I work in the Treasury department, directly next to the whitehouse. Earthquake was not my first thought.
Fun ride though.

We left the building. But for like 2 minutes. People just are going back in now. Apparently you're supposed to stay inside though.

The actual earthquake was kind of cool in retrospect, it was just the surprising nature that scared the **** outta me.

I just looked at the FEMA instructions. You're supposed to stay inside under a table or doorway until the shaking stops. When it's done shaking you're supposed to get into as open a space as you near no buildings or glass.
Nobody knew what was going on so I yelled it's an earthquake and a few people started freaking out haha.

Read up on the New Madrid Fault, you won't be glad you did.
Spoiler: it was so powerful I'm made the Mississippi river run backwards and formed a lake (only 200 years ago).

Honestly I was just doing it to alert people as to what it was because everyone was like what was going on. I just yelled it to a few of my friend in the area I'm in but some others shouted then.

It was pretty light in Connecticut, but still perceptible. My desk wobbled for a few seconds and that was it. Little disappointed it wasn't stronger, actually.

It was felt in Ohio, too. I didn't feel it, but I saw people from Cleveland and Cincinnati tweeting about it before I heard anything else about it.

Is there a set time as to when the first aftershock would be felt? Like 1 hour after, 2 hours, etc?
