I'm guessing Lombardi never wanted Chud in the first place and wants to hire his own guy.

This is what Haslam said of the coaching search:
Quote:
"Mike hasn’t been involved. I pick brains of a lot of people and call lots of people ‘do you know so and so.’ I’m not going to get into who exactly I did that with. I did it with a lot of people."
And here's what he said of the hire at the time:
Quote:
I believe we came back with the best person to lead the Cleveland Browns to the kind of winning format that we want to have in Cleveland and we all expect to have,
I guess Lombardi did not agree.

I don't know if that's true, but 50 years of sucking sort of backs it up.

I'm somewhat of a believer of McDaniels redeeming himself with another team and actually doing some not totally dumb things.

And then he'll go to the Browns, trade Hoyer for Cassel and prove me wrong.

Watch McD come in, openly pine for Tebow to be utilized, want Hoyer starting at QB, trading gordon and the Trent first rounder to move to the teens, then using the 2 first rounders on C.J. Mosley and Tre Mason.

I recall him saying that. I remember him touting McDaniels on the podcast as a great head coaching candidate who would do great when given another chance.

Because McD would be the GM... And, even so, people act like he didn't get rid of Cutler and Marshall for good reason. He knew he couldn't win or get his message across with those two in the lockerroom, and that was true.

Also, McD never wanted Tebow to get any playing time. Tebow's development was destroyed when McD was fired. He'd actually made a lot of progress.

You're just being a clown.

Saw this on a different message board, made me lol:

"Good news is that when McDaniels is named head coach, he will bring along Tim Tebow and then God will forgive Cleveland for whatever we did to him."

Couple of interesting facts:

1) The last 4 coaches fired in the AFC north have all been Browns coaches.
2) Pittsburgh has had 3 head coaches since 1969. As soon as they hire one, the Browns will have had 3 head coaches since 2012.

I never thought McDaniels would be even considered for a HC gig again after the debacle in Denver. I did not expect Cleveland to fire Chud so abruptly.

I would rather give Mangini another shot than McDaniels. Mangini is a very good Xs and Os coach and the lack of interest in him is somewhat baffling when year in and year out teams make puzzling hires.

I feel like we're in the same boat on this one. If I became an NFL owner/GM, McDaniels would be on my short list of candidates. That said, deep down, I'm sure he'd make me look like an idiot for hiring him.

What about McDaniel has convinced some he should be a prime candidate for a HC gig?

So Frazier, Shanny and Scwhartz are pretty much sure things. Garrett, Schiano, Allen, Munchak may all be fired too. With Kubiak and Chud already canned that leaves the potential for nine total positions to be open. I wonder if Kubiak could be considered as a coach some where else - I think he is a good one and they just had one hell of a bad season.

Adam Schefter reported earlier the Lions were leaning towards keeping Schwartz. I think that was before their loss, and subsequent reports have indicated the Lions may be cleaning house, but regardless I don't think its a sure thing. Although I hope it is for Detroit's sake.

Hey guys I heard coaches who come to the team and are given no quarterbacks and have zero chance to succeed deserve to be fired.

On top of that, lets punish him and give him no #2 or #3 receiver and no running backs and expect him to win a ton of games.

I think that Schwartz needs to go, but Mayhew should keep his job through one more HC cycle. I think he's a pretty good GM who just hired the wrong HC. Give him 2-3 years to get things back on track.

Don't feel much sympathy for multimillionaire players whining about coaches making them miserable. Mangini bascially does was Bellichek does, Bellichek was just allowed time to implement his system and get the right minded players for his team, a luxury many coaches are not allowed to in the one and done coaching world of the NFL.

Mangini was absolutely hated by the players when he was in Cleveland. There were more than a few horror stories about Mangini.

This one was hilarious.

Mangini was good in New York, but they built that entire regime around him. And it seemed like he and Tannenbaum had a really good thing going until Mangini wanted to move on from Brett Favre. I think he'd still be coaching the Jets and the Jets would be in a lot better shape had he been given another year.

He's another one of those coaches that pretty much never had the QB. When he had the husk of Pennington, things were pretty good, and he had that one year where Favre literally threw the season away...but that's it.

Cleveland was just a disaster. Like with McD in Denver, the team just gave him way too much control and he didn't do a good job. He didn't really understand valuations. For the most part, he just tried to recreate what he'd started with the Jets rather than look at Cleveland as an entirely new project.
