Pretty tough for McDaniel to play better when he's not playing

Yes, he is injured for the rest of the year, but he has played 6 games this year, and either has not seen the field, or when he has he has not done much. Again like I said before, getting out played by freshman, even before his injury.

You said this exact comment after week 5...haha

I think he is awful, that is why! ;o)

No clearly the kid can play and is working his way into becoming a very high draft pick, could argue he is ahead of guys like Jeff Fuller and possibly Ryan Broyles. Smooth player, good route runner, and surprisingly strong as well. No real surprise he is doing well, he was good since he was a freshman.

Week 9:
*Casey Hayward SR CB Vanderbilt: Heard people talk of him before, and he is the real deal. Great ball skills, is not a lock down corner but plays the pass well, has long arms, reacts to the ball and can keep up in coverage. Is a great 3rd to 4th round prospect at corner, very interesting talent.

*Michael Thomas SR SS Stanford: Did not have a great game but showed he is a big time talent and has a chance at the next level at safety. Plays coverage well, can man up on a receiver, tackle well in space, has good technique and just an all around solid safety prospect as a second tear safety.

*Jaz Reynolds SOPH WR Oklahoma: Really big time game, made some sick one handed catches. Tall lengthy kid, is next in line for big things at Oklahoma. One could argue he is the most talented receiver on the team right now, but same could have been said for Dejuan Miller a few years ago.

*Alfonzo Dennard SR CB Nebraska: Is on everyones radar, has disappointed the past few weeks. But this week he played huge, made amazing plays on the ball in the air, was right on the receiver at all times. Great ball skills and really showed off his ability against Michigan State.

*Jordan Matthews SOPH WR Vanderbilt: Big time receiver, thick lower body, has great hands, hard to tackle and is tough. Could be a big time prospect in time.

*Chris Givens JR WR Wake Forest: Very interesting prospect at receiver, fast, can take a hit and get yards after the catch. Great route runner and good hands, very interesting player on a down Wake Forest team. Is there one true weapon on offense.

*Chris Gragg JR TE Arkansas: Could be an amazing tight end prospect, can really run, has a big wide body. Soft hands and long arms, he could just explode at tight end next year if he sticks around. Really talented player and arguably a better prospect than DJ Williams from the year before.

*Chris Marve SR ILB Vanderbilt: Has been around for awhile, stocky player that can back a punch, could be a great 3/4 ILB potentially. Good blitzer, aggressive and tackles well, solid late round prospect at this point.

*Jerry Franklin SR OLB Arkansas: Played a great game against Vanderbilt, probably the best game I have seen him play. Was all over the field, making tackles, he can really run and is tough at the point of attack.

*Jordan Rogers JR QB Vanderbilt: Is a decent NFL prospect at this point, has a quick release and is a good athlete. Sad he is not a freshman on Vanderbilt and has time to develop, only has one more year to make it count. Still bringing great hope to that school along with a fine new coach. Impressed overall with their program.

*Eltoro Freeman SR OLB Auburn: Probably the best game I have seen him play. Very tough aggressive linebacker, was all over the field, made big plays and big tackles. He has to keep that consistent high level of play up because this years class of linebackers is a good one.

I was going to start a thread about where people thought he'd go, but then I saw this. I'm a huge fan of Hayward's. Have watched him religiously this season. He does everything that a defensive coordinator of a Cover 2 or off-man coverage team wants out of its CBs. I agree he's not a lockdown man CB, but there aren't a ton of those anyway. I don't think he has ball skills as much as he has ball awareness. Better ball skills would have led to him having 3 INTs this weekend vs. Tyler Wilson. But he did have 5 PBUs. He's probably the smartest CB in the nation. The 3 dropped INTs were wonderful plays. First, he was in Cover 2, and followed the QBs eyes to make a play on the ball when he knew he didn't have any flat responsibilities. Second, he was in man coverage and played the WR perfectly. The WR reached out for the ball and Hayward read that and turned to make a play on the ball himself. Third, was Cover 2 also, I believe and he jumped a flat route for a near pick 6.

