollees to back date a few to last year. Alabama did not. Auburn did not. Ole Miss did not. Etc...
I.e. the point is, you have to cut kids after signing day. That's the moral hazard. The B1G does not allow this. Most schools in the country don't allow this. Hell, half of the SEC schools don't allow this.
So Saban has to somehow cut 10 players off of his team and from his incoming recruits. Enjoy the unethical advantage while it lasts. It's going away sooner than later. There's enough noise about it out there, where even the UF AD has gone national with statements.

Don't worry though. They have enough unethical advantages that losing oversigning will only put a tiny dent in their overall skeeviness.

Washington isn't one of his finalists. It's basically between UM and UF with a small chance of Wisconsin.
