Just read Curtis Lofton might be coming back because of the lack of a market. Awesome. I understand why he wasn't getting a mega deal, but the lack of interest in him is surprising.

I thought he was pricing himself out of the market by asking for a huge contract.

Other than Garcon, the deals this year haven't been too crazy. Lofton might be better off signing a 2 year deal and hitting free agency again in 2014. He'll be 28 then. Still young enough for a decent deal.

Nah, not too crazy. We only have a new highest paid defensive player ever and Peyton Manning signing for more overall money than his last contract was worth. (How much he actually sees of that is up for debate..but still.)
Oh, and that Mark Sanchez abortion of a contract.
Nah, but nothing too crazy ;)

Yup. I'd love to have him back at a team friendly price. He's an elite thumper.

Lofton has some knee issues, he'll age quick.

Yes! Unfortunately, the Superbowl takes place two months after the supposed end of the world.....so no one is alive to see it.

Yep. Makes sense because all we had was Julius Thomas (a project) and Virgil Green (facing a 4 game suspension). Fells and Rosario left as FA's.
It will be nice to see the TE be a significant part of the offense this year. It's been a while...

Peyton Manning is your QB. TE will be a big part of your offense. I hope your RBs can pass block though.

None of that was a surprise to me other than Sanchez's contract. And that contract isn't terrible. It's is actually very cap friendly. And easy to get out of after 2 seasons with very minimal cap issues.

Yeah, true. I was just busting your balls.
It makes me wonder though....what was Sanchez's agent thinking when agreeing to something like that? Or McNabb with the Redskins?
They agree to these deals with all of the "big money" in the future after a point where the player is easily cuttable. Seems dumb.

Because he still got 20 million guaranteed over the next two years. And if he still stinks he'll get cut and would have stolen 20 million. If he plays well, he'll get up to 50 mil plus, which no other team in their right mind would give him right now.

His was split a little more evenly at least, but McNabb got what, $3 of that supposed $40 million?

Yeah now that I look at it, it really isn't that cap friendly. It lowered their cap this year, but next year his number isn't that great.

It's marketing. They mention these contracts when they're courting players who aren't business savvy.

Well, first of all, never doubt a players cockiness. You know McNabb and Sanchez both thought they were going to play their way into a position where they would/will be uncuttable at the choke point in the contract. It's not true in either instance, but I think it plays a large part. Second, they have no other choice. If McNabb doesnt sign that contract, who else will sign him? If Sanchez doesn't agree, there is a decent chance he is cut at the end of this year. He also gets more money up front right now.
The Sanchez deal was great for the Jets because realistically, it was going to be hard for us to get rid of him before 2 years from now without a cap hit. This way we get a lower number this year (higher number next year, but that is offset by Scott's large contract coming off the books), and we can still get rid of him in the two years if he is bombing. And if he DOES turn it around, and get the mental part of the game down, as unlikely as it is, we have him at an extremely reasonable rate for three more years.

So the Jets got a free 6th round pick. They also give up a 7th.
So it's Stanton + 7th, for Colts' 6th rounder.
