So if you don't buy the game it'll magically get better? It's not going to get better until there is competition with other football games on the market and not a monopoly. I'm one of the people who do enjoy Madden, I thought NCAA last year was one of the worst football games I had ever played so I didn't buy it this year, it's pretty simple. I'm not one of the people who complain about it year round, buy it, then complain again.
I know alot of people don't like it, those are the ones who shouldn't buy it. I still do enjoy it so I have no problem spending the money on it.

I may be in the vast minority but I actually like those modes but they seem to keep getting worse. I like Madden and Ncaa a lot but I just don't see the point in upgrading for me. In a bunch of game modes it seems like they just take steps backwards for some reason and delete good parts.

Josh Looman( the lead developer for Head Coach 08 ) is on the MAdden team now, but they really haven't let him touch the franchise mode.
From what he's said, the engine they use for the Franchise is basically broken and at its max capacity(IE, they can't even fix minor things like getting a new roster spot when you use the IR).
It would take more than a single year to revamp it, and supposedly(we'll see) they only minorly tweaked the franchise so that they could focus on it for Madden 12, the year of the franchise.
We'll see if they follow through, if he's allowed to get as deep as it did on head coach, with NCAA rosters and such, I'll be happy.
Basically, this whole gen's game engines are faulty and need to be redone, but it's really hard to do that in one year, so they keep putting it off and putting bandaids on a broken leg.
It's a shame that I'm torn on whether or not to buy a Madden with a Saints player on the cover. I'll probably get it used online in like a week.
For those that don't play head coach, here are some things you'd love if you like the franchise mode, and might see if Josh Looman gets to revamp it for 2012, instead of being forced to make minor fixes:
*Huge roster to start the preaseason(80+?) and you make cuts each week*
*53 man roster that you must make a 46 player game day roster
*Progression is based on how often a player uses a skill. If your stiff arm rating is 56, you'll see on the progression rating "56" and the progress bar like "55/500" and every time it is used, it will increase that 55, and when it reaches 500, your players stiff arm rating in this example will increase to 57.
*The Learning rating. PLayers have an attribute for how well they learn plays. If you have a huge play book with complex concepts, some guys might never be able to pick it up, and this system rewards keeping the same players around that are familiar with your system.
*College players all have a back story in this game and teh season, the heisman race, their personal life, etc is all talked about all season long and throughout the draft. I prefer my own NCAA rosters, but this is still awesome for a changeup.
*Full coaching staff. Instead of just having the two coordinators and special teams, you get a full staff. QB coach, HB, WR, OL, DL, LB, DB, head trainer, GM.
*The coaches all can progress in fields you want to, and gain progression points based on performance of their group. Your RB just shatter the 200 yard mark? your RB coach is going to reap the benefits big time.
*The systems for bidding on free agents, signing your own players, and bidding on coaches/GMs is different. Sort of hard to explain, but you kind of have to fight for them and will probably lose out a lot, so you can't just get whoever you want, whenever.
*The trade system is way different. You can put guys on the block, and other teams will call up with offers. If you want a certain guy, you have to hope the team will even consider trading them(guys like Brady and Manning are probably not even going to be considered), and if they consider it, they'll give you a big list of things they will consider, the top being the least likely, to the bottom, which they will almost assuredly take, and they'll pick one of the packages out of the middle(can be a mix of players and picks). You have to find balance in their, and some coaches are just hard to deal with(Shanahan never budges, but I rip Rod Marinelli a new asshole almost weekly).
*Future picks can be traded
*Player ratings show based on your philosophy. If you have Speed back as your RB philosophy, you'll see the faster guys with higher ratings. Some guys like Peterson are basically highly rated no matter what.
*The Pistol, college spread, wishbone, option offense, and other college offenses have premade playbooks in there. :D
That's the things I can think of off the top of my head.
It wasn't a popular game all around, but I assume it would be really popular around here. For 10 bucks, it's worth a pick up.
One major thing that needs fixing though is the inability to edit player ratings. That always bugs me, since EA sucks at evaluating players.

See the problem with fully trying to incorporate Head Coach into franchise mode in Madden, is that not everyone that buys Madden wants an experience that in depth. I think a majority of us here would love it, but the facts are there are a ton of people who buy Madden of all ages who probably would think that would be way too tedious, I think they are trying to find a common middle ground.
I think stuff like trading future picks, and getting offers each week for players should be easy stuff to add and makes way too much sense, but HC was too extensive for the common players and/or younger crowd who still want to enjoy franchise mode. I'm just guessing though.
There are definately way too many things not being included, aside from the few I mentioned and most that Saints-Tigers included, why aren't there holdouts anymore? You shouldn't be able to draft a player in the 7th round who makes 400k for 7 years but has been making the pro bowl consistently. They used to have guys holding out until they got a bigger contract.
I also liked the idea where when you put certain players on the block teams would throw offers at you, and you could ask for more, or pick a different offer, and they could rescind all offers if you ask for 2 much.
I think he's upgraded the overall franchise mode since he took over, but seeing as how that is obviously the primary game mode for most people, way too many features are lacking that are obvious.
Training Camp also NEEDS to be brought back.

thing is, there used to be a shut off for owner mode. If you want to play a vanilla season mode, switch it off, and it turns off most of those functions like it used to.
Thing is though, most aren't playing for franchise anymore, thats why online play gets all the updates. "OMG, HIS TOWEL DOESNT WAVE RIGHT" Thats the problem with madden now, that's what people are worried about.
Training camp needs to be retooled though. Running the 40 and stuff this gen was dumb, and last gen, it was so easy to get an all madden rating you could make any speed back into a devastating tackle breaker in a year or two.

Yep. Some of the drills were pretty fun though. As a CB it's fun to line up against a WR man to man across the field, practice your jam, off man coverage, breaking on the ball. Then again it was fun as hell when you played deep secondary and had to break on the ball shooting out of a jugs machine and swatting or picking it off infront of the fake defenders. It be nice to have a choice of the type of drill you want to run, and each drill may work on increasing certain attributes, just not too fast.
Maybe they could find a way to do that for TC mode, and you aren't able to increase points that make your player too good, such as catching, break tackles, things that can end up making a player way better then he should be.
Increasing man coverage, reaction time, route running for WR's, I think TC could be incorporated back in and have it work. I also like the idea of switching on and off franchise/owner mode so you could choose how in depth it really was. Then again, most of this stuff makes too much sense. But at least we have SWAGGER RATING!!!11!1!

I actually bought the Madden/HC bundle. Never got into either. All this stuff sounds amazing and if it were in Madden I'd buy fast, but I just hated the AI controlling every move and lobbing every pass. I loved the first HC where you could tell your QB to bullet it, you could tell your RB to stop dancing.

EA's exclusive rights **** shouldn't even be legal. I hope their entire industry burns down, and not in a figurative way.

Bring back ESPN NFL 2K5.

That was the excuse they used at the end of the ps2 era. They said that when next gen systems came out they would be able to fix all the problems and the game wouldn't be limited anymore. Well, 6 years later I'm still waiting.

oh and for those who were talking about that head coach game: it sounds pretty good. is it worth the buy, like a good realistic football game? or is it just similar to madden trash. trying to decide whether or not to put my 2k5 down for a minute and give something else a chance to take my heart.

You can pick it up for 10 bucks at best buy or Wal Mart, it's well worth it.
To be honest, I rarely even touch the in game mode when I play it.

think it just determines if the guy does a bunch of celebrating after scoring a touchdown or just goes to the sideline.
