Default Misson Statement: Click More Ads

So I've officially had my Jerry McGwire breakdown in life. I've been apart of the world wide web for nearly all of my life. As the browser evolution has taken place I've been on of the people that has been sickened by popups and talking ads. These caused me to install a browser add-on such as adblockplus or other client side ad blockers.

Recently I read an article on how to disable ads on a music streaming site. The article later broke it down that this is a great website...and how ads allowed it to be free. This got me thinking...outside of the porn industry and some of the media sites around the net...pop ups are a thing of the past. Talking ads are annoying and if I run into them on the net I tend to get away from that site asap.

Recently I started up my own site. I will leave the url out of this because this isn't a way from me to gain more revenue directly. Moreso just to pass along my thoughts and solution.

Google adsense is a program in which people who run websites can apply and get ads put on there site for a return. It is known as CPC (cost per click) and CPI (cost per impression..or cost per time it appears on the page). Even the google search on top of these forums comes from google adsense. If you search from that and find something you are looking for the webmaster gets money for it.

CPC usually is around .25 cents. Think about that. If you get lets say a small number of users...lets say 1000 views a day. and just 1% of users click 1 ad. That would be $2.50 a day in revenue.

So although adblocker programs are awesome and are more convienant. Just think about all the free content that is out there nowadays. Hell you can stream live tv you can watch almost any movie you want for free....and tv show. All these sites are free because of ads. So next time you are out browsing...click a ad if you like the site you are on. It allows for the site to get bigger and better.

I watch videos for entertainment (not that kind perv,) on a few sites and always click the ads on them for this reason. It's free, and I can quickly close them out.

I never even thought of it like that before. This really changes how I look at sites that provide a free service. After I read this, I went and made Scott Wright some money.

The thing is that good things in life aren't free. We all like reading scotts draft prospect profiles. If not for the sheer volume of people that frequent this site it wouldn't be free. Some people believe it or not do click ads. The thing about google adsense is it uses site information to post ads with similar content on those pages. So if you are on a draft site you could get a Drew Brees ad...or an ad to another Mock Draft site. Not all ads are talking ads...or pop ups anymore. It's a way to drive revenue.

I'm not saying you click every ad everywhere you see it. But lets use this as an example. I have a favorite movie site that I like to watch the latest movies at. It is free. So when I wait for the movie to queue I click a ad. It pops up a page and I close it. It took 5 seconds of my time and I helped prolong the life of the site. That is the issue.

Websites cost money to run and host. So if my 5 seconds of time helps improve the engine I'm using to make my life better or more informative I'm going to do it.

Obviously some ads are worse then others...but if it says "sponsored by google" underneath it chances are it's pretty safe.

I definitely agree with this statement. However I tend to get used to certain things. Nothing worse than having your site change to pay only or get taken off the internet.

Hell even look at tv series nowadays...how nice is it to watch a whole series from one website without having megavideo links. All you have to do is click a ad or two and know that hey I made the guy who made this possible money. I know it's a crazy thought...but I'm also the guy who buys a guy a drink after he buys me one...I know not everyone thinks that way but I just wanted to put it in perspective for some people out there and get a better understanding to people who don't understand CPC and what it means to free content.

Interesting read. I click on ads if they interest me. Or it's one of those, "alright, what the hell," moments. I sometimes click on them just to check them out.

I don't think i'd ever donate money to a website. I'd always think about it but don't know if I'd ever pull the trigger. However if a site will make money because I click an ad I don't have a problem doing it.

I agree that some ads are overkill. Full page ads that have a timer to continue or talking ads...or even popup ads for that matter all suck. But those are the thing of the past...their CPC isn't that much higher and adsense allows you to have content specific ads that will actually bring traffic because it is more likely to be clicked on.

Donating to a website is one of those "if I won the lotto, I would...." things.

The thing is is that Scott most likely realizes who his target market is and that is high school to college aged guys who most likely wouldnt have the money for a subscription to the site. He would make much more money keeping it free than he would if he made it a pay site.

I see your point, thule. I do however have an active ad blocker. I usually just allow one ad to exist and I'll even click it every now and again.

Because although they serve a purpose, they also ruin the site for a large part. They wreck the outside and some sites that seem to have some class suddenly are transformed into a porn (or, in this sites' case, workout and weight loss) platform. Which I think detracts from the site. I'm not so naïve that I believe Scott can pick and choose what commercials to run.

Anyhoo, I'll go back to clicking my one existing ad.
