This bother anyone else? Ruins the surprise.

I agree with this. Almost every pick they did this, they won't be doing it as much after the first but I'm sure we will now for guys like Clausen and Houston.

Yeah, it's annoying knowing who will get selected before it is announced, whether that be showing the player on the phone or having to hear from La Confora who the pick will be.
They can probably stop this by not having the team call the player. Not sure why that needs to be done anyways.

Definitely takes the suspense out of seeing the Commisioner walk up to the podium and hanging on his every word when your team picks.
Networks are just trying to one-up each other IMO.

It does get better in the later rounds it seems even the talking heads are waiting to hear who the pick is.

Id rather then change talking about QB's the whole time while there are other better prospects being picked

I definitely agree. Takes away a lot of the suspense of the draft.
SPOILERZ ALERT

One of my pet peeves about draft coverage is that while they always show the prospects on the phone leading up to the pick before it's actually made in the early rounds, in the later rounds they won't even bother to announce picks as they're actually being made at the podium.
What's up with that?

It is horrible. I miss the days of sitting with my buddies and waiting anxiously for the commish to say the name. This phone crap kills it. Definitely the worst thing to happen to the draft in recent times.

I rather see the player on the phone and excited rather than Jason La Canfora and Adam Schefter coming in and telling us who the pick will be. Also I rather see it than Chris Berman tipping the pick which he did this year like always.

I liked listening on Sirius radio. They gave opinions on who the pick should be, but didn't give name away before it was announced.

Yeah it kills the suspense.
Also when they ask Schefter or other insiders about the pick they also give it away.

In the 2009 draft, when the Titans were picking, they showed Beanie Wells on the phone when the Titans were picking and it pissed me off so bad. We ended up taking Britt though so it's all good.

This crap definitely needs to stop as does the announcing of picks before they're made by the various draft insiders. I don't mind speculation as to who the pick will be but spoiling the pick ruins half the fun of watching it. Think of how much more shocking it would be hearing the commish say "Tyson Alualu" instead of hearing it from Mayock.

Awful. I dont know why this hasnt been done away with, at least until after the pick is made. The majority of us, dont want the pick spoiled. If it's not them cutting to the phone shot, it's Berman and his god damn ear piece spoiling the pick. Two seconds before the pick is made, someone whispers in Boomer's fat ear, and he throws out something like..."You know what Mel? I disagree, I think the Chiefs are going to go in another direction here, and take a safety." He tries to sound all smart, but really he's just a dumb ass. And talk about zero chemistry among that crew they threw out there, and Berman offers absolutely nothing...he also seems to be getting grumpier and grumpier as he ages. Get him out of there. The third day group was much bette,r and they had two ESPN personalities in there that I cant stand, in Mcshay and Jaws. That means the first group, was god awful through my eyes.
The draft could use many improvements still. The draft coverage is a joke...will they ever actually focus on more indivisual players? ESPN talks about bull **** and misses like 12 picks in a row and then just "sums it up" in about 30 seconds.
Commercials. How about some variety? Both ESPN and NFL Network have to go to commercial an insane amount of times. And we saw the same 5 commercials, air over and over again. The same can be said, about the music they use during transitions. The same song every time, its just gets tiresome. I dont really understand why they couldnt change it up a little bit. The draft is a freaking marathon, you're boring your fans to death with these things.
I mentioned it several times that the ticker on the bottom of the screen kept disappearing on ESPN. That should never leave the screen. And when it wasnt leaving the screen, it was re-setting to the 1st round all the time, and then re-setting again when a pick was made. It should be like it used to be, and just stay on the current round. You can see previous picks to the right of the screen. You shouldn't have to go through some 150 picks to see the last guy selected. It was just really weird this year and terribly inconsistent.
Showing the players dancing with a football instead of actually breaking down some footage of the player? Awesome. Fantastic idea. Honestly, what the hell was the point of having them do that? It looked ridiculous and cheesy.
Mel Kiper was barely used throughout the draft. Another brilliant move. Let's keep listening to what Steve Young has to say, please. I mean really, Kiper really only has this one week out of the year and they didnt use him.
There are many more, but I cant really think right now.

blame the head coaches or GMs that have long as conversations with them. Problem would be remedied if they just say:
GM: hello Sam?
Bradford: Yes
GM: it's Bill Devaney, we want you at St Louis
Bradford: sweet
GM: see you on Monday

Thinking back i think when the Dolphins were 'supposed' to take Quinn as everyone predicted, he wasn't on his phone. For me a better kind of a spoiler.

I don't mind a little bit of it as hey if it gets leaked right before the pick then it gets leaked. But with 90% of the picks Berman knows who the pick is, I used to think it was nice since I didn't have to wait but anymore I just wish they would let us wait until Goodell announces the pick.
Some of the phone calls aren't shown but the ones that are should be left until after the pick has been made. But at the same time remember back with the Willis McGahee phone call move by Drew Rosenhaus? Would that have worked if ESPN hadn't cut to their camera there? It may not have and then all you would have seen is nothing special. So ya sometimes the phone calls give things away but other times it is pretty fun to guess wether they are on the phone witht he team that is up, the team that is next, or some random friend who happened to forget it was draft day.
MOTH said something about how Kiper was underused on ESPN, I am getting to the point of wishing Kiper would just start his own channel, they talk all day about any Quarterback chosen in the late rounds because Jaws knows so much about them..........But every time they miss 10 or 15 picks and are only able to analyze one of them is ridiculous. I mean if I got drafted in the 7th round out of some college that no one thought I was going to be drafted I would sure as heck want to be talked about.
I know some here dislike him but he is one of the best parts of the draft for me. He knows so much and has made the draft what it is, I feel like if he had the draft channel to himself that we could have 365 days a year with nothing but draft talk for all of us Draft geeks. No Kiper wouldn't be on all the time but even if ESPN made it ESPNDRAFT or something like that then they could have multiple people that actually make sense about what they are talking about. Heck I would settle for them putting McShay on it if it ment that it would make the draft last longer.
Not sure about some of you but they have too many people that don't know what they are talking about, I actually like the arguments between Todd and Mel, it keeps it showing that there are different opinions about people even by the guys in the "know".