With the Bears having a pipeline to Vandy and all, I'd love Hayward to be the next Commodore in Chicago next year. I have him targeted in the 3rd round, with Carolina's 3rd (for Olsen) if necessary. 3 of the Bears 5 CBs are FAs after the season and I think Casey can come in and start as a rookie in the Bears system.

Rex Burkhead carried the Nebraska Offense in a big win over Michigan State. The Best Player on the Nebraska offense, he might not be the strongest or fastest but he runs hard and has good moves but can also run right through you.

Any thoughts on big Jon Hankins? Dude is a full on beast as a sophomore. Has the potential to be special next year and I expect him to rocket up boards next year.

Oh maybe it's because both of their names end in 'head'.

There are more comparisons then I originally thought. White, college in Nebraska, and similar last name's. They must be clones.

John Simon. 4 sacks and 7 tfls in the last two weeks. Guy is just a monster.

As far as his pro potential, I think it's at linebacker in a 3-4. He is 6-2/270 and was a 3 technique DT last season, was supposed to be the strongside DE this season but due to Nathan Williams missing the entire season Simon has been playing that LEO spot a lot, which involves him standing up in a two point stance a lot. Very strong player (look at his upper body, geez) but he doesn't have the length to be a DE in the NFL imo.

It was against the Vols...but true Freshman, Brandon Wilds, did a fine job of filling in for Lattimore. You could tell he wasnt used to such a workload, however. Lattimore never seems to tire, Wilds was sucking some wind for sure.

But yeah...

28 carries, 137 yards, 3 receptions, 31 yards.

That's all of Lattimore's workload.

Wilds did impress, but other South Carolina backs did ok from time to time then dropped off the map totally. But it was a good start for him, really the offensive line is the reason he did well though, they are a good group run blocking. Jeffery sadly really is starting to appear out of shape. Great in jump ball situations, and is playing with awful quarterbacks, but his conditioning is lacking and because of that and his overall lack of great route running receivers like Blackmon or Floyd could easily over take him and be picked ahead of him.

He is playing well, much better than last year but like others have said I doubt he comes out early. Just way to much linebacker talent to put up with, he would be lucky to be picked in the 3rd round, because most likely if he came out he could drop way down.

I agree totally, with all this hype around Poe, give me Hankins instead over time. Shows crazy good conditioning for a man his size, great athlete, plays hard, runs plays down field and is just an all around elite defensive lineman potentially.

They both run hard for that size yet Woodhead is probably a little quicker.

They both run hard for that size yet Woodhead is probably a little quicker.
For that size?

Woodhead is 5-7 and 3/4 and 195 lbs. while Burkhead is 5-11 and 210 and has the body to add some more weight.

Again, they aren't even similar.

Maybe you should take the lap and pick up some knowledge on your way around the track...

Bjoern Werner looked great again, showed amazing awareness by reading the QBs eyes and dropping back a few steps to intercept a pass. FSU is about put out alot of defensive players to the NFL the next 3 years.

Werner looked good. I also remember a play where he beat the T off of the edge on a running play and just blasted the rb right after he got the handoff. I thought Nigel Bradham - olb made a tremendous play on one of the screens BC tried. They showed the angle from behind him. He diagnosed the rb heading out into the flat. Got thru the traffic. Made a nice form tackle instead of going for the kill shot. 8 yard loss. I watched him in the OU/Clemson games and he took some dumb penalties. If he doesn't do that, could be a player

I totally agree, Werner looked great, and of the Florida State games I have seen this year, it was easily the best game for Brandon Jenkins. Might have to do with the sub par BC offensive line though.

As for the defense overall, could argue there are at least 17 pro prospects on that defense right now. The defensive line alone has 8 I feel, just an amazingly productive group of young defensive lineman, especially at DT. Really impressive group, and that is why they had such high expectations to start the year. Would be interesting if they would have won those games if they had Nick Moody, because ever since he came back, they have been lights out on D.

DE Werner
DT T.Jernigan, C. Erving
DT McCloud, J. McDaniel, Dawkins
DE B. Jenkins, Carradine
OLB Bradham
ILB C. Jones
OLB T. Smith
CB Rhodes, Harris
CB Reid
SS Moody, Parks
FS Joyner
