Chandler Jones - DE, potential 3-4 OLB. Guy has great athleticism and blood lines, Aruthur Jones DT of Baltimore and John Bones Jones of UFC are both his brothers.

gilbert to LT, colon to RT, pouncey at C... I'm oddly satisfied with our 3 core pieces of the line.. if we ge ta decent guard in the draft we may just be below 40 sacks this year

I'm pretty excited about the oline talent in this draft...
Cordy Glenn
Kevin Zeitler
Amini Silatolu
Brandon Washington
Brandon Brooks
Mike Adams
Keleche Osemele
Andrew Datko
Bobby Massie
Joe Long
Rishaw Johnson
Adams, Glenn, Zeitler and Silatolu are particularly suited to the Steelers imo.

Willie Colon restructures his deal. I believe it knocks off 3.8 million off the cap.

Whats with all this talk on ESPN about the possibility of us not resigning Wallace?
Is this real? They even said the Bengals were pursuing him?

Yeah if we can't find the cap space to sign him. Real possibility at this point. Or while we are working out a deal, he is a RFA tender, the Bengals could offer a contract of roster bonus of 20 million for 2012. We could in no way match this and we would get their original lower first round pick.
Bright side Wallace could decline all the other contracts till things fall apart. Or we work a deal out.
I think steelers are waiting on the new year to start and see how much the real hard cap is, and how to work around it. They don't want to make 34 YO, James Harrison contract gaurnteed.

Cleveland, New England and the Bengals should all be looking at Wallace

If we can't afford to re-sign Wallace and he does go elsewhere, how are we supposed to afford to sign two first round draft picks?

Two picks in the 20s will cost the Steelers around $3 million a year, for both. Wallace will cost us $9.3 million. The rookie wage scale put in place last year eliminated those $10 million a year rookie contracts from 2010.

He would command 9.3 mill if we franchised him correct?

yeah. You really only need to reserve 5 million for rookies in your cap.

Correct. $2.7 if we tender him with a first round pick. But as been said, if we do that we run about a 50/50 chance of losing him. If we franchise him, we still have the oppurtunity to work out a long term deal with him for say $5 or 6 million a year, kind of splitting the difference. But we can pretty well figure that whatever he gets is what Brown is going to want next year.

Assuming we do lose Wallace, what would you guys do? I was thinking about possibilities. Maybe trade up to #2 for either Kalil or Blackmon? St. louis has made it very clear they're willing to trade down. Or use one of the picks to trade up for DeCastro? Or maybe take two offensive linemen, like Glenn and Konz, keeping Konz at center and switching Pouncey over to LG and have an amazing interior oline.

It would cost an absurd amount to move up to number two. Especially because we'd be competing with teams that likely value e spot more because they're going up for a franchise QB.
I'd love to get Kalil, but it would almost certainly cost this years two first in that scenario, plus more picks and a first rounder next year. We the spots that we have to fill on this team we simply can't afford to do something like that.

Ben restructured his deal as well which saves us around $8mil. Seeing as we were just about $8mil over the cap we should be pretty close to compliance at this point.
Keep in mind that we still have the contracts of Aaron Smith, Farrior, Ward, Kemo, & big snack that might all be coming off the books as well so we should end up being in pretty good shape once all is said & done.
As for Wallace, my guess is that we'll just put the first rd tender on him because the only way in which we truly wouldn't be able to match an offer is if the other team structured the contract so that he would get both the signing bonus AND a large roster bonus this year. That would cause his 2012 cap hit to be more than what we could afford. Kinda like the old "poison pill" contract that Steve Hutchinson got when he went to the Vikings so the Seahawks couldn't match it (I might have the teams backwards).

Two firsts would/should be close to getting it, maybe a third there too for a later pick. When the Jets traded up for Sanchez, they gave up 17 and 52 for 5.

both teams did that to each other, Hutch vs Burelson.
yeah we still need to clear up another 5 for rookies and then another 5 to sign some guys.
Add Ward to that list or play for vet min.

They also gave up a three (i believe) other players in the deal.
And 17 plus 52 is 1330 points, to 1700 for number five. 21 and 24 is 1540 points, to 2600 for #2.
Better bet would be to shoot for DeCastro if he falls to 13 to 16. 21 and 56 would get us to 13, 24 and 56 would get us 16 and 112. and still leave us with another 1st rounder.

Next year without Wallace, Mendenhall, n Ward! (not to mention all the others, but these 3 are key to our offense)
F**k, could this really happen?

I honestly believe that Wallace will be here next year. If we do lose him, it would suck, but Holmes is a better WR and we went to the Super Bowl without him. Having two first round picks would really help us since WRs are dime and dozen.

Marvin McNutt is the guy we need. He's got strength, size and body control. He'd be the perfect compliment to our smaller speed guys.

doubt we pick him. Steelers alway go the opposite of what we all think. Last year we all were thinking Cb, we go DE.
2010 we were thinking Cb/S we go Center.
2009 we go Rb.
So who knows. We might end up with a NT like Poe or a LT like Martin.
