A lot of veterans simply don't get it, that with a flat cap for the next couple of seasons, older veterans aren't going to get the money they want and will have to settle for less. Feeney is kidding himself if he thinks he will get top money at the end of his career.
He probably just wants to skip training camp and maybe the pre season games and save his body for the regular season. However, if it is the money, he's in for a shock.

Much of that will go to draft picks and probably a K.

I agree, plus most teams carry a $$$ safety net in case a starter gets injured and a veteran needs to be brought in later in the season.

Draft will cost about 3.5-4 million extra due to 51 player rule (7 million in cash). So they don't have as much room as we think but could get a bargain vet or two.

If they need more they could restructure Tulloch.

Restructuring too much is very dangerous. I think we are right at that line right now.

It's not bad when they have a ton of years left like with Calvin and Tulloch. Restructuring Suh this year blew donkey balls for next two years (one is an option year).

If they need 2 million they'll restructure Tulloch before cutting anyone. But they won't need 2 million.

Scheffler is a candidate to be cut still IMO. It would depend on who we got in the draft but if we got another WR or TE I think he could be a guy that is a late cut.

I agree. Cutting Scheffler will save $2.45m against the cap and he's the most vulnerable looking. The Lions have been linked to Dominik Hixon and DHB while Justin Hunter and Robert Woods have been hosted and interviewed. Burleson and Broyles can be the slot receiver which is basically the same role as Scheffler.

Contract talks between Jason Hanson and the Lions are also reported to be ''going nowhere'' with Hanson looking to earn close to the $2.55m he made last year, so they may look at drafting a kicker which would save $2m.

Sorry Hanson you're still a kicker. Good on FGs but the touchbacks are lacking.

Hanson is a luxury, I don't think we can afford if we want to take the next step. With a flat cap, paying a kicker top dollar shouldn't be a priority but Ford might intervene there.

Not the best catch rate between Stafford/Scheffler. It was more Stafford IMO though throwing too hard down the seam. He's talking about Shaun Hill which no way they cut Hill.

Sammie Lee Hill is now a Titan, QB Shawn Hill is still a Lion.
I like Hanson,he's a lions HOF er, but there are a few intriguing K's (did I just say that?) who will likely go undrafted that would totally give Detroit 1st dibs if JH is not brought back. FU & FSU have 2really good kickers. Nebraska too.

I woulnd't cut Hill, but I might explore trading him to a team like Seattle or Baltimore for a 5th. Both have extra picks to play with and little at backup QB. I like Hill and all, but its a heavy cap hit for a backup QB given our situation.

I really hate the idea of Hanson not coming back. He is a K and I wouldn't get overly sentimental, but I'd like him to come back, finish his career here and ideally win a playoff game.

Scheffler should go if it means we can sign someone like Hixon. Wish we cut him and signed DHB. WOuld have been basically an even swap.

We have room that we don't need to cut Scheffler. Or restructure Tulloch for tiny extra cap hits on the remaining life of his deal.

Lions bring in CJ Mosely DT from the Jags for a visit. He was the Brown that crushed Stafford in 2009 for the first shoulder injury. Mosely did real well in run defense last year for the Jags with little help.

No way they should pay Jason Hanson 2.5 mil. Sorry, can't pay a guy for what he's done. He's not a 2.5 mil kicker anymore. Maybe if they had 20 mil in cap space but when guys like Burleson and Raiola have taken pay cuts I don't think you can pay Hanson.

Sort of. It was arguably either DHB or Scheffelr. I'd have preferred DHB.

Lions signed DT CJ Mosely to a 2 year deal. He was good in run defense last year. Better than Sammie Lee Hill in fact. Good depth signing.

Hanson has today announced his retirement after 21 seasons and 327 games. Nobody has ever scored as many points (2,150) for one franchise as Hanson has with the Lions.
