No risk at all in signing Gholston. Get him in the 4-3 where he belongs and see if you cant get him to do what he was suppose to do. He was a bad fit for the 3-4 from the start...

He is a bad fit in the NFL. Period.

Gholston is really the least concerning move...mostly because, like I said, he's glorified training camp fodder. But look at what else we've done:
Roy Williams - Ugh....
Matt Spaeth - Groaannnnn.......
Adam Podlesh - Alright, we need a punter and he's better than Maynard.
A punter is the highlight of our free agent moves. There are/were a ton of o-lineman available....not a damn one. We're looking at J'Marcus Webb as our potential LT. Another year of Chris Williams and Roberto Garza at guard? We've done nothing at center other than lowball Kreutz....sigh.
Just....sigh. It's hard being a Bears fan.

Bears really should try and sign Justin Blalock. But they won't.

Roy could be pretty big in that offense, especially considering your receivers are pretty lousy.

J'Marcus Webb is going to play RT, they've already announced that.
And yeah, it's real hard being a fan of a team that's 58-38 in the last six years. Please, everyone feel sorry for us, we obviously don't do it enough for ourselves.

We could be so much better though. So much better.

I feel like most people conveniently forgot just how slow he looked last year. He looked like he was running in molasses.

We need to draft better, not sign more free agents. Hopefully Carimi and Paea turn out to be probowl players, because Jerry hasn't had a really good draft since....2004? 2006?

Daniel Graham is visiting the Steelers today. He could sign today.

We have to be the most whiny fan base in the NFL. You'd think Jerry Angelo was Mike Brown.

Roy was never a burner, he's always been a possession/move the chains type of guy. He actually was having a pretty darn good season with us up until Romo went down, you could've argued that he was our offensive MVP in those first 5 or so games. I really think it's gonna work out there, Martz knows how to use him.

Exactly, I was just looking up our drafts to remember the names of all the 2nd/3rd/mid round types who did absolutely nothing for us. Michael Okwo? Dan Bazuin? Jarron Gilbert? Jaquin Iglesias? Garrett Wolfe?
I don't expect us to hit homeruns with every one of them, but I do at least expect solid contributors if nothing else. Most of those guys were gone after a season or two, and guys like Wolfe only ever contributed in special teams.
When you have failures like this, you need to look to free agency to stay competitive. And it's not like we're right against the cap, we have money to spend. Signing someone like Justin Blalock or even Jake Bell would help our o-line immensely. And call me overly pessimistic, but I fully expect Roy Williams to bomb. He's lost it physically. Like I said, he looked painfully slow last year in Dallas and I don't expect him to get magically faster now that he's back in Martz's offense. It wasn't the system that was the problem, it's the fact that he's just not that fast anymore. A guy like Mike Sims-Walker or James Jones might not have been a world-beater #1 WR, but I think they would have brought more than Roy will.

Not at all. Packers fans think they are going to win the Superbowl every year. Bears fans sit and wait for the team to fail so they can pat themselves on the back for predicting it.
We're a long way from the Superfans.

Take it for what it's worth, but here are Roy's stats through the first 5 games of the season before Romo went down.
21 Catches, 306 Yards, 5 TDs
Like I said, a lot of Dallas fans were excited at that point that he looked like he was turning the corner. He was makings plays and finally started looking like the WR we thought we got when we originally made the trade.

I'm still cautiously pessimistic. Maybe he'll be fine. I always hope for the best, but I'm always ready for the worst too.

There was absolutely nothing james jones brings to the table that our taem doesnt have. And if the Jaguars dont even try to sign MSW to any sort of contract, id be very careful there.
At the end of the day, lets wait and see what we are going to do in the remaining days. The olsen trade certainly wasnt great and not re-signing Manning hurts, but at least we didnt sign another Omiyale

I was fine letting Manning go. I want to see Major Wright at safety.
Bears also re-signed Corey Graham, good for special teams.

True, it is only a 1 year deal though correct?. Worst case you guys can let him walk after this year, best case Martz resurrects his career and you guys have a stud #1 WR for Cutler. Low risk, high reward.

The only guy that could help Gholston is with the eagles........ Jim Washburn.
