He was the 12th highest scorer in the league last year and has missed <10 games in the past four years. I'd take that chance. They're going to be playing/paying a decent number of young forwards and grinders, they desperately needed a new top-6 presence with Ribeiro gone and Morrow turning into a turd on ice.

I don't think Whitney is a huge risk because every other forward capable of scoring that much is gonna get a minimum of 4 years. There's a lot to be said for avoiding the risk of a lengthy, lengthy contract if you're overpaying all along.

^^ Exactly. I'd much rather give Whitney that kind of money than overpay for a guy like Alex Semin where you could be kicking yourself in the ass for four years instead of two.

He won't, but he can definitely do better than last year. You'd have to play him top-6 for him to be effective. That's also the case with some of the youngsters on the Island so I doubt he gets much, but they are pretty good at messing up their youth. 1 year, 1 million isn't the worst for a show-me gamble/shootout ace. The Isles don't have a ton of great options, but I can see a lot of press box time for him.
