Default AP Awards Thread

Well, the AP has made a statement saying they'll release the winners of MVP, OPOTY, DPOTY, CBPOTY, ROTY (Offense and Defense), and Coach of the Year in the week leading up to the Superbowl. Figured we could just keep one running thread for it.

I also thought this quote was quite the nugget:

Quote:
"We're elated to announce AP's annual pro football honors on the NFL Network in the run up to the Super Bowl," said Lou Ferrara, AP's vice president and managing editor for sports. "This will provide a showcase for the awards after years of building a strong and credible voting system for picking the winners."
http://m.espn.go.com/nfl/story?storyId=6056990

Pretty funny, since this year's All Pro vote was an incredibly lazy and shoddy effort.

i think mike williams should get it over bradford...but thats just me. rarely do you see a WR make such an impact their rookie year and he was a 4th round pick...he out did harvin and harvin won it.

MVP Brady
Comeback Vick
DPOY Matthews
OPOY Foster (texans entire offense ran through him)
DROY King Suh...no contest
OROY Mike Williams

What Bradford did in St. Louis this year was amazing, he had pretty much nobody to throw to but still had an impressive rookie year. It has to be Bradford.

The "for being a 4th round pick" has no relevance here. It's just what he did, which was respectable but paled in comparison to Bradford.

I'd love for Williams to win and he is definitely deserving, but a rookie QB who puts up solid numbers is all but guaranteed to take out the award.

Bradford will get it, but it's worth noting that he completely fell apart at the end of the season. 1-6 TD-INT ratio in his last 5 games, QB rating under 70 in 4 of them, under 60 in 3 of them, and he really had a rough night against Seattle with a playoff birth on the line. (52%, 4.3 YPA, rating 52.4)

I think teams started figuring him out.

I agree.

Just imagine if Blount had started 16 games for the Bucs, though...

Basically.

In the Rams games I saw early and in the middle of the season, it looked like they were basically running a spread passing attack. Quick slants, screens, check downs....

Late in the year, like that Seahawks game, it seemed like they really clamped down on the short routes and forced him to go deeper, which led to a lot of incomplete passes. He only averaged 4.3 YPA on 36 passes.....that's rough.

Dudes a rookie on a team full of #3 and #4 WRs. Not to mention no TE.

So Marques Colston over Vince Young back in 2006 then?

It didn't seem to affect him that much up until those final 5 games then. They were a group well suited for the "spread it out and pass it quick" attack. Then when defenses started clamping down and forcing Bradford into more complex decision making, he started to fall apart.

There's nothing wrong with it....he was a rookie QB after all. He'll win the award no question, but as I said, it is worth noting that he had an awful end to the season.

His numbers aren't that good. 5.95 YAP, 30th. 60% completion, 20th. 3500 yards is a lot, 12th. Due to passing 3rd most. His 18TDs to 15 INTs is very good for a rookie.

I agree he will get it. Due to perception that he was really good.

I love Bradford going forward but I think Mike Williams has a much better chance than people think...

For all the reasons stated in this thread.

Bottom line, Bradford couldn't win the weakest division in the NFL and failed to score more than 6 points on the biggest stage against a pretty bad defense. I think voters will remember that game especially considering it was probably the only Rams game most of them saw all year...

A sharp observation would be that his receivers were terrible in that game and probably more to blame than Bradford (along with Shurmur not using SJax enough), but these are the same voters that picked Reggie Wayne over Calvin Johnson...

He probably should have.. Young had a 66.7 QB rating. That's terrible. I mean that makes Bradford's rating look good. It was Young's rushing numbers that kept him in contention. And Young also went to the playoffs and had a winning record, which Bradford did not.

Williams had a top 16 season at a position with 64 starters, Bradford had a top 25 season at a position with 32 starters. I'd give it to Williams.

I hate this "4th round pick" crap. He was a first round talent and a fourth round person, and you all know this.

Bringing up where a player was drafted in any of the rookie award talk is completely irrelevant and annoying imo. It just doesn't matter at all.

I wouldn't say he was a first round talent for sure. He really wasn't far off though, agree with your point.
