I'm sure he'd be worth a 1st round pick for some team, but not a young team like the Panthers. You get Luck for at least 6-7 more years, you take Luck.
|
And set back your ability to win a SB for at least a few years since we'd have to start him. It's not that serious I don't think. Romo might not be a top 5 QB but he's capable of leading this offense at a very high level that we'd have to be lucky to get to. Trading that for a rookie + a top 10 pick would be silly.
It's not gonna happen anyway so no need in even discussing it.

I think Romo could be a top 5 guy if he had a line that could protect. That line has been dreadful on and off for years, and needs to be addressed in the offseason.

Brandon Harris just declared. He's a possibility now too.

It's a possibility if you move back. Just gives you more options is all.
Prince and Peterson are both gone before 9 I think. So if Dallas really wants them, they have to pony up for em.

I don't think so. I think Prince will be there for the taking.
But, I don't know if CB is the way to go anyway. Sure it will help the team, but I really don't think that was the problem. I think it was safety play and the lack of pass rush.
Because think about it. Newman is staying. So where is the #9 overall pick gonna play? I don't know if he would be able to unseat any of the top 3 right away. Your gonna have the 9th overall pick as your 4th corner?
I wouldn't mind it at all, and I love both of them, just some food for thought.

Unless......
What if they try to kill to bird's with one stone? Prince at #9, and move Newman to FS.
I never thought of that.

Scandrick is not awful, but I am pretty confident Prince would unseat him as the #3 guy.

Prince wouldn't be our 4th CB here, with the way Jenkins and Newman played last year he'd be playing to be the #1 guy. Newman is so bad it's not even funny, he got beat on a double move Sunday but some dude I had never even heard of before, and he gets slower every season.
He'd instantly go down to the slot to battle with Scandrick for that role. Jenkins and Prince would be outside. We go Nickle D probably 90% of the time anyway, it's rare we just have two CB's on the field at once. I have faith Scandrick can bounce back and Jenkins also, but Newman is falling off way too hard and the few plays he makes doesn't make up for that.

Newman's numbers looked respectable this year. Was he that bad and just got lucky?

He still makes plays on the ball when it's in his area, but he NEEDS safety help. He'll get beat 1 on 1 by any speed WR in the league, and no matter which WR he covers vs the Giants or Eagles he'll get beat unless we have a great deep center FS next season.
He's just not reliable, he's been getting beat for awhile now, I remember the game vs Pitt a few years ago we had won and Holmes beat him over the top late in the game. Stuff like that has been happening more and more every season, if a QB really wanted to pick on Newman he'd get ate alive. You can do alot worse with him as a #3 guy, but if he's starting for us our pass rush has to be alot better to make him look good.

LL I think your hating too much. I think Newman had the best year out of our CB's, and I think he should be back. He is a solid player, and we need his veteran leadership.

thule has been saying it, and I don't know the real possibility of it, but if Prince can project to Safety, then he's got a job from Day 1.
That said, I'm less optimistic than the rest of this board when it comes to thinking that Prince is going to be there at 9.
But... I've been a fan of Brandon Harris all year. He may have less hype/flash, but I definitely like his substance.

And what is that saying with the type of season Jenkins and Scandrick had? I'm not "hating", I hate that word anyway. Nobody is a hater if they don't think somebody played well, and I don't think Newman played well this season what so ever. I never said he shouldn't be back, or that we didn't need his veteran leadership either.
I said he should be our 3rd CB, and if he's 1 of our top 2 we should expect to get burned repeatedly. It has nothing to do with hating on him.
I also don't know what's our fascination with moving CB's to Safety so much here, but Prince isn't going to be playing Safety. Drafting him in the top 10 to play a position he doesn't even project to very well? Yea, no thanks. There is some very good safety value in the early part of the 2nd round if we improve our pass rush or grab another starting caliber CB.

To D-Unit and all other with this moving to safety crap, STOP.
Prince and Peterson are CORNERS, and damn good ones. You don't take one in the top 10 and use them as an experiment. If it fails, you just blew a top 10 pick and ****** your franchise over.
If your talking about a veteran cornerback thats one thing, but CB prospects are not safeties. Thank you cause it's pissing me off.

I totally agree but alot of Newman's and Jenkins problems last year we magnified by the fact that there still needs to be an upgrade at both safety positions. Too many times this season were the corners lined up 5-10 yards off the recievers to compensate for the lack of help over the top. Also, the front seven weren't as effective pressuring the QB's. The defense only accumulated 36 sacks all season compared to the 42 sacks a year ago and the 59 sacks in 2008.

What do you mean "if it fails..."?
Why couldn't you just put so-called "damn good corners" back at corner?
Reason why both are suggested safeties are because questions about speed, combined with both of their physical type games/body types.

They both run in the 4.4s, peterson may be in the 4.3s. I just think it's stupid. If we want a coverage safety get Rahim Moore in the 2nd. Peterson and Prince are cornerbacks.
Also, DeMarcus Love looks shaky tonight. I don't really want a part of him.
