Let me start this one by saying that there’s no reason to believe former Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer is emerging from retirement...
|
That said, Jake Plummer is throwing passes in Denver. Just a curious little factoid. He'd probably be better as a pure backup than Caleb Hanie...

|
He had a sub par year coming off the injury. Most people thought he'd rebound, but most people also thought since his rookie? year, he hadn't been great, only pretty good. Fringe #1 corner. Everyone knew he was getting paid, but it was pretty much agreed upon Atlanta really overpaid out of need.
I think Dimitroff just got way too excited about him because he was a big fan of his coming out of the draft, and loved the fact that he tackled. Plus it was filling a massive need.
He was actually pretty good his first year. I would have been confident in saying he was a top 20 corner. Still very overpaid, but a nice piece. He was just comical bad this past year though. Didn't even tackle well.

Falcons fans tend to get sensitive when I bring this up because it technically can't be proven but it's 100% accurate to me. Now is he going to get better? Sure he is. I just don't think your going to ever see him make that big leap into an elite or dominant QB that can carry his team in the playoffs.
He's going to need to have everything go right for him to win in the playoffs, and he's really the type of QB who needs a great defense and he would be a lot better then two elite WR's out there IMO.
I still don't think the Julio trade was a bad idea, just because I think guys like Julio are rare and worth the cost to secure that type of talent.

The Falcons are gonna trade Michael Turner in return for Matt Forte, who will get a new contract.
Probably not, but it kinda makes sense.

Nobody thinks a QB will become "elite" until he does. Joe Montana, John Elway, Peyton Manning, etc. all had naysayers prior to becoming "elite". Unless you have a crystal ball that shows you Matt Ryan being less than elite over the coming years, I'm gonna keep hoping he steadily gets better and eventually becomes an "elite" QB.

I would be very angry with that trade. Michael Turner is getting close to garbage. He doesn't offer anything as a receiver or blocker really....no outside running ability....
Backs like that are a dime a dozen in the late rounds. It would be an incredibly stupid move for the Bears to make. Let's not even joke about it.

Alright I'll just come out and say it and cut out the questioning. That would be, like the dumbest ******* thing I have ever seen on this earth if the bears accepted that trade. Only in a Falcons fans head does that trade make sense.

While Turner has fallen off a good bit, he gets a little too much hate for somebody who has 1,300+ yards rushing in three of the last four years along with fifty touchdowns.
That said, trade wouldn't happen.

Most Falcon fans know that would be a stupid trade and could never happen.

Because they don't really want to give Forte a long term contract? And because I'm bored. Turner could be a solid contributor for them and I believe he'd be off their books after this season, freeing them up to sign someone else next offseason.
Also, Turner is from Illinois, so he'd get a +1 speed bonus for playing for Da Bears.

He does get a bit too much hate, but some of it's pretty justified. He's not what he was earlier in his Falcons, is extremely one demensional, and has benefited greatly from running behind the best FB in football.

Let's not get carried away exaggerating about how much Turner has fallen off.
TDs over the last two years:
Turner: 23
Forte: 13

brandon jacobs has 16 touchdowns in the last 2 years, so clearly he's better than Forte.
stats can quite often be misleading

Once we got inside the 10 (even more specifically inside the 5), Muarkey got a boner because he knew he could just call runs up the middle leading to Turner TDs. Doesn't make Turner an elite back.

If the Bears were going to trade Forte for anything, it certainly wouldn't be Mike ******* Turner.

The ole Jerome Bettis thought of line. Have deuce staley run hard, until inside the 5, then bring out the bus. He had more TDs than yards.
