A new post from PBC on the above link. If true, EFF ESPN even more. I hate them.

Quote:
ESPN attorneys have already contacted the Big Ten regarding the content of this post. Again, I am in no way affiliated with the Big Ten conference nor should anything I write be considered credible in any context.

However, ESPN has unfairly used its bully pulpit to influence Texas stakeholders to prefer the PAC. The Big Ten feels that if the current trend of reporting that Texas only has interest in the PAC 12 continues, this would merit a major legal action against ESPN.

ESPN hates the Big Ten. Everyone knows that.

But how awesome would it be to add Texas and Notre Dame to the Big Ten? Two more great schools with awesome football and academics and incredible fan bases and traditions.

I love it.

They'd have 4 of the top 5 winningest programs of all time (from a % standpoint) along with 6 of the top 10. That would be sweet.

Doubt if it happens. ESPN would spend tens of millions in short term losses to keep UT from the B1G. They do not want to see the Big Ten Network succeed at a national level. ND and UT would give the BTN that ammo.

Pretty nasty stuff when the media is directly involved in manipulating conference affiliations. ESPN is evil.

Fox Sports, owned by Rupert Murdoch, isn't exactly the Red Cross either.

Lets not act like ones better than the other. They both have the same goals, get as rich as possible. Just like every other business.

If Texas and Notre Dams decide to pull this off, ESPN can't stop them anyway.

Some businesses have ethics and make money, but Walt Disney Co. and News Corp. are not among them.

I still have a feeling that Texas winds up in the PAC12 w/ OU, OSU, and Texas Tech as a tag-a-long. Notre Dame eventually going to the Big Ten is something I completely expect.

But who knows what will happen. It would be extremely strange seeing Texas in the Big Ten though.

Just heard that OU in a B12 conference call asked (like A&M did a few weeks ago) about the process of leaving the conference (no mention of OSU) per DavidSmoak (a radio guy out of Waco)

"Big 12 source also telling me OU’s Board of Regents has requested an evaluation on their options involving any possible movement….
Big 12 source also told me there will be another conference call, but that could be dependent on the time-line with OU’s evaluation."

Also hearing from ESPN Austin that the SEC is working on securing a spot for those not included in the SEC (A&M and Mizzou) or PAC16 (OU, OSU, UT, TT) in the Big East (Baylor, KU, KSt, and ISU). The SEC would agree not to poach schools from the Big East (WV) or ACC (which would cause them to poach from the BE). The lynch pin of this deal is Texas joining the PAC16 which is less than certain to say the least.

From a conference realignment message board I visit.

We'll see. I doubt Delany is going to let ND and/or UT slip away easily. If those two schools are added, the members are looking at $30M per school in TV revenue. That's something UT and ND wouldn't feel bad about sharing equally in.

ESPN isn't letting any of their puppets mention UT to anyone but the Pac12. Freaking criminal.

Just looking out for their own interest. They have an agenda.

No one else official has reported it either, you'd think Fox Sports would be all over it if it was some huge coverup.

While Oklahoma's academics are relatively poor, I bet if OU didn't have to bring along Okie State, the B1G might consider it.

Just read an article about the ACC increasing their buyout in preparation for the SEC trying to steal their teams. Instead of just waiting for other conferences to raid their teams, why isn't the ACC being proactive and going after West Virginia-USF-UCF?

Because they don't want any of those programs. West Virginia is barely a college, and USF and UCF have about 10 fans between them.

USF is a huge school if what I heard on TV is correct with around a 40,000 student body.

UCF is a big school too, but that doesn't mean they have fans. Not everyone that goes to college gives a **** about their sports teams, and UCF and USF are perfect examples. USF plays in the Bucs stadium across town.

Second largest student body in the nation behind Arizona State.

UCF has a ton of money. They just built a new stadium. They have tens of thousands of alumni within a three hour radius. And they are pretty good at filling their stadium. Sure, when they play Memphis and Charleston Southern there are empty seats. But in their big games (Texas, C-USA Championship, Boston College to name a few) the stadium is filled beyond capacity. They are an up and coming athletic program. Probably the Bosie State of the East. The ACC would be wise to give them a shot.

So Pitt and Syracuse have supposedly applied for ACC membership after the ACC reached out to more than ten schools. That might be the nail in the coffin for the Big East if it happens.

So people show up for the important games but don't give a **** otherwise.

The absolute #1 reason why the big conferences don't care about USF and UCF is that they don't have a fanbase or an alumni that cares about their sports teams. Otherwise, who wouldn't want to get a better footprint in the most important recruiting state in the country?

The ACC has also upped their exit fees from $10-13 million to $20 million effective immediately.

The ACC move obviously makes a ton of sense for Pitt and Syracuse. The Big East simply isn't sustainable as a football conference, at least not relative to its BCS competitors.

For the ACC, I think it's a B- move. Neither team is a no-brainer by any stretch of the imagination, but they bring some decent markets with them. It does help the ACC bring Boston College more into the conference, and if they're going to 16 teams it was inevitable they'd have to take some Big East teams.

As Big Ten fan, if we would have added Syracuse or Pitt, I wouldn't have liked it, but I wouldn't have hated it either.

I'm happy about more Northeast schools being added to the ACC. One of the biggest problems here football wise is that the only viable schools in the region are split up. This helps with that a little bit.

Wonder what happens to the rest of the Big East now should the ACC accept Syracuse/Pitt. That's a really big blow for them. Sucks pretty hard for schools like Rutgers and UConn.

Yeah I'm starting to get nervous now that we're going to be left out in the dark.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a program like UConn basketball be profitable to bring it with to ACC if the Big East loses Pitt and Syracuse?

I've been reading mixed things both ways about UConn as a viable addition. Similar profile on paper to Syracuse. Boston College is supposedly not OK with it at all though, which sort of sucks.
