Great article on BR.com
Quote:
Joe Flacco is growing up before our eyes…and Tomlin’s. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin admitted his strategy was to run time off the clock when his team got the ball with two minutes, 40 seconds remaining and the lead. Tomlin wanted to take his chances with his defense at midfield and force the Ravens to score a touchdown. In other words, he thought his team could stop quarterback Joe Flacco. Lesson learned for Tomlin. He’ll think twice before using that strategy again. As linebacker Ray Lewis said, this was a Joe Montana and John Elway-like moment against one of the best defenses in the league. “That young kid is just starting to develop,” Lewis said.
Releasing Pryce released the Kruger. We will need a few more games to know the full extent of how the release of defensive lineman Trevor Pryce affects the Ravens’ defense. Against the Steelers, however, Baltimore did not miss Pryce. Some observers said Pryce was a liability against the run. Without him, the defense contained the league’s fourth-leading rusher, Rashard Mendenhall, to 79 yards on 25 carries. He had two touchdowns, but a 3.2 yard-per-carry average isn’t too shabby. By stuffing the Steelers’ three straight rushes on Pittsburgh’s second-to-last drive, the defense set up the game-winning drive. It looks like the Ravens knew what they were doing by letting Pryce go.
Pryce’s absence (along with Cory Redding’s concussion) opened the door for young defensive end Paul Kruger, who had been stuck behind veterans on the depth chart. Kruger committed some costly penalties and he sometimes plays high and gets tossed around. But with a high motor, Kruger never gives up and shows playmaking ability. Twice he put his team in a position to get a turnover. If not for offsetting penalties, credit Kruger with a strip-sack inside the Steelers’ 5-yard line. In the fourth quarter, he tipped Batch’s pass at the line of scrimmage and corner Fabian Washington was close to grabbing the interception.
The offensive line can handle Pittsburgh’s pressure. Outside linebackers LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison are the real deal; they can be a quarterback’s worst nightmare. Yet, Flacco sat comfortably in the pocket for most of the afternoon while his receivers had time to finish routes and get open downfield. There isn’t a better example than on the Ravens’ game-winning touchdown play. Tomlin’s defense blitzed Flacco, but tight end Todd Heap came across the formation to pick up the pressure and allowed Flacco to slide to the side and deliver the game’s final dagger. When the offensive line handles its business, the domino effect is wonderful to watch.
Without McGahee, the red zone offense is limited. Running back Willis McGahee suffered a stinger in the second half, but his injury isn’t considered serious. Reports from the team are that he could have returned. But if McGahee was in the game, how would he have affected the Ravens’ penultimate series of the game? The Ravens took to the air twice from the 2-yard line and couldn’t notch the six points. McGahee is as successful as any back in the league in goal-line situations; he already scored from the 9-yard line in the second quarter. Would Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron have called McGahee’s number if he were available? Luckily it didn’t matter because the defense put the ball back into Flacco’s hands and the third-year quarterback delivered the win with his arm anyway. But you can’t underestimate McGahee’s impact on those crucial goal line situations. It will be interesting to watch the injury reports on McGahee this week, not to mention running back Ray Rice and Le’Ron McClain.
‘Housh’ and Mason have not been forgotten – the offense is just evolving. Maybe opponents will sleep on an offensive threat, but Cameron won’t. Perhaps nobody needed this lesson more than T.J. Housmanzadeh, who admitted he wasn’t happy with his playing time thus far this season. Derrick Mason has chosen not to speak to media the past two weeks and many assumed it was because he wasn’t happy with his role either. But as ‘Housh’ said after the game, this offense is evolving and it will do whatever is best for the team. Baltimore has three Pro Bowl receivers, two Pro Bowl running backs, a Pro Bowl fullback and a Pro Bowl tight end. None of these Pro Bowlers have a Super Bowl ring, however. They know they need each other for that. Last week, it was Boldin who had the spotlight in a win. This week it was Houshmandzadeh. Next week a team could sleep on Mason or Rice and they will be the heroes. Nobody has been forgotten; it’s simply time to be patient and take what the defense gives each and every week.

Haloti Ngata has 26 tackles already.
That is unbelievable. I know tackles are not a real good indicator of skill but I think it is good for a DT.

Ngata and Pouncey had some great matchups yesterday. That is going to be one of my most favorite battles in the very short future. To even think that Pouncey is only 20 years old too.

lol, I love how you blame Charlie Batch when he actually played a solid game.
It was your defense's fault you lost, sure Reed coulda made both those FG's, but when the game was on the line, your defense chocked,
don't gimmie crap about Big Ben not being in there or Reed missin FG's, you don't see HinesWardJr. or TerribleTowel39 giving excuses.
Steelers vs. Ravens will always be a tight game, no matter who's at QB.

Eh, it was the offenses fault mostly. The defense gave them TWO chances in very good postion to score off turnovers and ended up getting like 2 yards in those two drives. But the defense gets blame for playing conservative all game and not pressuring Flacco. Cameron had a nice game plan by going with 3 step drops and looking for Mason.
Batch was off all day. It also didn't help when Arians handcuffed him the whole game. Batch missed PLENTY of wide open guys all game. IF Ben was playing, I believe the Steelers would have won. Will we never know? No, but that's just my opinion.

It just doesn't make sense to say "If Ben was in we would of won" because who knows if he would of had a ****** day. Either way the Ravens vs Steelers games are always close and always comes down to the last drive. I have no reason not to believe that even with Ben in we would of made it a close game and gave ourselves a shot late in the game just like we did this game. Your defense gave up a late TD and lost the game. Suck it up

This from a guy with a sig line saying "Fire Bruce Arians" who in fact is placing all the blame on Arians...........
SUCK IT HINES! You're D let you down on the game winning drive. Big Bad Troy couldn't beat Todd Heap and Joe Cool found HOUSH!!!!!!!!! in the back in the endzone.
