Would be a terrible waste of a draft pick.

Wow, I thought the team liked Mitchell. He hasn't been great, but I also don't like the idea of cutting Huff and Mitchell.

The team has not made any announcement but we did a head count at practice and this is what we came up with.
There are 50 guys on the practice field, including injured running back Michael Bush. Add injured WR Chaz Schilens and DE Jay Richardson and that makes 52.
DT Desmond Bryant (elbow) and LB Travis Goethel (undisclosed) are both hurt, and one may have made the roster with the other going on the injured list. Rookie CB Walter McFadden was also likely stashed on the injured list.
Fullback Luke Lawton doesn't count because he has a two-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.
Coach Tom Cable will confirm the cuts after practice.
Those players not on the field:
QB Colt Brennan, FB Luke Lawton, FB Manase Tonga, WR Shaun Bodiford, WR Todd Watkins, TE John Owens, C Chris Morris, G Alex Parsons, G Brandon Rodd
DE Greyson Gunheim, DE Kellen Heard, DE Alex Daniels, DT William Joseph, DT Chris Cooper, DT Desmond Bryant, LB Travis Goethel, LB David Nixon, LB Slade Norris, CB Walter McFadden, CB Joe Porter, CB Joey Thomas, S Jerome Boyd, P Swayze Waters

Surprised a bit by Richardson getting cut. He wasn't anything special but he wasn't bad.

Thoughts: Veldheer beat out Satele for the center position which is a good thing, still expect him to be our starting LT by the end of the year. We now look thin at DE, even though guys like Wimbley, Seymour, Scott and Groves can also play DE as well as their other positions. Im really hoping for TJ houshmandzadeh will be added this weekend. If we have him I really think we have a legit shot at taking the division, with Schilens coming back somewhere down the line as well only helps.

Richardson is a good player who'll have a career in the NFL, I just think he was redundant. He was a solid anchoring left end, but Matt Shaughnessy is obviously the better player there.

Looks like we are waiting on 1 more player to be cut/traded. Now people are saying LB Thomas Howard and/or CB Chris Johnson could be next to go. Id want it to be Johnson, he looked decent at best this pre season and Routt clearly beat him out

I wonder what would happen if one of the DEs got injured.
Slide Seymour over and run with 3 DTs
or
Put Scott at DE and put Howard at LB.

I think Scott sliding in and Howard taking over is the most likely situation.

I think Q.Groves would get more playing time in place of Scott when Scott goes to DE.In the pre-season Groves has out played Howard.

Overall I am pretty happy with the final roster.
It looks like the coaching staff wanted to keep Stevie Brown and cut MM, but were overuled by AD. What I dont understand is why the hell Hiram Eugene/Chris Johnson wasnt cut over stevie brown.. CJ was getting burnt all preseason by the 2's and 3's, and Eugene didn't do anything to warrant a roster spot, and when he's in there we see far too much of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvKnXWWccR8
Our special teams play was horrid, so you can't say his presence on special teams was the overriding factor.. I hope and pray Stevie clears waivers and makes the practice squad. But if this is the biggest gripe we have, the coaching staff did a pretty good job.

At linebacker? I haven't seen that at all. Unless Groves was a force during the Seattle game (which I haven't watched), Howard has been slightly more impressive and has a much better history with the coaches and the team.

Whoa apparently Groves is going to start at weakside linebacker and Trevor Scott will be moving back to DE.

I doubt Scott starts, because there's no way he could be anything more than a situational pass rusher in our rotation. I haven't followed the preseason too closely, how has Groves looked versus the run? You'd have to assume that was a prominent factor in this decision.

From what others have been saying they say Groves has looked good vs the run and average against the pass. Ya Scott wont beat out Houston or Shaughnessy but I can see him sliding in for Scott on 3rd down and long

Called it lol. Groves has outplayed Howard and even tho it was at SLB.he has played the run good and good against the pass.He was flying around.
I had hopes that Scott could make it but he struggled against the pass bad..
