Yeah Shanny got outcoached. And he's an arrogant tool. But hey Washington, you make your bed, you sleep in it.

I still think Shanahan + Allen putting together some institutional control for the Skins is better than the Vinny + coach X + Snyder regime. Long term, they have a better chance to have sustained success than if they kept with the same approach. The local fans and media are killing Shanny today. The top sports talk morning show dubbed him "Shanazorn"...

Shanny's far from perfect. But vs all the redskins coaches in the last decade (including Joe Gibbs 2.0) he's by far the best.

You can't say that he's the best until he finishes a year. I would argue that Marty Schottenheimer had the personnel to really kick ass with Stephen Davis and the power running game (finishing 6-2) before Snyder fired him because he wanted control back. Martyball with that lineup scared me. Snyder fired him, hired Spurrier, and the rest is history.

Yeah Marty was their best coach of the past decade. But I agree with bsaza that the Shanny regime will ultimately succeed in the future.

The bottomline is that you can't build Rome in a day. Especially when you have no draft picks.

This is going to be a 3 year process.

I take Shanahan and his SB victories over Marty and his not. He's a good coach... but, it's hard for me to speak to candidly on his short career with the redskins since i was fairly young and it was so brief.

So let me revise, Shanahan is the best coach i've watched with my adult critical thinking skills.

Shanahan has 1 playoff victory since Elway retired. Gibbs took the Skins to the playoffs in 2 of 4 seasons. Hard for me to say that Shanahan is already a better coach for the Skins than Gibbs was the second time around. I might be a better coach than Spurrier or Zorn... lol

Which begs the question: If it's a 3 year process, why give up a premium draft pick (could have been a LB or DL who fit the 3-4 scheme or Jimmy Claussen as a future block) plus a future pick to get McNabb? If they're rebuilding, rebuild. Don't try to half win now and half rebuild...

This definitely has the look of a stupid move by Shanny. We'll see, but I fail to see how this can really compare to the benching last year by Reid since Philly had much better personnel across the board - especially Kolb at QB vs. Grossman.

McNabb was having a worse game against Bmore and was missing looks and everything. Reid made a play at halftime when the team was mostly out of it, and Kolb got obliterated. McNabb then came back in a short week, ripped up the Cards, and the team rolled to the playoffs. Reid and McNabb had 9ish years together to repair whatever rift there was, and winning helped. Not sure if the winning or the relationship can really fix this.

I don't kill them for it. It's easier to build confidence in your players within the system when you have a qb you can win with.

They felt that there wasn't a qb worth taking in this draft, so they traded for one. I can't blame them. He's credible, he brings accountability to the team, and he gives them a leader that they severely lacked for quite a while.

You can develop a qb behind him. What sucks for them is the lack of draft picks to work with.

The Skins didn't really add a player to develop behind him is the issue. Rex Grossman might know the system, but he's not going to be the future of the franchise. Get a developmental guy in the works and then make it happen. The Skins also can't really afford to take a QB in Round 1 this year because they have so many holes on the OLine. They should be investing in a brand new interior line. A weapon at WR is also a good idea. Going after a QB in round 1 and then asking him to succeed with Torrain as the lead back, that offensive line, and Santana Moss and Cooley only is not a good strategy.

Losing the picks hurts, but they've been getting a lot of busts so they need to change the environment so that what picks they do have are in a better situation to succeed. The credibility Donovan gives them is a big part of that for Shanny, this is move for the young players as much as it is for Donovan.

Young Donovan McNabb was able to win games with his feet and crappy weapons like Pinkston and Thrash because he had a good line. Older McNabb had success because Westbrook was an amazing pass blocking and receiving weapon, plus the emerging young receivers on the Eagles. That same McNabb does not have that luxury in DC, plus he's learning a new scheme and playing behind a crappy line. The guy is a great player, but he has inconsistent mechanics, has hiccups with clock management, and not many players could hold up behind this line to find these weapons. Double Moss and Cooley, and get pressure up the middle, and McNabb will have issues. Most QB's would have similar problems.

