I would agree that Ozzie should of had more options but we weren't expecting our O-line to completely bust.
Well, I don't know how much they were relying on Doss since they cut him before the season started. He was re-signed when Jones went down and even then that was only to get another punt returner on the team. What he showed as a receiver was a pleasant surprise even if it was only for a little while until the other options got healthy. Ed Dickson is not a blocking TE. He only gets that label because Pitta (and then Clark) is the other guy. Apparently he's not a receiving TE either with how bad his hands have gotten. Like I said before the offensive line is the biggest problem with the team and absolutely the biggest need to address. Osemele coming back will help but they still need two more starters.

Yea I was saying our depth was Dickson and after Pitta went down our only depth were blockers. Even on the practice squad we had no one who could come up and catch the ball. With Doss I am assuming that is who they were talking about before preseason when Harbaugh would say we are confident in "our guys". He just ended up being awful in the preseason and after we cut him that is were Ozzie could of made a move but like us Ravens fans been saying all year we didn't expect our offensive line to be pathetic.

No no no no no....

There's a difference between "discussing" and making declaratory statements with absolute certainty based on little to no information.

But if you want to roll with "sooo terrible Lions", be my guest.

I will at this time thank you. BBD and Brodie did a good job laying out what I feel to be true about Caldwell also. I think Zimmer with Norv or Chud as the OC would have been the homerun hire. The NFL recycles to many coaches and I'd rather have someone new take a shot at it then a stale candidate like Caldwell.

And of course this now also ties in to Rutgers. Rumor is Jim Caldwell will be brining Rutgers OC Ron Prince with him to Detroit. Great.

I don't think Ozzie is completely at fault. It's impossible to build up a whole team in 1 offseason. He revamped the defense, and was hoping his offense could hold up. It didn't. They got injured and they didn't have depth to supplant them.

This offseason he'll fix that. There's no such thing as a complete team in the NFL. If you get injured in the wrong spot any team can falter.

Should be a good one if he can actually put a scheme together. While his tenure as the main secondary coach has been short (that was Pagano's role while he was with the team), the players have shown improvements. Jimmy Smith is probably the best example. Ihedigbo was serviceable as the SS this past season too. I would have liked to see Elam under Austin's tutelage a while longer. I'd even get rid of Pees to promote Austin but that might just be my disdain for Pees showing through.

Yeah last offseason was definitely focused on re-building the defense and that worked out pretty well. The "big" losses of Lewis, Reed, Kruger, Ellerbe, and Williams were hardly noticeable and on a whole that unit was much better. I'd like to see what it could be with someone other than Pees at the helm though.

Pretty decent argument why Whisenhunt and Caldwell are basically the same coach.

who are some OC out their who pretty much have no chance to be a HC ever again besides Norv? With Flacco being 29 in two days I hope we get an experienced guy who can stay and give Flacco stability for the rest of his career

This offseason he'll fix that. There's no such thing as a complete team in the NFL. If you get injured in the wrong spot any team can falter.
Losing Pitta was the biggest killer. He was the guy to move the chains on 3rd and Flacco's go to guy in the red zone and everywhere else. Losing Pitta and Jacoby Jones early hurt bad and then the complete disappearance of the run game was the knock out.

It was a poor year but I'm confident Ozzie made the right moves generally. He isn't going to push all in this year and risk the future. I only wish he could have kept Boldin around.

The only HC jobs left are Cleveland and Minnesota. I have a feeling the Browns are going with Mike Munchak. They probably feel he would still be in Nashville if he was willing to fire his coordinators.

The Vikings possibilities are numerous. I don't think it will be Dan Quinn (DC, SEA). He would force a 4-3 under defense in Minneapolis. Everson Griffen would be the rushing OLB, but that would leave DE Brian Robison on the outside looking in (except for nickel DT). He's not big enough for a 4 or 5 tech end (and the starter at the lone rushing DE spot would obviously be Jared Allen). Greg Roman (OC, SF) might be a good choice for the Vikings, since he would continue the 2TE+FB scheme on first downs that has worked for Adrian Peterson.
