We should just put all WRs in bubble wrap until the season starts.

LOLz, it from not being able train as hard in the OTA, and all the soft TC practices.

might as well go back to two a days, fully padded.

And stop threatening HGH testing. Just let them go back on that stuff. Player safety and all.

Ironically, Bart Scott eluded to that last year. He was saying that he trains hard in the OTAs independently of the team activities bc you need to get your body ready for football, and also predicted that the new CBA was going to lead to more injuries.

Don't know if there's any merit to that, but it was interesting to hear from a player.

I actually seriously question how much that plays a role in this honestly. HGH is so widespread in the NFL, it's ridiculous.

Agree with this(with nothing to back it up). I am curious though to see if the amount of season ending injuries are increasing ever since the change in practice habits due to the new CBA agreement

Furthermore, whoever invents a way/brace or something that can help minimize the possibility of a torn ACL or any other tear in the knee....without affecting the players mobility/speed, will end up a very, veeeeery rich man

SWDC engineers GO!!1

we have enough of them to create something, and a few are very smart, BBD to project manage, and me to just tag along.

HGH used to prevent injuries, start blood testing see like 65% come back positive.

I thought something was happening with that in the NFL, where they would set a threshold, there can be only a certain amount of it in your body.

I don't know, they were talking about anonymous blood testing, to start.

I'll do you one even better. What if we genetically engineer an ACL out of a material that won't ever tear? Like a plastic ACL reinforced with carbon fiber or some ****? (that clearly won't work but I'm just saying)

Let that one sink in.

blah on plastic, titanium fiber ACL. We need maximum strength, with unlimited flexibility. If I twist your knee in a vice, it'll hurt, but your ACL/MCL will be fine.

Let's just inject ACL stem cells into their knees every week to repair whatever is in there before they go out for practice. Boom. Super knee.

I'm pretty sure Kobe did this to his knee and is now doing this to his Achilles.

http://illumin.usc.edu/printer/13/bi...g-spider-silk/

The Future of Spider Silk
The future of spider silk will largely be determined by how it will be used in different practical applications. For example, if we would like to make a bulletproof vest out of spider silk, the tendency for spider silk to stretch when hit with a flying object would not be a good fit; for this application, we would need a material that mimics the strength of spider silk to stop the bullet but has properties to improve its strength. Lee et al. (2009) found that depositing layers of metal onto spider silk fibers yields a material that is significantly stronger and more break-resistant [6]. They used a method called atomic layer deposition (ALD) to coat the fibers with different metals and tested its toughness.

They found that titanium deposition increases toughness tenfold, aluminum deposition by ninefold, and zinc deposition by fivefold. This breakthrough in improving the mechanical properties of spider silk paves a new potential application for this material in artificial fibers and tendons that is much stronger than conventional artificial ligaments.

Kaplan and researchers at Tufts' school of Engineering and Medicine have developed a method of bioengineering artificial anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs) using spider silk as a scaffold for cell growth (Spiders). As a tougher material with greater break-resistance, spider silk holds the potential to become a common scaffold for tissue [7].

http://www.popularmechanics.com/scie...wers-6#slide-6

For years, scientists have been trying to tap into the power of spider silk, one of nature’s most amazing materials, but they’ve struggled to produce mass quantities. Now, a research team may have invented a way to produce the stuff in large amounts. Here’s what they want to do with it.

Elastic Ligaments
Although you can walk off a sprained ankle, more severe tears (such as a torn anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL) require surgery that replaces the ligament with tendons sliced from another part of the body. Lewis thinks spider silk can offer another solution. "We can make something that mimics the size, shape, and elasticity [of a ligament] without any trouble at all," he says. In the coming months, his research group hopes to spin spider silk proteins from goats’ milk into artificial ligaments. If biocompatibility and animal trials succeed, Lewis hopes to test them on humans in a few years.

Spider web silk, the strongest natural fiber known, could possess untapped medical potential in artificial tendons or for regenerating ligaments, scientists now say.

A body of folklore dating back at least 2,000 years tells of the potential medical value of spider webs in fighting infections, stemming bleeding and healing wounds, explained molecular biologist Randolph Lewis at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.

Dwyane Allen, Colts standout 2nd year TE, has a foot injury.
Tests underway.... this is where/how Cedric Benson's season ended last year: Sore foot, checked out...... turned out to be the Linsfranc thing.....

Luck loves Allen, watch out here.....

He's a good one.
Hillis I hear hurt his knee too, but have no idea if it was a bang up or a tear of something.

They gotta redesign the ACL.

I saw the hit on Hillis, CB went low for the knee rather than try to tackle him. Not sure if it is a sprain, minor injury or what.

Burress might be done for the year. Maybe this closes the book on his NFL career too.

Quote:
For the first time in five years, Plaxico Burress has had a full offseason with a team to prepare for the campaign to come. This year, he could be done before even the first preseason game.

Per a league source, Burress has a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder. The injury happened Thursday after Burress hit the ground hard while trying to make a catch.

Burress, who turns 36 on Monday, spent most of 2012 looking for a job before signing late in the year with the Steelers, the team that made him a first-round draft choice in 2000. He re-signed with the Steelers for another year, and he was expected to serve as a large target for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, especially in the red zone.

For now, it’s feared that the injury could end Plaxico’s season. No final decision has been made as to whether he’ll potentially return.

The Steelers, who lost Mike Wallace in free agency, could look outside the organization for help at the position.

Not sure if it is a sprain, minor injury or what.

Report: Peyton Hillis's knee injury not considered serious

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer
August 9, 2013 12:00 pm ET

Buccaneers running backs Peyton Hillis and Brian Leonard are competing for a backup job behind second-year starter Doug Martin, and both got their opportunities in the Tampa Bay preseason loss to the Ravens on Thursday night.

While Leonard did some nice work, rushing six times for 23 yards and a touchdown, Hillis' night ended after just four carries following a helmet to the knee by Ravens cornerback Asa Jackson that knocked Hillis out of the game.

Reportedly, though, his injury isn't serious as Bucs insider Jenna Laine reports that the diagnosis is a hyperextended knee that shouldn't keep Hillis out for long.
