Yeah I was ecstatic that the Chiefs picked him. He was my 2nd favorite Alabama player behind McClain so I think it is fantastic that he is a Chief. I hope the Chiefs can go after a few more Bama players in the future.

I too like Arenas. I just seemed like he always was making a game changing play in some capacity every week. I was a bit suprised by a CB when we grabbed him, but if we had to take one there I'm glad it was him. I remember when Flowers was considered a first rounder until his timed speed didn't check out, I look at Arenas the same way. They both play fast on the field and should play better than their draft positions.

Obviously, Arenas will have a huge impact on special teams. He was one of the best punt returnmen in college football history. Not just 2009, but ever. He set the record for punt return TDs (7) in the SEC. He is 2nd all-time in NCAA in punt return yardage. He was awarded the 2008 Punt Returner Trophy by the CFPA. Punt returning was one of the Chiefs biggest weaknesses last year. No matter who they put back there, it wasn't good. Fumbles, fair catches when their was room to run or getting blasted after a couple yards when it should have been fair caught was all to common for the '09 Chiefs. Not any more.
I think Arenas' real value will be on defense. I am of the belief that a defense should be aggresive rather than passive. I want an attacking defense and Arenas is an attacking CB. He plays the slot so well. At 'Bama, they asked him to blitz and create havoc behind the line of scrimage. He did that better than any CB I can ever recall. In 2 seasons starting at CB, he had 128 total tackles, 15 TFL, 7 Sacks and 7 INTs. When has a CB been so active behind the LOS? 15 TFL and 7 Sacks is good for a LB. It's almost unheard of for a CB. His ability to create confusion behind the LOS will make him a valuable player in our defense. Even as a nickle, his impact will be felt and make the other players around him alot better.

The pick, to me, is still just okay. We needed a competent second/nickle corner, and we definitely needed a KR/PR who could get it done, but I'm still wary.
I'd love for this pick to work out though, so hopefully he can come in right away and make a contribution from day one.

For someone who watched every alabama game and lives in SECOND country unfortunately... I think u read into his stats way to much...yeah he was good in certain games but most of his plays were affected to by how great a a whole the Tides defense was...that won't be the case as of right now. But he is a piece to the puzzle I think he will be a project player personally...

I don't hate the pick but like vidae said it's not what I would have done, I would have took a LB or NT which is/was a bigger need.
I don't like to play the size card but with CB's you kinda have to, even Flowers as good as he is has trouble with taller WR's I don't see JA being any different.

He has heard that for quite some time. I'm sure he uses that for motivation. I don't care about height or weight. If he can play, let's get him on the field. Beggers can't be choosers and we're beggin for some talent and wins. Hopefully, he can bring both to KC.

You're right, beggars can't be choosers, but seeing as how it's the draft, we're CHOOSERS first, not beggars.
We could have CHOSEN a corner who was a little taller than 5'8, because it DOES matter, and we could have CHOSEN to draft a position of bigger need, but we didn't.

I don't care about size much either but at CB it comes in to play alot, it doesn't matter how motivated he is he can't out jump a 6'5 Vincent Jackson.

I honestly don't see Javier being anymore than a nickel corner. He was drafted for his special teams ability Period.
The guy helps our pass rush, special teams and upgrades our nickel corner position...so
Let the man the blitz, cover the occasional slot reciever and have him take some kickoffs to the house. That makes that pick worth it to me.

5'8'' is much less important if his arms are longer, i dont have those numbers, but just saying.

Nowadays, the nickel corner spot is more important than ever. Haley said he was one of the best blitzing cb's coming out, and he is a terrific returner, and played on a championship 3-4 defense.
This is a need pick. While people may not agree with the pick, he will play several positions on the roster.
We have many needs, we cannot get them all in one draft. Why would we pick a NT or LB we are not comfortable with just to fill a position?

When you put it that way, there was no one the Chiefs could have drafted that would have been worth the trade.

... who was 33 and disgruntled. Trading away Tony G has zero imput on this selection. Tony is in the HoF and Arenas hasn't even taken a snap. It is an unfair comparison of their careers.
I have never said that Arenas will become the greatest CB in the league. I haven't even said he will be good. What I have said is that his talent and skill set add another deminsion to this defense and I don't think hieght plays a factor. If it did, would Pioli have made the pick and been so pleased with it? This draft was the first draft that Pioli had HIS scouts in place for the draft. Everyone involved with the selection seems very pleased. That doesn't mean he will be great. It means people who evaluate talent for a living feel he could be great one day.
