27 commitments in the SEC just means you're about three or four behind the average. As a matter of fact, Illinois' class would be tied for third-largest in the SEC with Tennessee and Ole Miss (who must be sad about the small class compared to their recent history). They'll backdate two of them to last year. But yeah, we can cherrypick for your argument if you want.
http://oversigning.com/testing/index...n-b1g-and-sec/
Alabama had one unfilled scholarship and 12 departures (Eight seniors, Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, Marcell Dareus and a transfer), so that's a budget of 13 scholarships. Looks like they brought in a class of 21. In what world does 23=13?
Roll Tide, son. We'll get you ready for the NFL. Pro-style offense, pro-style defense and roster cuts.
Sad, too, because I really like a lot of Alabama's players. I'm actually sad that Ingram and Jones are gone because I had huge man-crushes on them, especially after they bitchslapped Sparty. At least I'll have Thunder Thighs Trent Richardson, though. He's dreamy <3, and so is Dre Kirkpatrick.
EDIT: For the record, I think Saban is a great on-field coach and a tremendous recruiter. I just don't like the practice of oversigning, especially so blatantly. <Insert Shot at Big 10 here from SEC fans, LOLZ 5 NASHUNAL TYTLLLES IN A ROW>. I don't really care. I don't like it when any team does it, but it's more prevalent in the SEC.
|
I'm sure Alabama has a larger budget for scholarships than a lot of places do... I'm not sure what Purdue or any other Big-Ten school has.
Alabama has the Bear Bryant Scholarship which automatically allows for any kid who's father played at Alabama to get a full ride... doesn't matter if he was an All American or a 4th stringer... Doesn't matter if he was a 5-star recruit or a walk-on.
If Purdue and/or Illinois aren't breaking any "written" rules, then neither is Alabama, or anyone else in the SEC.
What it amounts to is a bunch of Big-Ten crybabies looking for something to whine about due to being sick of watching their team's get curb stomped by the SEC.
Nick Saban offered Robert Quinn a scholarship when he was diagnosed with brain cancer whether he played a single down of football or not.
The bottom line is, the "losers" and "leftovers" in the Big-Ten could have ALL these kids that "get whacked" from SEC teams and would've have changed a single outcome in any of these games.
****, somebody get the ******* WAAAAAAAMBULANCE in here with some band-aids and lollipops for the Big-Ten- Butt-Hurts.

Um, false. The maximum allowable amount of players on scholarships for any school is 85. Dassit.

My favorite team is something like 20-5-1 against the SEC. Try again.

Back when, um, everyone offered Robert Quinn a scholarship? How noble of him.

Good one. Nice to see you've moved on from a fourth-grade level of education. You're doing well. When all else fails, just insult what you're debating. Fantastic logic. You add nothing to this conversation besides am hominem attacks. Solid work.
I'll ask again. In what world does having 13 scholarships available mean that you bring in 21? Maybe my math skills need work.

You know, actually I think he's right. Who cares if SEC coaches are ******* with these kids' lives? It's all about football and winning, right? As long as you win bowl games you can ruin the lives of 17-22 year olds. And yes, being 3-1 against the SEC in our last four games against them with the one loss coming under the worst coach in our school's history mean we are in fact butt-hurt.

So Bama can actually field a team of like 100 guys? They hand out their 85 football scholarships. Then they find another 15 guys who's father played at Bama so thats not a football scholarship its more like academic and then they try out for the football team and make it? WTF loop holes for the WINZZ.
Scholarships are year to year they can be taken from players, but its pretty unethical to do it in August/July during TC and summer practices. They kid can't even get another scholarship or transfer to a school

also with auburns new staff, they havent been oversigning at all. tuberville left them in a below-average situation scholorship wise (not alot of kids on the team).
2010 was the first year they had a full season of recruiting and they signed 32.
5 counting back to the past year. so thats at 28 and then 1 didnt qualify and 1 got cancer. so thats at 26.
and if i counted right.. with all the seniors leaving and people going pro they have 55 people on schollys.
they have 24 signed in this class and if cyrus comes thats 25.

But those 5 early guys still should count against you for the new year. Just cause they enroll early they do not become part of the new class. Who knows how long before coaches tell juniors the smart ones, finish up your classes and graduate early. Enroll in Dec/Jan and you won't count.

Tennessee oversigned by one player this year. And that's because there is likely to be an academic casualty and Tennessee can't afford to not have a full class with the amount of attrition they've had the past 2-3 years.

Wouldnt it make more sense for Brisset to go to the U with Driskel and Trey Burton likely being the future at UF?

I was about to say the same thing, because I think Driskel will get the Tebow praise. With Jacory out the picture the only 1 he would have to compete with was Morris.

He thinks he can beat out Driskel and he definitely has the ability to do so in a pro offense.

I'm glad Brissett chose Florida. I don't think Miami's new guy is that great, and he will be the only non-senior QB on scholarship for them this upcoming season if I've heard right.
