|
I think his biggest problem is the way he comes out of his stance, he shoots out really high and I think that actually makes him look slower and less explosive than he is since he isn't shooting straight out into the OL, plus it also plays into his other big problem of playing too high. Kinda like the difference between run blocking and pass blocking, instead of shooting out and attacking the man in front of him he stands up and gets his arms on his man. The raw physical tools aren't really that different from Aldon Smith's even though it doesn't show on film the way it did for Smith. I'm not sold on any DEs in this draft but Jones is a very interesting one IMO as he seems like a guy who has some fairly simple things to work on that could really let him fully utilize the athleticism that he has.

i feel the guys early in the draft at DE aren't that much better than some mid round guys we can get, which is why I don't really want a DE round 1 at all

The thing is, we know by now the type of DE this front office looks for: long tall guys with long arms.
As much as I like the Brandon Grahams, Vinny Currys of the world, that is not our MO when it comes to DEs. The front office doesn't like those guys. They like the Kiwis, the JPPs, the Osis of the world.
Our front office is a height/weight/speed type of front office, we like guys with size and long arms. And of those DEs in the draft, Coples, Mercillus, Jones, they all have some flaws that make you say maybe not.

Osi isn't as big as our other guys though. Vinny Curry is bigger than Osi. Osi was the outlier but he possessed the speed that Tuck, Kiwi, and JPP don't have.

Curry is thicker. But Osi is longer. No? I could be wrong.
Fwiw, I compare Curry to Osi coming out. Both had a great first step, lots of speed off the edge, close to similar length, and both needed to develop their inside game at the next level.

Osi probably does have longer arms. I just meant height/weight wise Curry is a little bigger than Osi. They are the same heigh though while JPP, Tuc, Kiwi have 2 or 3 inches on them.

I have been on the Jake Bequette bandwagon all season long. 6'5, 275, 4.8 40, had a ton of sacks. Plus he can be our new Wosi.

I think arm length in general is a big factor to our front office's decisions. Our front office loves long arms. Prince is the first skill position player I can remember that we drafted in awhile that has short arms.

This is a very good point. It's actually something that really pops out at you when watching other teams.

Need to see more of him. From what I've seen, I like his flashes, but his motor runs hot and cold, and his arms aren't very long.
I think he would do well with us, but my main concern is his motor. Arm length could make us look somewhere else, he only has 33" arms.
I love how he slips off blocks though, I love his first step, I love how good he looks when he is playing the 9, he's not a great heads up DE, if you put a TE on his side he gets dominated, but worse than that, he quits.
He's like Vinny Curry with a hot/cold motor.

Speaking of long arms, every time I see Jimmy Smith beast it for the Ravens I think what could have been </3
I loved Jimmy Smith last year. I like Prince, but I think Jimmy Smith is going to be a monster. If he wasn't such a thug, he'd probably be a Giant right now.

You think we have Jenkins that high up our draft board? I'd think he's behind Hill, Reiff, Konz, Adams and maybe even Wright or Gilmore.

Hadn't really noticed him quiting, but I guess I could've just misread it as getting washed out since I've only seen him play twice. With how much I'm starting to want Spence, Kendricks or Bobby Wagner and how unlikely either is to last to our third round pick I'm starting wonder if we won't be looking for a guy like Cam Johnson in the third as our solution to DE, since we'll likely have higher rated players at other positions available when we pick in the first and I want one of those three LB in round two.

Do you guys think Prince is going to work out or is he too tight-hipped for the NFL?

I'd venture to say Jenkins is not on our board at all.

He looked good when he got to just man up. But with the injury he was really behind the ball on our excessively complicated zone adjustments. I think he's going to be a stud cause he's a smart kid who'll pick that **** up once he actually gets to work on it in the offseason and will be a great replacement for Webster, who I think has a very similar game, down the road.

no no no, its mine. I doubt we have Jenkins high, but in terms of just football I feel he should be rated that highly.

I suspect the front officr like Chandler Jones.
He is 6'5 with 35.5" arms. He is raw but also is pretty physical. I suspect he is the type of DE we would like to groom as a future LDE.
I actually think Jones is a better fit for us than Perry, Mercilus, Branch and Curry.

I wouldn't touch Jenkins with a ten foot pole. I'm sure hes completely off our draft board.
My new big board:
1. Luke Keuchly
2. Stephen Hill
3. Cordy Glenn
4. Kendall Wright
5. Coby Fleener
6. Whitney Mercillus
7. Vinnie Curry
8. Mike Adams
9. Devon Still
10. David Wilson

I guess we're all doing this now:
1. Luke Kuechly
2. Stephen Hill
3. Michael Brockers
4. Mike Adams
5. Kendall Wright
6. Doug Martin
7. Coby Fleener
8. Jonathan Martin
9. Mohamed Sanu
10. Cordy Glenn

That's my top 5, after that I don't really have much preference between Brockers, Kendall Wright, Mercilus, Jonathon Martin, Massie, Still or Curry. I could get behind any of them, or most DL in this draft other than Ingram.
