Ole Miss sophomore RB Rodney Scott was arrested this morning for disturbing the peace, apparently there was a fight. It had been a relatively quiet offseason for us up until this, I had a feeling something was coming.

NY Times article on the SEC Media Days. Been a bad month for the SEC, with the Vol Brawl, the NCAA suspending Bama's Marcel Dareus, and Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina being investigated as well. Not to mention the abrupt retiring of Bobby Johnson, and all the other problems teams have had like arrests and players being kicked off.

I'm getting amped for the season a bit more now that NCAA 2011 is out lol. All jokes aside though, i'm going to be watching Mississippi State closely (the Dan Mullen) affect to see how they do because I have a feeling once again they are going to be on the cusp of a bowl game.

Another headline may be getting added to the list of SEC offseason storylines-

Jeremiah Masoli is in Oxford MS talking to coach Nutt and could be a Rebel next year, and he would be able to play this season. Ole Miss is his top choice followed by Hawaii and LA Tech, but apparently he scratched Hawaii off. There is a lot of debate amongst Ole Miss fans whether this should happen, everyone knows he would make the team better but it would come at a cost to our reputation most likely.

After taking Jamar Hornsby, you don't have a reputation to uphold.

Yeah that was a few days ago, this Masoli thing is directly related to that. Cotton was bitching because we sent Nathan Stanley to the Manning Passing Academy instead of him so he left against the word of what everyone told him including his parents. He is a great talent but this was a very dumb move.

Sniper, I don't know what to tell you...Hornsby was talented but I didn't want him. The fact that he never even suited up because he got arrested again made us look even shittier. I wouldn't say we have no reputation, we are not the only school that has shown a lack of a moral compass at times, but the Hornsby thing was just stupid. We really didn't even need him, but as bad as taking Masoli would be from a morality standpoint he would be a great addition for the team. We would go from having no QB to a guy who many considered to be a Heisman candidate, I really don't like the idea of adding another guy like this but from a pure football perspective it makes sense.

Masoli at Ole Miss, wow. First Newton at Auburn, and now this. The SEC is becoming the home to many good scrambling QB's.

WELCOME TO OLE MISS, MR. <new transferring QB's name here>

They should give Masoli Jevon Snead's old uni no. & locker. Call it the Official Ole Miss Transferee QB locker, maybe put an airline ticket or some out of state license plates attached to the Confederate Battle Flag on it.

Kind of like Mustain's becoming Mallett's at Arkansas :-).

Pffft. Masoli.

You'll all learn to fear this...

I'm feeling a big year for Garcia coming. He's a very poor man's Romo. But he could break out. He had an excellent summer, hopefully it translates come September.

It really falls on the O-Line...the talent is there at WR and RB, with Lattimore in the fold.

Jeffery/Gurley/Saunders/Sanders. Drool.

Not going to make a thread yet because it is not official, but Masoli to Ole Miss is supposedly a go. It should be official by tomorrow. Huge, huge gamble by Nutt that should draw a lot of criticism but if it works out it will be huge for the team. As an Ole Miss fan, I want to see us win games but a lot of people including many Rebel fans are not OK with this and I can understand why. From a football standpoint this is as good as it gets for Ole Miss but adding a guy with a history like Masoli's is very questionable.

Default Did Kiffin leave that revolving door in Knoxville?

Bryce Brown leaves as he lived at Tennessee: Without a word
By Matt Hinton

Not that many Tennessee fans were still holding out hope for Bryce Brown's return after the former blue-chip recruiting coup abruptly left the team before the start of spring practice. But for those few still holding out hope that Brown's continued presence on campus would lead to a moment of epiphany with a full choir singing hosannas to ol' Rocky Top inside his confused, 19-year-old head, Tuesday was the day the music died. From the Knoxville News Sentinenl:

Running back Bryce Brown has left the University of Tennessee without leaving any closure behind.

"Bryce left town without a face-to-face request (with UT coach Derek Dooley) for a transfer," a school official told the News Sentinel on Tuesday evening. "There's still no news on where he wants to go." [...]

"I said (earlier) that I was open to Bryce coming back on the condition that he wanted to unpack his bags and put his heart into this program," Dooley said. "I fully expect Bryce not to be on our team.

"The reason it has continued on is because Bryce has not come to me, looked me in the eye and said I want a release to so-and-so school. At some point, that's got to happen."

It has to be said that skipping town with only a text message in your wake is a very Bryce Brown thing to do. Whatever was playing in his head, it never seemed to be "Rocky Top." Besides the hype that inevitably comes being the No. 1-ranked prospect in the nation, the story of his recruitment last year was always less about where he wanted to go to school than the sheer weirdness of his personal situation. He is the only five-star recruit from Kansas who went on fasts, delayed his decision until months after signing day despite finishing high school early enough to have been a spring enrollee, and agreed to be fronted by an obese former rapper who at one point considered sending Brown straight to the CFL without going to college at all. (Turns out the money north of the border wasn't good enough.) His arrival in Knoxville last August was accompanied by a recruiting probe that put his eligibility at risk less than a week into practices. And because he had no personal presence whatsoever in the media (other than a press conference to announce his signing with UT, I'm not aware that Brown has given an interview or made a public statement of any variety in the last two years), there is no solid evidence that he ever really wanted to be at Tennessee or anywhere else.

Without anyone explicitly saying so, it's a good bet that Brown never wanted to leave Kansas in the first place. His older brother, Arthur, followed a similar trajectory, shipping out for two unremarkable seasons in Miami before transferring home to Kansas State in March. Bryce is likely to follow that prodigal path, if he can find the initiative and/or nerve to actually secure his release from Tennessee.

At least there's no mistaking the enthusiasm of Tauren Poole, the Vols' new, unquestioned starter at tailback in Brown's absence:

Most observers seemed to think Poole deserved to be the top backup to senior Montario Hardesy last year, but was stuck behind Brown because of a recruiting promise or at least some kind of vague, egotistical loyalty to "his guys" by then-coach Lane Kiffin. They're not going to break out the torches and pitchforks or anything, but Vol partisans are probably about as misty over Brown's departure as they were over Kiffin's in January. At this point, just wanting to be in Knoxville counts for an awful lot.

The Brown brothers have definitely been headline-makers. Bryce looked like a potential future AA at times as a freshman, he definitely has a ton of talent. Arthur was a guy everyone thought would be a beast right out of HS but he didn't do anything, maybe a change of scenery will help them both.

anyone have any bold predictions for the season? i'm not at all sold on it, but one scenario i thought of was auburn taking out alabama in that late season rivalry to steal the sec west crown from the reigning champs. they go on to play uf or scar, i suppose.

Nothing too bold. Here are my predictions for how the divisions will be like at the end of the year:

East
Florida (I don't see anyone claiming the throne)
South Carolina
Georgia
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

West
Alabama
Arkansas
Auburn
LSU
Ole Miss
Mississippi State

Ole Miss has a new offensive tackle. He's rather small, checking in at a tiny 6'11", 390 pounds.

Quote:
Four days after abruptly quitting the football program and returning to his South Carolina hometown, linebacker Dexter Morant has decided to return to Athens and play football for Georgia. Again.

This past Wednesday, Morant walked up to Mark Richt and told the head coach " he just felt like he lost the desire to play." That desire apparently returned as Morant called Richt and told the coach of his change of heart.
Good news for Georgia fans. This kid looks solid. 6'6", 230 pounds with offers from Florida, Florida State, and a host of others.
