Not really worried about it. The Royals locked up a solid player for market value. Frenchy and Melky have been blocking Cain all year, but that means they've been playing well enough to have blocked a really good prospect from coming up. Cain is in AAA so he doesn't lose AB's.
And why on Earth would anyone complain about a 27 year old, .280/15/66 hitter who is more known for his defense getting a new two-year deal. That's a good move. By any stretch... Frenchy will be in his prime when the Royals are making their championship pushes.
And with Melky... Why are we so set on dumping a 27 year old, .310/16/73 centerfielder who plays really good defense?! He's YOUNG! This isn't a fluke season, he's just finally coming into his own. He's a career .275 hitter who worked really hard in the off-season and turned the corner. This is another guy who will be in his prime for the Royals' championship runs. The only issue with Melky v. Cain is that the Royals need a lead-off hitter to push Gordo to #2 (Gordo is the ideal #2 hitter) and Melky, realistically, is more of a #6 hitter.
The outfield is set, really. They have guys coming up, and should be a pretty deep unit without making any moves. They're just waiting for the infielders to turn the corner offensively. If Moose Tacos gets his bat going and Hosmer makes that 2nd year leap, this is one of the best line-ups in baseball. Already is one of the best defensive teams.
I'd hope the line-up looks something like:
1. Giavotella (2B)
2. Gordon (LF)
3. Hosmer (1B)
4. Moustakas (3B)
5. Butler (DH)
(might flip Moose and Billy)
6. Cabrera (CF)
7. Franceour (RF)
8. Perez (C)
9. Escobar (SS)
That's a damn good line-up. Especially if Escobar can keep it around .260 (.280 since May) and Perez finds a bat.
It's all about starting pitching (the bullpen is already legit). This team is a lot closer to taking the AL Central than people realize. The starting pitching holds them back soooo much. I think they're one really nice pitcher away from winning the AL Central in 2012.

I love me some Melky.
And apparently the Yanks signed Scott Proctor last week and I think he's in AAA right now. I was a huge fan of him his first go around with the Yankees. Too bad Joe Torre abused and ruined him.

But he went 0-4 last night. I did not appreciate that at all as a fantasy player.

That's an easier comparison as they play the same position. But Grandy is having a better season.

Joey Bats, Jacoby, Pedroia, are all over Grandy right now. Grandy's not even the best CF on his team defensively.

It's factored in, otherwise Berkman would be getting more consideration. Give me Bautista (how anyone would give it to anyone else is beyond me) and Melvin's brother.

Really now that Bautista has slowed down a little bit Bautista/Ellsbury/Pedroia/Granderson are all good choices. Definitely between those 4, someone will probably pull away down the stretch.

Are you just going to read to me the list of WAR? Which Granderson's is brought down because of his ridiculous rating on defense.

He's 9th in Baseball Reference WAR, which is must less defensive dependent. It's either Bautista or Verlander for me.

I'm not reading the WAR list but it's not suprising that's right because those players have all been more "valuable."
