Default Top Undrafted free agents by position

Here are a few players that I watched this past season that were undrafted and might have a good chance at making it with a team if the lockout ever ends. I do feel bad for these players because they might never get a chance and this lockout backs up their career and opportunities big time, and if they do find a way in they will be way behind all of the other players potentially.

Below this position list are the players I was most shocked by that they were not drafted, and sadly based on Mr Bowers, injury concern and or history absolutely destroyed a players stock and or potential to be drafted in this draft.

Kristofer O'Dowd USC-the USC team was a different team with him at center, but I assume his injury history was to deal with it because he was and is a top flight center regardless of injury.

Wesley Saunders South Carolina- Shocked because the kid is big, fast, long arms and can get down field. He is bigger and better than a lot of the "athletic" tight ends drafted.

Ollie Ogbu Penn State- Very surprised he was not picked, very athletic lineman, gets off the ball, gives great effort, gets after the quarterback, what more do you want?

DeAndre McDaniel Clemson- Surprised because the kid was a star on the field, got sacks, interceptions, tackled well, was a beast, cannot believe he is that poor in coverage.

Terrance Toliver- Real natural solid receiver, shocked he was not taken.

Jerod Johnson Boise State- Big tough safety, very surprised no one took a chance on him late.

Deunta Williams UNC- Must be injury problems because consistently he has been a star safety, has size and can cover.

Josh Davis Georgia- Very good pass protector and will fine a team somewhere.

Dane Sanzenbacher Ohio State- Very shocked he was not picked, runs great routes, works hard, is smart and has good hands.

Joe Lefeged Rutgers- Good safety for a long time, ran well and tackles hard.

Nick Claytor Georgia Tech- Great run blocker, strong kid, not sure he is so untalented not to be drafted, was better than Barksdale at times.

Mark Herzlich Boston College- Injury issues again, great kid, great work ethic, he will get on a roster if we do have a season.

Tom Keiser Stanford- Good edge rusher, shows potential and could be a good 3/4 OLB potentially.

Darvin Adams Auburn- Very big play receiver, tall kid, long arms and ran well at the combine.

Zach Pianalto UNC- Great H-back prospect, really productive on the field, shocked someone did not pick him up.

Justin Boren Ohio State- Very solid guard on a elite football team.

Thomas Claiborne Boston College- Big kid, huge run blocker, strong, surprised he dropped but probably is to due with weight issues.

Kendric Burney UNC- Interception machine at times, sure he is small but he really knows how to play the football.

Josh Bynes Auburn- Was the best ILB in the country at times, sure Fairley helped but Bynes was a huge part of that teams success last year, surprised no one picked him late.

Jeff Maehl Oregon- Position receiver, had some impressive short speed numbers at the combine, still was not picked but could be a fine receiver.

Ugo Chinasa Oklahoma State- Huge kid, great size, now always productive but he has the build and the potential.

Mario Harvey Marshall- Very surprised he was not picked, thick linebacker, can run, has great speed, hits hard, not sure why he dropped.

Damien Berry Miami FL- All about injury history, thick runner, runs hard and is hard to bring down, has potential.

Nick Bellore Central Michigan- Very solid linebacker, runs fast, hits hard and should find a hope on some team.

Winston Venable Boise State- Great athlete, can run, tackles very aggressively, he will find a roster spot.

David Sims Iowa State- Impressive little safety, good tackler, solid and does not make many mistakes, physical imitations probably hurt him however.

Kenny Rowe Oregon- Was an elite pass rusher at times, long lean kid, surprised a team did not take him as a 3/4 OLB

Quentin Davie Northwestern- Productive player, big hitter, good tackler and can run, surprised someone did not take him late.

Will Hill Florida- Kid was lazy and not productive on Florida, but still he does have potential and surprised no one picked him, but in a way he deserves not to be picked.

So Bruce Figgins has given up playing for Georgia and declared for the Draft? He must have really hated being moved to fullback.

I don't see anyone signing Sturdivant since he just tore his ACL again during spring practice at UGA.

Guys who should definately be on the list
DT Ian Williams
CB Darrin Walls

A guy who could be on the list:
LB Brian Smith

A guy that shouldnt be on the list if only because he isnt even persueing a career in football:
OG Chris Stewart

Oh really, well that is good for him, I had him listed as a senior.

I was never a huge Brian Smith fan, Walls is solid though, I agree he is a potential undrafted free agent sign, and Ian Williams is as well. And too bad for Stewart, he could have been an ok guard but I guess it is his choice.

Oh and the world does not revolve around Athens Georgia and South Bend Indiana so kind of hard to follow hundreds of players outside those areas ;o) Thanks for the updates though, I always have over lap players that either got a 5th year or red shirted a season I did not know about.

I wouldnt even have mentioned Smith but for his final 5ish games of his career, he really stepped up his game to match his athletic talents.

Ian Williams got into law school and was actually already doing that in his final season. It was his lifetime dream so I guess he will be fine with the route he is going. I should have been more diplomatic in phrasing that though

Jeff Maehl could be similar to the guy in New England if he lands with the right team.

I totally agree, Toliver I have no clue why he was not drafted. Sanzenbacher is solid as can be as a route runner, Adams has big play ability and Wilson is very explosive at that position. Tori Gurley is an athletic freak, huge kid, long arms, big hands, drops passes but he still is only a RS sophomore and could develop if he is commited. I really like Chris Matthews for his size and strength, DJ Davis is a beast as well. James Rodgers has potential but I assume injury issues were the thing with him. Maehl will be drafted, just too good as a potential slot receiver for a team with a great quarterback like the Colts, Saints or Indy. Tons of people loved Derrell Johnson-Koulianos during the season, I was not a huge fan of him really, but he was big and strong, and had ok speed, surprised he was undrafted but I did have a lot of receivers ahead of him. Binns is a good player, but could be just good with that system, DeAndre Brown did not deserve to be drafted but hard to argue with his potential. John Chiles I think could be good as a sleeper and Austin Kelly has good ability, as does Dell.

Really nice to see Scotty McKnight get picked, saw him as a freshman and tagged him, he has nice hands, catches the football well and just looks like a natural receiver. Glad to see him get picked up. But yeah like most years a lot of receivers are undrafted because there is always more receivers than any other position. But it is much harder getting good defensive lineman, corners or offensive lineman than receivers.

The NCAA did give him another year of eligibility due to his injury last season. I believe this was announced in January.
