The only way he goes to Jacksonville is if the Browns just don't feel like paying him as much as the jags. The Browns have the cash and poison pills are gone so it just comes down to if the Browns feel like it. It would have to be a stupid high number from Jacksonville for the Browns not to match i.t

this deal will really put jacksonville over the top, the best teams build their franchises around centers.

I'd die if they paid a **** load for Mack and then didn't draft a QB early. All that money to protect Henne.

Alex Mack would be a great replacment for the retired Brad Meester. Now they just need a QB and a RB for him to block for. That reminds me -- the Jets are interested in Chris Johnson but nobody is mentioning a future home for Maurice Jones-Drew.

The problem here is that the Jags aren't capable of making it that hard to match. The Browns currently have the most cap room in the NFL.

Jacksonville could literally frontload 17-18 mil into the first year and Cleveland could match it without even altering their plans.

Jags already have their guy with Toby Gerhart. He is getting 20+ touches a game and 1.1k+ rushing next year.

I just figured out a way to legally put in a poison pill.

5 years, 45 million.

-No signing bonus.
-First year's base salary guaranteed.
-2014 base salary: $15,000,000.
-2015 roster bonus of $13,000,000 guaranteed at signing, refunded if player voids contract.
-Player may void contract after 2014

Basically, if Cleveland matches, they only get to keep him for a single year at elite quarterback pay. If they match and he gets hurt/falls off a cliff into suckitude, they pay a fully guaranteed 28 mil over the first two years.

If Cleveland doesn't match, Jacksonville eats the big cap number for one year and then restructures to convert the 2015 roster bonus into a signing bonus so that it's spread out over four years instead of one.

It works, but only because Mack truly seems to want out of Cleveland and into Jacksonville.

I am not too good with contracts but what keeps him from not reconstructing with the Jags and heading somewhere else after 2 years of big money?

He can only opt out after the first year. If he wants that other 13 mil of guaranteed money and the rest of the contract, he has to stay. If he refuses to turn the roster bonus into a signing bonus, he's just being the biggest dick in the world to the Jags and ruining their cap for no reason because it's guaranteed and paid on the first day of the 2015 league year, either way. He'd instantly be considered an enormous cancer by the entire league.

If he opts out after one year in Jacksonville, he's going to get a reputation for not negotiating in good faith. If he opts out after one year in Cleveland, he's just that poor fellow who was forced to play in a city he didn't want to play in.

He signed the offer sheet, per the interweb.

I'm not really sure I'm down to make him the highest paid center in the NFL by a wide margin.

I don't understand -- if he wanted out, why couldn't he just tell the front office "hey, I want out and don't want to be here long term at all"

Or maybe he did the front office said go **** yourself we will make this as hard as possible; which in turn, did him a solid by getting him such a lucrative contract?

I just want the ordeal to end, whether he stays or goes.

5 days.

I think he pretty much did tell them he didn't want to be around and that they didn't care what he wanted.

It seemed like the writing was on the wall when he was willing to immediately and publicly paint the Chudzinski firing as a bad decision; definitely not the "here's my team loyalty, I really want to be here" response.

The Jags are gonna ink Alex Mack and then draft his brother Khalil with the #3 pick. Well I tried to tell you so (yes I did), but I guess you didn't know.

Alex Mack wants out of Cleveland because he wants to play for a SB contender.

Um, hello Jacksonville. F# you. Pay me.

Interesting thought I had and this comment allows me to bring it up.

Gerhart has been an advanced stat favorite and the Jags have implemented analytics into their decision making (Khan's son is involved). Just something to look out for in the draft.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...lucrative.html

Local beat reports that Alex Mack is aware the Browns can match the offer and heís prepared to honor the same contract in Cleveland if thatís the case. Haslam reiterated heís still prepared to match whatever the Jaguars offer.

Meh. Weíll see. I think Mack is a rock-solid center. I think he could be an important piece of the offensive puzzle. But I donít think heís irreplaceable and I donít know how comfortable I am with an ironclad long-term deal that makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL. At this point, Iím curious to know how Years 3-5 are structured. I believe the Browns have the most cap space in the NFL right now, so 2014 isnít an issue. And the Browns will have a massive amount of cap space in 2015, so 2015 isnít an issue either, as far as I can tell.

Right now, Cleveland has an expensive left tackle and might have an expensive cornerback if Joe Haden is extended. (If heís not, heíll be franchised.) Cleveland doesnít have an expensive quarterback, wide receiver, or pass rusher. Their homegrown talents at those positions arenít free agents until 2016 at the earliest. They donít have a lot of cap space tied into premium positions. Theyíve actually got a lot of cost-controlled assets. So, if the encumbering portion of the contract falls in Year 1 and 2, they can ďaffordĒ to overpay Mack. But if the backend affects long-term flexibility, then it might be enough to deter the Browns from matching.

Alex Mack and his next team is the top NFL story right now. Gotta love the NFL offseason.

Johnny Football sucks and can't throw the ball more than 15 yards and will break in half at the next level.

Looks like the browns will match. Honestly wouldnt it be better for mack to sign the tender and play for a year if he wants out of cleveland? At worst he'll be there 2 years with $22 million guaranteed. If they plan on matching he will be handcuffed to them for 5

Do you think the browns just arent ok wit losing him with no compensation? Dont see a sign and trade very often in the NFL, but this could be one

That's right -- I forgot. That's strange, since they re-signed Darren McFadden. I suppose it's smart, considering how often running backs get injured (and they can split carries).

That sounds like Michael Vick. Except that he has a gun for an arm, but can't hit the broad side of a blue whale. He's skinny and always gets hurt. That could be a problem for Manziel as well.

Why the hell are we looking to sign Brandon Lloyd?