Yeah, I don't think you focus on replacing Donovan right now. I'd be targetting a first round WR if I was them, give Donovan a young weapon and someone to learn from Moss before Moss losses it. You address two of the interior OL spots in FA with at least stop gap caliber guys and then draft two OL guys in the late mid rounds-early late rounds and get a RB in there somewhere and the O can become solid. The D isn't perfect yet but they have some good pieces and really need to get the O moving forward before solidifying the D. Granted there might not be value in those positions in those spots, but for now that's the ideal scenario for them. Lets them grab their QB OTF in the 2012 draft and then just go BPA and stock pile up some young talent. They really should've cashed Fat Albert in to recoup some of the picks they've lost.

They'll draft a qb this year. They won't draft an interior olinemen early, that's not Shanny's MO. He'll find guys in the mid rounds to plug in like he always does.

Now WR would make a lot of sense, so I can see that. But again, FA is right there, and I'm guessing Vincent Jackson is a Skin. Big name FAs love coming to the NFC East.

Patience is the key. I trust Shanny to turn this thing around.

I actually wouldn't touch the D right now. The D just needs more time to gel. They could use a Carter replacement, but the CB's are good enough, Landry has finally become the beast we expected 4 years ago, and the LB group is decent. Might want some better ILB talent, but that can be found in the middle rounds. The Skins need a pretty major offensive overhaul. More OLinemen + depth, probably another RB, as Portis is gone, and another receiving weapon. Cooley is a fine TE in this scheme. Just have to let him get off the ball and block less.

Now WR would make a lot of sense, so I can see that. But again, FA is right there, and I'm guessing Vincent Jackson is a Skin. Big name FAs love coming to the NFC East.

Patience is the key. I trust Shanny to turn this thing around.
Big name FA's love going wherever the most money and media attention is. The NFC East teams are all top 10 in terms of money, and they get a ton of prime time games because of the media markets and past/current successes. Assuming the cap or whatever salary structure is there, Jackson could make his way to the Skins. We know he won't be an Eagle or Giant (and probably not a Cowboy).

Logan Mankins . . . perfect all around. Money-Bags Snyder signs him to a top dollar contract, makes a huge improvement in the interior line w/o losing (yet another) draft pick(s) and the big money deal ensures NE gets a the highest possible comp pick in the 2012 draft.

There are plenty of big names, but is that necessarily how the Skins are going to try to build their teams anymore? You'd have to assume that they're really looking for players who fit their system. Mankins hasn't done the zone blocking, and he hasn't played in a year. While he is a talent and an upgrade, will the Skins be willing to invest that much in him when he might not fit the system?

I'm really confused by your comparisons.

I'll just tell you why i like Shanahan better than Gibbs 2.0. I prefer Shanahan because he's aggressive and our team has played with less mental errors. It seemed like Gibbs was out of it in some games... So many wasted timeouts and bad clock/game management. The reason why Gibbs 2.0 was successful to some extent was because he knew how to build a team to fit his philosophy. Shanahan know how to do that as well, the differnce is his philosophy is still relavent and he knows how manage the clock and use timeouts. I take shanahan in this short amount of time over gibbs all day.

I dunno... There have been plenty of wasted timeouts and opportunities so far in Shanahan's tenure. I see plenty of mistakes and penalties, and the offense hasn't shown much in 8 games. In the end, results matter. I don't love Andy Reid as my team's head coach, but his results speak for themselves. Lots of wins, lots of chances at a Super Bowl. I really can't complain too loudly.

If it's a matter of preference, I can't argue with you. I'm just saying you can't discount Gibbs because he got them to the playoffs twice in 4 years, and Shanahan is so far 4-4 and might not. I can't argue your opinion. Just saying that Gibbs did something, so give him some credit.

No, i like Gibbs he's a nice old man and he gave the franchise 3 superbowls in addition loads of wins. As far as 2.0 yeah he deserves credit for taking his teams to the playoff a couple time... sure, awesome, good job joe gibbs.

Would you rather have Gibbs 2.0 or Shanahan as your coach?
