Its totally true. Cameron Heyward and Cortez Allen are up next for contracts (Ben as well)

They are tight with the cap, but this is what happens when you keep a superbowl roster together and those guys start to get old and make too much money.

The current seahawks are much like the steelers were 6-7 years ago (possibly the giants as well?). Drafted well, young core players, franchise QB, good defense, a scheme that is very much "next man up".

Yeah we're both dealing with the back end of that success, where the age and contracts plus loyalty to these veterans starts becoming crippling, plus because those veterans held their starting jobs for so long a lot of your developmental guys behind them that were supposed to replace them wash out bc they never got the playing time you'd want them to get, or they were just busts to begin with, and it sets your roster back.

Both of our teams haven't been great at drafting lately, just average. And it's starting to rear it's head now.

We both can still compete bc of our quarterbacks but we're not the same talent level we used to be.

I'm hoping in 2 years the rosters will be reshaped and our qbs can give it one last hurrah.

Bingo.

In any case, I'm hopeful Pittsburgh can be a legitimate contender by the start of next season. The defensive overhaul is almost complete, only Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu are still there. Shamarko Thomas is set to replace Polamalu, not sure who it will be for Taylor though. On paper, both the D-Line and LB group are already rebuilt.

The team is much younger now and just needs playing time and cohesion.

Ages of starters:

QB Roethlisberger - 32
RB Bell - 22
FB Johnson - 25
WR Brown - 25
WR Wheaton - 23
TE Miller - 31
LT Beachum - 25
LG Foster - 28
C Pouncey - 24
RG DeCastro - 24
RT Gilbert - 26

LE Thomas - 27/Tuitt - 21
NT McLendon - 28
RE Heyward - 25
LOLB Worilds - 26
ILB Timmons - 28
ILB Shazier - 21
ROLB Jones - 24
CB Taylor - 34
CB Allen - 25
SS Polamalu - 33
FS Mitchell - 27

Man that defense looks a whole lot different. Are Timmons, Polamalu and Taylor the only ones who were starting when they lost to GB in the Superbowl 3 years ago?

Probably...the old guys have been on the outs for a while...first it was smith, then hampton, farrior, foote, clark, woodley, harrison, keisel.

Harrison and keisel id like back but theyve got some great young talent now. Timmons is king on the defense and Heyward is a wrecking ball, looks like a young richard seymour

"old and slow" isnt going to be the case much longer...the last 2 old guys really are troy and ike...and they are the fast ones lol

Started following the draft in 03.....crazy that troy polamalu and ben roethlisberger are the oldest players on the team. Pretty much come full circle. All the guys that were in their prime back then are long gone like Aaron Smith, Ward, Plax, Porter, Farrior, Hampton, ect....

Seahawks ink ring-chasing Kevin Williams. Love this move. No risk and adds depth to a DT rotation that lost a few bodies and wasn't great in a couple of games.

The Seahawks needed to get better on defense -- sort of like Scarlett Johansson needs to get hotter and have bigger boobs, and the guy who broke into Sandra Bullock's house needs to be creepier.

Just kidding. It's not piling on; Kevin Williams is replacing Clinton McDonald, who went to Tampa Bay, to play DT in the nickel defense.

I really wanted to see my boy Jordan Hill get more playing time and he probably won't see much time on the field now.

So I poo poo this move.

Chris Houston cut as well.

Quote:
Detroit has released cornerback Chris Houston just one year after handing him a five-year, $25 million contract.

Houston had toe surgery in May and the team had publicly questioned whether he would ever be able to return to form.

Flowers wasn't our best CB and anyone who watched a Chiefs game last year would know that. He fell off dramatically, was set to make $25m the next two years, and wasn't showing up for OTAs because he wanted a new deal.

They want to extend Alex, but they have to extend Houston and Poe, both of which are more valuable than a short corner who doesn't fit the scheme.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Flow, one of my favorite Chiefs, but it was time.

And Eric Berry.

That said the Chiefs are ****** at CB if Sean Smith get's suspended. They are pretty bad off even if he doesn't.

I guess Phillip Gaines, the rookie out of Rice, is the other starter at CB for KC. I hate to see what happens to him going against Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger in a total of six games (not to mention if he runs into a really good #2 WR).

Wasn't joking about the Alex Smith comment.

Nice try at the hyperbole crackback though. It made me smile.
