Totally agree. He has a really good young group of core players and an impressive true freshman QB with a year of experience under his belt.

Just whoring himself out to the NFL. Guys committed to him and he leaves. Those players should be able to go too.

It's not right but it's the nature of the business unfortunately.

I don't see anything wrong with what O'Brien is doing. Almost every coach at any level dreams of one day being a NFL head coach, and that's exactly what he's being offered. This is not a lateral move.

He's given Penn State two good years, and I don't see why people act like he's indebted to them. Players were given a chance to leave before he took over, those who stayed almost certainly did so because of a commitment to the program in general, not just O'Brien. Concerning his recruiting classes, sure some probably committed to play for him, but the Penn State program in general played a large part in their college choice. Plus, at least publicly, he's never said anything remotely indicating that he was staying at Penn State for the long-term. Those who committed to him had to have been aware that there was a mutual interest with him and the NFL. In addition, at what point does that argument end? He'll never be able to leave Penn State without leaving certain recruiting classes before they graduate. If it's acceptable for him to leave then, why is it unacceptable for him to leave now? And with all that being said, at the end of the day, this is still Penn State. They'll have a lot of good candidates to choose from, these kids can still accomplish a lot before they graduate, with or without O'Brien.

If O'Brien wants to move on and he gets the opportunity, he should take it, plain and simple.

As a Penn State fan, this will suck if it happens, which 75% of me think it will. Honestly, after last season, I thought that it's going to happen eventually him leaving for the NFL, not if but when. I thought that once Hackenburgh committed, original reports are that Obrien told him he'd be here for the next 4 seasons.

Not sure how true the report is, but I understand Obrien's motives. Reason why he will want to jump to the NFL is if he can have say in draft personel decisions, similar to Chip Kelly, Pete Caroll, and Harbaugh to their extent, which they've found success. Add in Houston has the top pick and Bridgewater will most likely be the guy around a team that is built to win right now. Can't blame him for thinking about taking this.

I think it will happen, but if Teddy leaves (most likely) I can see Texas and Penn State ( if Obrien leaves) lining up to get him.

It may have been a misstep for O'Brien to make any promises regarding the amount of time he planned to stay at Penn St., but let's be realistic, basically anyone would leave their current job if they were offered a better one. Businesses retain their employees as long as it's the best decision for them, and employees stay at their jobs as long as it's the best decision for them. Realistically, a promise is pretty much only a promise as long as keeping it is in a person's best interests.

Penn State gets a cool 6 million if O'Brien leaves. That's more than they paid him to coach the team for two years.

So...basically they get two years of solid coaching for less than free. They have nothing to complain about.

It's a business plain and simple. He went out of his way a year ago by saying he wasn't a one and done guy. I guess he was a two and done guy.

Again i'll throw in my two cents worth that players should be able to transfer when their coach leaves and don't have to sit out a year. Would love to see Hackenberg starting for a team like Alabama next year.

Its Jay Glazer so take it with a grain of salt. According to him Leslie Frazier is out at Minnesota.

Not that this is a big shocker.

It's Jon Gruden, not John. Also, someone would have to be crazy to hire Frazier, Schwartz, or Shanny at this point.

So you don't believe any coach should ever leave his team? Because he will inevitably be "bailing" on his players, whether he's been with the team for two years or ten.

Also Detroit is supposedly leaning towards keeping Schwartz. lol

I don't know how Cleveland expect to have success if they change coaches every year or two.

I think that would be really stupid considering that they actually played well when they had something close to an NFL QB out there.

They also got the "guy after the guy" stigma out of the way and are an attractive job 2-years removed from the NCAA retardedly laying the hammer down upon the program.

The program still does, I don't care about what the players deserve. He's not bailing, he's simply taking a better offer that's being presented to him. It's like hating on a local branch manager taking a big ass corporate promotion because it's being disloyal to his employees at the branch.

I also listed the wrong team for Wade Phillips. Clearly, those two typos invalidate the entire list.

Why argue over semantics. He's leaving and he has the right to pursue career moves but why say he isn't bailing when that's exactly what he's doing.
