Sheesh, this epic fail has been stealing money for years....

You act like he was signed for 30 million dollars. If he gets cut at this point who cares, he's healthy now. Chances of him making it a season without getting hurt are very slim but he's far from a salary cap issue. Last I checked he wasn't being signed to start, so whether he plays or gets hurt matters very little in the grand scheme of things.

Didn't you just prove my point? If it wasn't about the money and he just wanted out Minnesota and may even be willing to take less to play elsewhere. Minnesota wouldn't be his best option if he feels he just doesn't want to be apart of the team anymore which would go beyond money.

Patriots signed another Gronkowski brother in Dan Gronkowski. How was he thought of during his tenure with the Broncos?

They did the same thing with Leftwhich a few years ago. Garrard was never more than a middle of the pack QB. I bet Seattle signs him.

Twice now that the Jags have pulled this. They did the exact same thing to Leftwich a few years back iirc.

Garrard is a dead average quarterback, but he can still play some on a team that's looking to compete with a stop gap. Washington, Miami, or Seattle could be a decent fit for him if they don't like the in house options.

It would be hard for him to get in and pick up the offense in time for him to have an impact this season I think.

It's not like he'd be any worse than Tarvaris Jackson in Seattle.

It is very late into the process...but you don't bring Garrard in with the idea of running a complex offense either. You bring him in for a guy to make easy throws and check it down.

Garrard was far and away the best QB on that team, though. And with Mccown and those receivers. They're absolutely screwed.

I think this is a move to save Jack Del Rio's job. If the Jaguars suck with a veteran QB at the helm, he'll be fired. But if they are starting a rookie, Del Rio can use that excuse to get a few more years to turn the team around.

They're starting Mccown. And I think it would be a horrible idea to turn to Gabbert in his first year. He's not even close to being NFL ready.

It is idiotic to start McCown. He isn't an upgrade. They should just start Gabbert. He is more NFL ready than Newton and Dalton. With a decent offensive line and a solid running game to help him out, Gabbert would be fine.

If McCown didn't get hurt last year, this move would have been made MUCH sooner. Pretty much from the day they paid Garrard franchise QB money, the Jags have been looking for someone else.

That's true. In fact they DID make a QB change last year very early in the season but McCown tore his acl a few plays in. That saved David from being cut.

Pfttt. I would take both of them over Gabbert's readiness right now. Newton's accuracy sucks, but he has this amazing poise and precense, where I dont think early struggles would have a negative effect on his long term play at all. Dalton has looked a lot more comfortable out there in a pro offense than Gabbert.

I just dont want to see them ruin him by turning to him this early.

And no Mccown isnt an upgrade over Garrard, imo either, but that's the point. Looks more like they're throwing in the towel. If you can do that and still sit Gabbert, I like that idea better than throwing Gabbert to the wolves.

I couldn't remember if he was playing because they pulled Garrard or if he was playing while Garrard was banged up.

Also, they jumped on Trent Edwards as he was released too in order to test drive him.

McCown has outperformed Garrard in many scenarios the past 2 years. Last offseason, he was much more accurate and sharp in pre-season and Training camp. And yes, they did bench Garrard in favor of McCown, but he tore his ACL.

I for one never thought much of Garrard as more than an average starter. McCown, from watching his time in Tampa as well, was much more accurate. He's a serviceable starter, maybe better than Garrard.

That's the point right there at the end. If you think McCown and Garrard are even, then cut the one who's set to make $9 million. This would have been Garrard's last season anyway.

Why didn't McCown start getting more reps in training camp then?

Recovering from ACL surgery. He tore it at about week 5 or 6 last season. Plus, he didn't get to rehab with team trainers because of the lockout. That was the same thing with Tampa and WR Arrellious Benn. He was held out of training camp practices because he was recovering from that injury.

I see. This makes a lot more sense then. Still, McCown has barely had any serious reps I'm guessing. To put the faith on the team on his shoulders seems really risky. Garrard may have been an expensive option, but at this point they should have kept him. I'm surprised they didn't release him earlier when the free agency period began and tried to sign another veteran. I don't remember the Jaguars being that aggressive in that area.
