I mean Stokely is 37, Breaston is 29. I know it's just age but TBH, I'd much rather have Breaston.

Even with the age difference is Breaston a better player than Stokley? I don't think either are or should be more than 1-year rentals at this point in their careers (Stokely at the end of his, Breaston isn't good) and with that in mind the age difference doesn't really matter.

Breaston had 7 catches last year. Granted he was at KC but I doubt he is an improvement of what we have.

BTW has anyone focused in on Ricky Wagner this pre season? I haven't but a lot of ppl are claiming he can be the LT of the future. What do you think

No. Wagner is a RT or G only. He doesn't have the quickness or great length in absence of quickness to be playing there. He should be a solid depth OL for the Ravens but that's probably about it unless Oher isn't re-signed and he beats Reid out for RT.

We just traded David Reed for Delone Carter.

Didn't care much for Reed but why for Carter??

probably a way to get rid of Reed multi year deal. Reed was always a coaches favorite Im shocked we got rid of him.

I wonder if Mellette and Brown playing better then expected have anything to do with it.

Mildly surprised to see Reed go. Seem like were just trading junk. A #4/5 WR for a #3 RB

None of the RBs other than Rice and Pierce are worth much. With Pierce's durability concerns it's probably a good idea to have a capable #3 RB (it's a good idea to have as many good RBs as you can actually). Carter is a legit power runner too. I like his fit.

For what it's worth trading Reed for Carter saves about $700,000 over two years (both have two years left on their contract). I'm not sure what the per-year savings is but it's not that much.

You guys think this means Allen will be cut? Then Juice becomes the lead blocker on Kick offs?

Yeah I don't think any of Allen, Berry, or Rainey are making the roster. Unless Carter absolutely sucks in the next 9 days I think he'll definitely make the roster and I don't foresee the Ravens keeping more than 3 RBs when they're going to have Leach and Juszczyk on the roster too.

I loved Delone Carter as a prospect coming out and Reed is basically indistinguishable if not a slightly lesser version of Doss, and as coordinator mentioned, it saves us a nice little chunk of change too.

This is just Ozzies opening gambit. Now he will jedi mind trick the young, inexperienced Grigson to send Reggie Wayne to Baltimore for a 3rd round pick.. BOOK IT!! :-)

what is the holding back the offense excuse? I believe we are holding it back and making it boring because we need someone to emerge w/ the boring routes and be the check down WR.

The Ravens had to pay dead money ($500,000 signing bonus) to Reed with either a trade or a release, per Wilson. Reed is reportedly scheduled to make $630,000 in base salary, Carter is set to make $550,000.

So no clear need was met. There's no clear financial savings.

I ended up reading that Flacco has yet to throw a pass deeper than ten yards. I guess it wouldn't be holding back but more trying to determine who can fill the role for short routes and check downs since we have two deep threats.

It's the preseason. Just about EVERYTHING is held back. The schemes, players, play calls, etc. The offense could go out and score 40 points in the first half tonight and I wouldn't read anything into it.

Yeah, like I said before any savings aren't much. I was too quick to post the total numbers earlier. Reed's base salaries for this year and next year are $630,000 and $730,000. Carter's are $555,000 and $645,000. That's $160,000 over two years. Meh. I still think Carter has more value as a football player than Reed though so even if this ended up costing the Ravens a bit of salary cap space instead of saving some I would still like the move.

Reed wasn't going to give us any more production than any other WR we have and Pierce having injury issues makes it a good decision. I mean if we are going to pay someone it might as well be a guy who could actually see the field. I didn't understand signing Reed in the first place.

I wonder what this means for Doss. Reed is just as bad a WR as doss but offers more as a KR and special teamer. I wonder if Doss will even make the team now. Perhaps we go Smith/Jones/Stokely/Thompson/Mellette or Brown. With LaQuan Williams being the designated special teamer

Eh, Reed would have seen plenty of playing time on special teams as a gunner. He's a pretty good one too. I wasn't too surprised that they re-signed Reed given how much of an emphasis the Ravens have put on special teams since Harbaugh became the head coach.

I think we have guys on our roster that can fill in Reeds roles and roster spot. We probably just wanted to shore up the 3rd RB spot. As said Pierce has minor injury concerns and no one in my eyes has greatly stood out at RB.

As do I, but like I've said all along I like this trade. It'll be interesting to see if Carter gets any playing time on offense as a true short-yardage back and not just if Rice or Pierce gets injured. Who knows, he might even have some ability on special teams. If not then there might be a good chance Allen beats him out for a roster spot and Carter is nothing more than a 9-day rental before the final cuts are due. I'm hoping that's not the case.

The reason why I think Carter does have a good chance to make the roster cut is if he peforms better as a short yardage runner compared to Allen, who hasn't been great running the football. Allens main attribute was his special teams play, but Rosburg mentioned in an interview, that Juicecheck play the same role in that blocking scheme, so he could step in for Allen, if we chose to keep Carter.
