Richardson's power and speed and ability to catch out of the backfield puts him over Miller for me. He ran for 750 yards and 8 TDs as a freshmen... backing up the Heisman winner. You'll see Richardson run through a LB then run by a DB.

Just speaking in general on behalf of those guys who are praising Richardson over Miller in this thread, nothing major.

VT runningbacks always seem to get overhyped and fizzle out in the pros. They either can't stay healthy, or just can't get it done.
Ryan Williams is already out for the season before his season even began... I was concerned with his durability even as a prospect coming out.
Darren Evans is a walking incision...
Go back to Kevin Jones, Lee Suggs, Branden Ore, etc... even back to Shirone Stith and Ken Oxendine.
VT just has a bad track record of producing quality NFL backs....

Please NEVER mention Ore again!!!!! I tear :'/ up everytime I reminisce about his HS days & the potential he had to be an ELITE NFL back coming out of Tech.

Point Blank Miller is the only back that can challenge Richardson for the #1 spot in April.

As opposed to SEC RBs in general producing in the pros???
Miller is a good RB. (Portis is a good comparison for him, except that Miller is bigger than CP was at Miami.) Richardson seems to be a good back.
But can someone explain how this 'all world' talent behind one of the better Olines in the country only managed 37 yards on 13 carries against Kent State??
Other than being a 5 recruit, Richardson has done nothing in college for so many 'Bama fans to think he's better than Ingram. No way a healthy Mark Ingram in the first game of the season only manages 37 yards against Kent State.

Like I said he is the most overrated back on this board. He is better than Lattimore according most people here even though he has done next to nothing while Lattimore was destroying the SEC.

A healthy Mark Ingram couldn't hardly run for 30 yards against Auburn the year he won the Heisman Trophy. Trent had to come in and get the ground game going...
Did you even watch the Alabama/Kent St. game? The offensive line was horrible. It's the biggest concern right now among the Bama fanbase. Alabama's offensive line isn't EVER supposed to look that bad. Hopefully Saban just wasn't trying to show too much that game...
As far as SEC backs go, Bama, Tennessee, LSU, UGA, Florida, Ole Miss, Auburn, etc... have produced some pretty damn good ones... the list is too long to make.

What SEC RBs recently have been so great in the pros, good enough to dismiss the RBs out of Va Tech??
On the list you mentioned, which schools were the last ones to produce a 1000+ rusher in the NFL??
SEC RBs despite what you might think aren't tearing it up in the pros.

I haven't seen a player hit the hole with such acceleration in quite some time. Sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's bad, but when it's good, he's going for at least 30-40 yards and most likely is gone. When it's bad, it's just a no gain or one yard gain.

I see a lack of input on your behalf in that thread therefore I can't really tear apart your rankings after one week.

"The thing with Trent is you know where he's going to run, and he's coming right at you between the tackles," said Lorenzo Ward, the defensive coordinator at South Carolina. "We watched a lot of film on Trent last year before [playing Alabama], and we thought he was better than Ingram."
Those 'Bama fans are such homers...

Well the NFL's leading rusher last season was a UDFA out of Tennessee...
McFadden and Felix Jones are both productive backs. Hell, even Peyton Hillis rushed for 1,000 yards.
Most of the best backs from the SEC that have been pro-bowlers in the league for the past decade or so and even re-wrote record books in some cases (Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Deuce McAllister, Fred Taylor, etc.) are retired now... and a new wave of talented backs are coming to replace them.
Name ONE VT back that's ever so much as made a pimple on Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Deuce McAllister's, or Fred Taylor's ass...
What are you even arguing?

I'm not sure what kind of time table you're putting on this so let's check out the last 5 years? What kind of great NFL RBs has Va Tech produced?

Lacey and Flowers had no trouble getting getting yards against the "tough" Kent State defense. They had more yards on less carries.

Hell, Felix Jones also has a good shot to run for 1k this year. Would finish off the Arkansas trifecta.

That's fine. Just that lately SEC RBs, I'm talking about roughly the last decade haven't been dominant NFL performers.
Neither has anyone ever from Va Tech in recent memory ever rushed for 1k in the pros, but it's not as if the pro bowl teams of recent vintage have been dominated by SEC backs.
Hillis was a 7th rounder, Foster was a street FA out of Tennessee and up until last season McFadden couldn't stay off IR.
For the last decade, the record of SEC RBs has been less than the reputation of the conference IMO.

Has there ever been a college backfield to produce three 1000-yard seasons at once? As is quite possible this coming season?

First team that came to mind were the Miami Hurricanes in the early '00s that had Gore and McGahee on the roster but the other RB was Payton or Davenport.
