There was not a pitcher on JV's level this year....Kershaw's numbers were ridiculous and Im a huge Dodgers fan...but Verlanders season was damn good.

Verlander was better but it wasn't by leaps and bounds over Sabathia. Did I say he didn't deserve the CY?

He's completely right.
And jesus xio youre acting like a 10 year old. People aren't even saying it's a terrible pick, just that they wouldn't personally pick him. You can't possibly be this mad about that.

Maybe they're finally moving Feliz to the rotation?

I assumed Mike Adams would be the closer for the Rangers. Nathan might just be a set up guy.

2 years $14 million for Nathan. That's more than I thought he'd get.

My guess is that Feliz to the rotation has been a given secretly for a while now. They need to find out if he can do it and if not, there is always a fall back option, but they need to find out. Getting Nathan is a nice pick up that I am very happy with! I think the battle for closer will be determined later, but picking up a guy with experience like Nathan adds "healthy" (I hope I didn't just jinx him) competition.

That's definite closer money. I didn't think he'd get that either. Interesting, but the investment is short so it's nothing handcuffing.

This I know. I tried trading for him in Xio's league and had to give up more than I could afford.

If healthy, that's a terrific pickup for the Rangers. Feliz can go to the rotation in case Wilson leaves, but I think they still need another starter.
As far as Verlander winning the MVP goes, I suspect that he won it for the same reason Derrick Rose won it, in that he carried a good team that had a lot of very good players but not as much star power (except Cabrera).

What do you think about the Rangers strategy to build their team? Heavy investment on bats, defense, relief pitching and international scouting?

Nathan is not a terrific pickup at 7 million a year.
Remember how much people laughed when Joaquin Benoit signed for 5.5 million a year? Well, he was a stud, but even then he's probably overpaid. Nathan is getting closer money off pre-Tommy John reputation.

I think Wilson is gone. The Rangers can't lead or match the market for him if it's anywhere near Ace type money. I think they'll continue to use #2 or #3 type arms and bank on runs, defense and relief pitching. Last year Wilson, Lewis, and Holland were no better than #2 or #3 SP worthy on a good staff. I think Holland has the stuff to make him a future #2 starter and Lewis is a good #3 starter. If Feliz can be that kind of starting pitcher, then I can see the Rangers maintaining their formula.
There have been talks of trading for John Danks if CJ leaves, which I would gladly welcome. They must continue to hope that Ogando progresses and that Feldman can stay healthy. Which future direction those 2 go is still up in the air.

It's not like they're going to be drafting early enough to get true star players so international scouting is the way to go. I like the defense and power, but I would put a little more emphasis on starting pitching, even though it was the relief pitching that let them down at the end.

Oh he'd have gotten Papelbon $$$ if it was pre-TJ surgery. This is just another Xio hyperbole.

It's been a forgone conclusion in my mind that Danks is going there at some point. The Sox are probably going into full-on rebuilding and Danks would get the best return out of our pieces right now. At least you guys can score runs for him every once in a while since he was 6th in the AL for worst run-support (3 guys ahead of him played for the Mariners at one point). I'm not sure he's going to be an elite #1 starter, but at least he can be a competent 2 or 3. I think he needs something to get lefties out with. He has a cutter and a changeup for the right handers, but nothing to put away lefties.

Translated into Xio hyperbole:
Nathan is a ******* garbage signing that should cost Daniels his job for such a gross overpayment of an over the hill slob of a human pitcher.

Joe Nathan is 37, so let's not exaggerate things.

Yea, Danks isn't an ace. I don't think they have imaginations of that. Only that he is just another competent 2 or 3 guy on a good staff. There's no budget or means of convincing Ace type SPs to come to Texas, so like the Phillies did last year, there will be no "4 Aces" type rotation. ...but maybe a mixture of Kings and Queens will do. lol.
