Honestly, I don't know if Stoops is good NFL type of coach. He translate more into mismatches in college than in the NFL.

Also, I hate Mangini after reading the little blurb in Nate Jackson's book about his short time with him. Seemed like he was trying too much to do "silly" stuff.
I'm not a Browns fan, but I've always thought he translated well into the NFL. I think the best translations from college to NFL are the teams that run pro style offense. I've always thought Oklahoma was the most pro style of the spread offenses, and Bobby Boy loves to run the ball as well, which bodes well for him at the next level.

His defenes translate as well.

I don't care what your aspirations were to start the season, no serious college football player goes into a BCS game against the Sooners and believes they're going to blow them out just by stepping on the field.

Alabama beat up on a ton of mediocre to bad teams this year. If they thought they were about to play Chattanooga, Arkansas or Georgia State, they got what they deserved for being arrogant and stupid.

No, those Tide players at least on paper thought OU was a worthy opponent.
They were simply outplayed by a Sooners team that collectively played their 'A game'.

The reality check for Alabama is they have no top tier pass rushers, their Oline is overrated this year and AJ McCarron can't handle consistent pressure in the pocket.

Wow. They should have kept them. That defense is one year removed from being a top unit. Wade is a good coordinator.

People were just calling Cleveland dumb for hiring a DC before a head coach, because the head coach should pick his own staff. How's the Houston situation any different?

I would rather hire Malzahn. What about Stoops seems so unique and innovative? Plus, the Stoops story has been debunked and word is he isn't interviewing anyway.

We are going to end up with McDaniels. Because Browns.

Will someone at least hold me when it becomes official?

The allure of Stoops isn't innovation, it's just the belief that he's a damn good coach.

It is easy to pick on Browns because they changed their head coaches regularly. However, hiring DC before head coach is not a bad thing because veteran coordinators are more important than a rookie head coach.

Holmgren brought in his system. Failed.
Mangini brought in his system. Failed.
Chudzinski brought in his system. Failed.

No more. Establish OC and DC so any head coach will have to actually manage games. All head coaches Browns have interviewed will have no problem with Schwartz running 4-3 for Browns. Turner and Schwartz as Browns coordinators should be better than "my guy" bs.

The Browns are clearly run by idiots. Remember when everyone agreed on that back when they traded Trent Richardson?

Rumors abound that the Bears will be changing to a 3-4 (Wade Phillips pleeeeeeze).

Personally I would welcome the move, and we have so few core members of the defense, now would be the time to make the change. I think we would need an entirely new defensive line (although Corey Wooton would be a good 3-4 DE if we resigned him) but we could use that anyway. Jay Ratliff played a NT in the 3-4, right?

Shea McClellin would play 3-4 OLB (which is what he should be playing anyway), and Briggs would fit in just fine at 3-4 ILB.

Ratliff was a damn good NT under Wade Phillips before, but I'm not sure if he could be close to what he once was since he has declined due to injuries.

Honestly, Chicago's personnel seems a bit small for a 3-4, but there isn't really anyone that I think is young and good enough to resist the change, that defense is pathetic. I'd probably just draft the best defensive player avaialble with the first-round pick regardless of scheme, and go from there.

Exactly. We have about 15-20 million to work with in FA and I'd expect almost all of our draft picks to go to defense. There isn't a young player on defense that's really worth resisting a scheme change.

Now would be the time.

Many forget that 10 years ago Stoops was one of the first to run the "spread" offense. He was like the Bill Belichick of NCAA in a way. Stoops was really the first coach I remember to run the college spread like an NFL team, meaning it was a gimmick offense. He would still run the ball, and ran it successfully. He still implemented other "pro style" things in his offense and always has. He' an innovator, just because he doesn't go to the extreme doesn't mean he's not

I'd love to see the Bears move to a 3-4 D. I think Briggs and Anderson would do pretty decent as 3-4 LBs and would be effective rushing the passer.

I highly doubt we resign James Anderson. Especially not for a 3-4.

I'm not a huge fan of the 3-4 defenses (just never have been) but the Titans need to seriously consider it. We've got the personnel to go in and transition pretty well if it's the right type of 3-4

If I were Tennessee, I don't know if I'd want to mess with the success guys like Casey and Morgan have had in the 4-3.

With Stoops, you get a coach who has finished every year but 2 finished ranked in the top 25. One year was the first year he got there, the other in 2009 when his team got decimated by injuries and rebuilding. 12 years with 10+ wins. He has an incredibly impressive resume.

He introduced the crazy fast paced no huddle offense in 2008 that destroyed opponents.

Now I just didn't know if his game really translates well to the NFL. I think it could, but he seems he would be a better college coach than NFL coach. Plus, he has a very cushy job in Oklahoma at the moment.

Yeah, where does Casey fit in a 3-4?

In the long run, Casey is a FA after 2014 and we'll likely let him walk, because, well, that's what we do. But if Glenn Dorsey and some of the other 3-4 guys can do it, Casey can do.

It's not ideal this season, but we do have many personnel that are probably better suited for a 3-4 than 4-3 (even though we've never ran a 3-4)
