Hard to be a RB in a league with 3 downs.

The other guys don't seem to have an issue with it.

RBs fumble. That has nothing to do with anything. Kyle Williams fumbled not one but two punts in a critical game. They didn't cut him afterwards. He just doesn't fit the power run game. And Roman/Harbaugh have no clue how to use him outside of the read-option. So anytime he steps on the field, defenses already know what's coming. It was a bad pick in retrospect. He was drafted to add speed and explosivess to a offense that lacked those kind of players. But at a position where speed and explosion is probably the least desirable asset to perform well in our offense.

He was getting plenty of work leading up until that postseason, and then got touches during the postseason. He's been an afterthought ever since that play. That wasn't the deciding factor, but it's been a part of his demise. It surely affected his own psyche and the team's concerning him. Prior to that play he was following a natural progression as a young RB getting snaps and touches to the point where he was in the SB and had a chance to make a mark on the game. They trusted him in plus territory on one of the first drives. Instead he made the negative play that might have been the turning point, and didn't get a sniff of meaningful action since.

Yeah, but that was mostly because Kendall Hunter tore up his knee in New Orleans. Before that he wasn't even activated.

I think Idzik and Rex have done a really nice job this offseason and I definitely can see them competing with New England. They've added a ton of talent on offense and drastically improved the WR position. The depth at RB is much better now by adding Chris Johnson. I liked the Vick signing and it should be fun to watch him and Mornhinweg work together. They could use some more help at CB but the Dimitri Patterson signing was a good one, he had a nice season for Miami last year.

Right now the only hole that stands out is a big TE and if they get Ebron in the draft that would take care of that.

I think this team has a lot of potential.

He got touches because Hunter tore his Achilles in the Saints game that season. When healthy, Hunter is the more more well rounded back. If you also remember, the read-option was the craze that post-season so of course he's going to see more snaps than Dixon in that scenario, being that he played in a similar package in college. It doesn't help that he has no vision inside the tackles. James could be a nice spark plug in zone-blocking run scheme. But in a power-based scheme like ours, with O-Line that struggles with the 'finesse' type of plays(screens, outside runs), he's a square-peg in a round hole. Its that simple.

I root for the Jets, but this is the ultimate "paper" offense right now. The three FAs they signed to be their 1a RB, starting QB, and No. 1 WR were all let go for a reason and all have major question marks to answer. Bigger names than games I fear - and it usually materializes way less rosy than fans envision following free agency.

If Morningweigh is able to get a cohesive offense led by that trio, it would be a minor miracle.

Seriously, I'm shocked at how many people praised these signings, especially the Vick signing.

If you find unacceptable amounts of turnovers, a complete inability to read a defense, and yearly injuries fun, then yes, Vick is the most fun QB in the history of the NFL.

Vick, for all his faults, is still an upgrade at the most important position on the field.

But that doesn't mean they'll get the results they want.

I honestly don't see how Vick is an upgrade. Geno wasn't great last year, but he should improve in year two. Vick has been mediocre for the past three years. At 34, his best years are well behind him.

For all this faults I do think that Lloyd may have had the best catch I've ever seen.

I understand the Jets need to try to improve and add more weapons on offense. I see these signings as muddying the waters, though.

Vick is more likely to be a setback in the potential growth of Smith than he is to be a solid starter.

CJ?K is looking washed up, and will likely have the same affect on the backfield situation with Ivory, though obviously that is not as much of an issue as the potential to hammer the confidence of a young QB.

Decker has to prove it. I think he's a good player but not a true #1 WR. There's nothing wrong with that, though. However, if remains to be seen if he's worth the money he will be paid. Ultimately, I don't have any real issue with this signing. He's young and good. $7M per year is decent for him and the Jets. If Hill develops, they could be a nasty tandem for a while.

Bleh, I was at that game. I remember Jeremy Shockey getting behind Tony Parrish either for a score or being at the one yard line. Cody Pickett was our quarterback. Truly dark times for the franchise.

How so? The Jets can't play Smith unless he's ready to be good - they aren't running a training program, they are trying to win. If he shows that he is, he'll beat out Vick. They shouldn't hand him the job - this is good for his development. He was in there by default and did horrible last year. Maybe a year on the bench would help him if he does get beat out. I've had my doubts about him since before last year's draft and he did nothing to convince me he's starting QB material. Everything he does on a football field looks difficult. He's got to re-learn how to play the position from the ground up. I would be happy if the Jets drafted a QB, and really wouldn't be surprised. Idzik comes from Seattle where they took Wilson when they had a young starter they signed to a big contract.

Vick still has ability. I like that he's on his last chance too. He can give it all, he's got nothing to lose at this point. We expect him to get injured. If it happens it's no big deal - I think that's a better situation than previously for him. Plus, MM was his OC during his best year in Philly. MM is a very good coordinator. He can revive Vick or at least put him in position to make some plays unlike last year.

CJ hasn't been a good player for years so I'm just hoping he breaks 3 40+ yard runs. That's it. They should still draft a RB and Ivory is a better player so him staying healthy is more important.

Agree with you on Decker - it was a good deal given the circumstances. You can't blame the team for using their cap space on a young, good player. They didn't have a No. 2 WR let alone number 1 so although Decker might be miscast, they had to start somewhere.

As for Stephen Hill - he's done. I still can't believe he scored 2 TDs in his first game. He is a bad, bad football player and if he even stays in the league for 2 more years I'll be shocked. He's definitely not developing on the Jets after they draft a WR to be the No. 2/3 this year. Decker/Cooks/Kerley sounds good. I also like Allen Robinson for them.

I think there is a misconception out there that if you sign someone in free agency that player must be good.

I dunno if Lloyd has the most ridiculous catch of all time, but he's probably got the strongest library of ridiculous catches.
