Not really all that surprising, and I expect the same types of things happen with football programs across the nation to different extents. But then again wasn't it a couple years ago where he had a bunch of players get in trouble and their punishment was to pick up garbage at the stadium and that's it? This could be bad if there is proof that he ignored wrong doings or tried to prevent illegal acts by his players from being reported to the police.

Yes, that was bolded in the quote I posted above.
I believe those players broke into some people's house and kicked their asses. You know, in good fun. Kids will be kids. Nothing a little garbage duty won't cure.
It really boils the blood when you see it all put together.

Ha, there's just so much dirt that keeps coming out with this that I can't keep track.
And I don't know what any possibly legal ramifications are, but I would think Paterno's apparent history with ignoring illegal or immoral acts, or possibly covering them up, could contribute to any criminal charges against him in this case. Would they be able to say he's criminally negligent to allow these things to happen without doing anything? Or providing an environment that nurtures these types of acts?
It's becoming harder and harder for me to want to believe that Paterno was innocent and just got caught in the middle of it. Maybe if this all happened in the last 5 years I would buy that he's just an old man and thought what he was doing was good, but not all of this supposed stuff.

I think he had a vision, and the reality turned out to be far different than his vision (the ******** about the Great Experiment).
But he tried to control information to craft perception to make it look like the Great Experiment was a grand success. He got caught up in winning and having people think that the way he was winning was with good students that didn't get into trouble.
Too much power and too much ego are a bad combo.

BTW, Shane mentioned long ago that there could be NCAA sanctions out of all of this. I didn't think there would be, but the crap that is likely going to be uncovered might get really ugly.
It already looks like LOIC and it might get a lot worse.

I'm still waiting for the hammer to come down on OSU. So I feel like the NCAA has no part in this unless it has to do with player/recruiting/practice violations.

What does osu have to do with this?
Anyways with all of the external eyes on psu there is going to be a lot of potential for NCAA violations being dug up and in the public record.

I'm just saying that the NCAA is crack. They wanted programs to start cleaning up so they brought the hammer down on USC. But let UNC have slap on wrist, tOSU have nothing happen. NCAA are hypocrites, they don't know what they want and are still controlled by the universities, that is essentially who empowers them. It seems like USC sanctions were to harsh, after they handed them down. In my opinion they were fair, and tOSU and UNC should of had similar things. So lets no hold our breath for NCAA to do something about PSU.
Also with all these big programs coming out with scandals its seems like the NCAA is incompetent of its job, if it hands down such stern rulings with in a span of 2-3 years.

Any hear about ESPN possibly knowing about the Syracuse scandal and not reporting it? I think it's pretty ironic considered they ruined Joe Paterno's legacy over the same thing.
Not sure if it has been posted yet. I thought it was interesting

ESPN didn't ruin Paterno's legacy. He ruined it himself.

Im guessing your opinion on Joe Paterno was formulated by watching ESPNs coverage of the events?

let...it...go...
Joe Paterno has had innumerable reports of doing good deeds, but it doesn't matter here. One instance is all it takes to tarnish a legacy. It appears that he has always been more legend than man anyway.

Their excuse was that they never reported it because they had no one to corroborate the story. Not necessarily defending them, but i'm sure there is some huge legal ramifications if you slander someone like that without anyone to attest to it.

I can't imagine the things that Schefter and Mort know but can't report.

Yeah, Joe Paterno is just a swell guy. What with the power hungry, borderline racism in the 80s, holier than thou attitude he has.

You guys should take a minute and read this article. I think if you really read this and buy into it the fact that no one really knows what Joe did or didn't do, despite what ESPN or any other program out there bashing Joseph V. Paterno says. Joe doesn't even get the benefit of the doubt here? Really?

I know you guys are getting on me about defending a person. But I think peoples (especially the medias) opinion of him is wrong. I grew up idolizing Joe, so I apologize for being biased

Didn't they say, "It's not our job to give police the evidence we collect"
I'm pretty sure that quote is in a thread (video) in Off-Topic section.
... really? I don't see how that's a credible leg to stand on.

I grew up idolizing Chris Benoit to some degree, and I don't defend him at all.

Take it as a lesson that men are not infallible and do make mistakes. Sometimes continuously and willfully, despite how they may behave in other situations.
