I still don't understand how Aaron Curry didn't work out for you guys in the 4-3.

Why do so many supposed "sure thing" 1st round (specifically top of 1st round) LBs fail to live up to expectations? Aaron Curry, AJ Hawk (to a certain extent), Bobby Carpenter and Ernie Sims come to mind. Keith Rivers as well but you could probably blame that one on injuries. Sure there are some exceptions (Willis, Cushing) but it's kind of troubling. I still have a huge mancrush on Kuechly but he might be riskier than people are making him out to be.

most of those guys are 43 LBs and their draft position never really created the production to match it in the 43. Timmons was a WILL prospect but bulked up and moved inside in our 34. Beason is a beast in a 43 though at pretty much all positions.
i liked aaron curry and rivers as 34 guys personally

Very true. I always felt that linebackers (4-3) have one of the easier translations to the NFL but I'm starting to think otherwise.

Wallace is a fine wr but giving up a first and $10 mil per year is a lot, especially when there are plenty of good wrs available in the draft.

Run stuffer and not much else. Very smart and uses that to his benefit. Think Pierce but not as good.

I liked what I saw watching film on him and I think he could benefit greatly learning from Fletcher for the next 2-3 years.

Bc most "sure thing" prospects are high floor low ceiling guys with limited athleticism. They're typically guys who are already very sound technique wise and well coached, so you know what you're getting with them.
The problem with that is, when you have a low ceiling, you generally wind up being a JAG in the NFL. At the end of the day, the great players in this league outside of the qb position typically have elite athleticism to go with great football instincts.
If you're not athletic, there's only so much you can do on the football field. That's why we see so many workout warriors get drafted so high. You have to have a certain level of athleticism to succeed in this league.

bigbluedefense is spot on; size/athleticism/intelligence reveal a player's perceived ceiling, while some prospects are much farther along developmentally and can help teams which are ready to complete now or need an immediate fix.

I'm thinking that Hawk simply stopped juicing. That guy was crazy-good at tOSU, he absolutely lit up the combine (40" VJ, 3.96 20-yard shuttle, 6.82 3-cone), and you don't see any of that in the NFL.

Hawk and Curry are both incredible athletes. Sims was a freak. Rivers was too.

Rivers is a freak, and showed lots of promise while healthy. I hate that hes with the G-Men but I do hope he regains his form.
