I doubt he was trying to hit the ump, but that's still ******* stupid to fire it into the ground right in front of him.

yeah it was moronic for him to do that, and while he may not have intentionally attempted to hit the ump with the helmet, fact of the matter is that the helmet did hit the umpire and that can't be tolerated

Jim Bowden has a article up on ESPN on why the Red Sox and Phillies should sell at the trade deadline. How this guy once was a GM and is employed to write such ******** truly amazes me.

His best article ever was last year when he said he uses a stat called OPSBI's. I actually felt bad for him for the ridicule he was getting online but it had to be the single dumbest article I've ever seen from a supposed "professional."

He only deserves one or two at most. He got extra cause his helmet bounced in a certain direction.

A certain direction? You mean the exact direction he threw it. Where do you think it's gonna bounce?
He walked towards the ump and spiked his helmet 2 feet in front of him. It's not like it took some crazy bounced that curved around and just happened to make contact with the ump. He probably wasn't intentionally trying to hit the ref, but he certainly wasn't concerned about not hitting him either.

I don't even care that the helmet hit the guy, those calls were terrible and it was pretty obvious the ump was just showing him up on that last one. There needs to be some kind of discipline for umpires because stuff like this happens too often and I can't remember hearing about many umps getting in trouble.

So you get 5 games for actually hitting someone purposely which can cause a lot of harm but slamming a helmet only gets you 1 game less? Is Shanahan working for MLB now?

The fan throwing stuff at the ump was much funnier.

Seriously are you going to argue that 5 games for Hamels is anywhere in the realm of this? That is just plain ********.

Hamels got 5 games for talking about it. Throwing at a hitter has been much more acceptable in the history of the game than an outburst like Lawrie's.

Plus 5 games for a starting pitcher is giving an extra day rest, and thats it. I think the suspension is about right...

Exactly which makes it even more maddening. A 5 game suspension for a SP is nothing.

Ugghh this loss is on you Terry. Learn how to manage a bullpen please.
Silver lining: RU alum Todd Frazier took us to the woodshed.

That was an awful call.
Meanwhile, the Royals are on their way to winning 3 in a row over the best teams in the AL. Nice. Also, Filipe Paulino is throwing a ******* gem.

There is no one hopefully that is disputing that that was an awful call, both were, but especially the second one. Woulda been interesting to see if Lawrie didn't go halfway to first base on the first bad one if the ump woulda called that strike 3. That wasn't even close. 4 games is defntly right prolly, but I think the ump should get some time too.

No ump has faced disciplinary action since the Milton Bradley fiasco, I believe.
