I'd nominate Alex Barron for the offensive line. Him or Loadofshit I mean Loadholt.

Forget Orakpo, it's not like they didn't really need a LT and Oher made a ton of sense. Much more important position, and all the other LT's were gone at that point. They missed out on a ton of great players with that pick, and that's probably why they are still winless and the team with the least amount of talent on it right now.

At least they got to get excited about TO briefly :-/

Sounds like Manny Lawson. He's turning into a solid starter only now.

Still too early in my book to write off Maybin as a pro. He's in his 2nd(!!) year with the Bills, and is barely 22 yrsold.
That weight he put on before the draft was bulk, not core strength - bet he still couldn't bench 325# at 250lbs.
If Maybin can actually become stronger and learn pass rush technique, he might pan out.
He smells bust-y, though. But it would be an even worse mistake for the Bills to junk Maybin at this point, instead of doubling down and working to develop the guy into a starter.
In college his quickness was sick, but again, most WRs would look like they had a nasty first step if you had them rushing off the edge, which doesn't make them DEs or OLBs.

Yeah, but most of us on this site were somehow right about him. I recall most of us laughing our asses off at that pick. Personally, I thought someone would take him in the second round and that they'd be reaching. The guy had the body of a stacked safety.

The Buffalo Bills: one of many teams too stupid to take Michael Oher.

I feel bad for Bills fans though.

But just think, he was way more highly touted as a 3-4 OLB than Clay Matthews was.

Interesting article.

I was attending penn state at the same time as Maybin, hindsight is twenty twenty but i allways felt that this guy was being picked way too high and would be a bust for the bills. As redshirt soph he came out of no where because no one was game planning for him and he used his speed to make of advantage of slow plodding big ten tackles. Maybin was really smart to come out when he did because if he would have come back for his junior year he would have been exposed similar to George Selvie. He really had no pass rush moves he would just run in the backfield un touched and he didn't play with much physicality, plus when he went to the combine he didn't flash as a rare athlete. I thought at best Maybin could be a decent pass rush specialist on third down but he can't even seem to do that. Have the bills tried to use him in this capacity?

I'm sure they've tried everything they can think of. Making a high round pick a healthy scratch is usually a last resort. Zero career sacks will cause that kind of thing to happen.

I love the George Selvie comparison. Not to say that as a player they are really close to eachother, but Selvie was constantly in the top 15 picks of mock drafts when his stock was at it's peak, sometimes top 10. As people realized what he actually was and got more film on him he plummeted to the end of the draft instead of being a top 10 bust.

*shrug* he really needs to grow up and get his **** together. With his first step at 230 he could be a monster pass rusher like Aaron Schobel or Robert Mathis. He's got to learn to play strong even without the bulk that just slows him down. There's still a lot of potential and I do think that a 3-4 would be a better fit for him than a 4-3, but for he hasn't shown any progress and that speaks to a lack of maturity and focus.

For a bargain price (or player), I'd like to see what Kevin Greene and Dom Capers can do with him learning the ropes at OLB ala Clay Matthews.

If the Bills are turning back to a 43 defense, why not just make Maybin a WILL? He's obviously not working at DE right and and he's neither big enough or functionally strong enough to handle playing the line.

Kevin Greene is really earning himself a reputation as one of the best OLB coaches in the NFL. He's the mad scientist behind the CM3 experiment, and I'd love to see what he could do with Vernon Gholston and Maybin.
Kevin Greene is one of the few HOF type players who is actually able to teach other LBs all the nasty tricks and pass-rush techniques he used as a player.

With Maybin, it's just too early to call him a 'bust', but he is driving down that dead-end street, IMO.

It's not just Matthews either. He (along with Dom Capers' scheme) has made decent players out of 7th round pick Brad Jones and UDFA Frank Zombo. Neither are great, but they have been serviceable in our defense.

Not sure if he could be a defensive coordinator, or if he would even want to, but he's a hell of a coach.

Can't let a worst player in the NFL thread go by without any mention of Frank Walker. I don't know how he's been in Minnesota but man he was terrible in Baltimore.

With Maybin, it's just too early to call him a 'bust', but he is driving down that dead-end street, IMO.
I agree it's too early but he has made a lot of mistakes.

Is Mark Roman under contract anywhere? Might as well throw his name in the hat.

As people realized what he actually was and got more film on him he plummeted to the end of the draft instead of being a top 10 bust.
Don't forget that his production, especially in his sophomore year, was out of this world. His biggest mistake was he made such a huge effort to put on weight that he lost his burst off the edge.
