That's part of the problem. A lot of people I've talked to and a lot of things that I've read have said that the #6 slot is a tough spot to be in with this draft. Because you probably aren't going to get one of the BIG 5, and from what toony has said, there hasn't been a lot of demand to trade up to #6.

If we stay, I'd like Landry, Brown, Willis, or possibly Quinn. If we do trade down, I'd like to go to about #11 - #13 or somewhere around there. That way it gives us a shot to draft Willis or Brown; or we could take Bowe.

I don't think we'll trade up but I wouldn't put it past JA to do it if he feels like there's a guy there worth the risk of giving up a bunch of picks.

Ok well worst case scenario.

It's all but certain that Johnson, Russell, and Thomas will go in the top 5. Of the remaining players that we like I'd say it's probably Quinn and Landry so add them too.

That would leave Levi Brown, Willis, and Okoye as the most likely options if we can't find a trading partner (and you can never assume that you'll find one).

That would not be ideal, which is sort of the point, and probably why they are hesistant to make this move besides feeling forced by Rosenhaus. Neither of those players appear worth a 15 mil signing bonus.

I think a trade with the Bills with the Bears keeping pick 31 would be better for the Bears.

Clearly, but untill an actual official publicly comments on it I'm not going to believe it's anything more than rumor.

Um...he would play NT in this scenario. The fact that Tommie commands double teams routinely is going to benefit whoever they have paired with him. Personally I would be fine with Dvorack and Anthony Adams (and Tank eventually), but it would certainly be an option.

The most befuddling, and I guess, intriguing, thing in all this to me is how, there seems to be an opinion by media type that Briggs deserves more in value. I don't get that. I know, as a Bears fan, I'd take that deal in an instant, and then figure out what do, assuming that, a resolution between Lance and the Bears can't be reached amicably and the decision was that it was better to move on.

Anyhow, LaCanfora noted in his blog (first update in awhile by him) that he thinks the Bears are holding out for another pick.

Counter offer today! My guess the Angelo will settle for getting Lemar Marshall because at least he is a more proven Veteran than Rocky.

They said they would meet today and get an offer back within a week. I wouldn't expect any news till at least Wednesday or Thursday.

This is crazy apparently the Bears counteroffer might be Briggs and the 31st pick for #6, Lemar Marshall, and either Kedric Golston or Rocky McIntosh.

Why is that crazy? How much more value does Marshall or Golston have for you if you get Briggs? Doesn't seem like much more than the current offer. I would guess it would probably only be one (don't know why we would need both) but either way I don't think it's outrageous.

Wait they want Two players? I was under the impression they only wanted one. This is most likely the Bears high offer to counter the "low" offer of the Skins. Like I said the initial offer is usually never taken right away and neither should the initial counter offer...unless the skins take the bait. You can't blame the Bears for trying to find the limits which the skins would be willing to go to get Briggs.

Sorry if this was all ready posted but this link says they just want one player not two?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...e&type=fantasy

Update: The Bears are expected to counter the Redskins' offer of the team's sixth overall pick in next month's draft in return for Chicago's 31st pick and Briggs, the Washington Post reports. They are expected to ask for a player in addition to the Redskins' sixth overall pick.

Recommendation: The player could be middle linebacker Lemar Marshall who lost his starting job with the signing of London Fletcher or even Skins' 2006 second round pick Rocky McIntosh. Either way the asking price may be too high. That being said, if we have learned anything over the years it's that it's impossible to predict the Redskins' offseason moves.

I really don't see how the addition of Marshall would make that big of a difference. He's going to be a backup and he's 30 years old.

I haven't read anywhere where they were asking for both. I think Ghetto read the article wrong.

I'm pretty sure that Angelo is trying to secure a decent starting WLB as that's not a position we can fill at 6. If we can trade down to the mid 1st and take Willis or Poz that's fine, but he has to go on the assumption that we won't be able to trade down and the guys we currently have at OLB are all unproven.

I hope Washington takes the coutner offer so the Redskins can get even more screwed up. It'll be really funny 5 years down the road when WAshington has to cut everyone b/c of salary cap and then they don't have any young talent b/c they never draft anyone

Lance Briggs is 26. He's the definition of young talent.

Giants have entered the runnings from what I hear, Bears want #20 overall and a mid round pick, or #20 overall and a 2008 day one pick but the Giants are only willing to part with #20.

Just something to keep an eye on.

Come on Mr Cliche please tell me all these players they are going to have to cut 5 years down the line. Whilst you are at it please list all those worthwhile players we have had to cut for salary cap reasons in the past few years. One thing has nothing to do with the other

By the way if you age every NFL roster by five years, you would put virtually 90% of the league 28 or older. Your point makes no sense what so ever.

Well if the Giants are only willing to part with #20 I can't see them doing it. I'm not sure I buy it anyway. The Bills are supposedly in the running as well, but the Bears are generally incredibly tight lipped, which is why they were so mad at Rosenhaus. Nobody knew anything about the Thomas Jones trade untill it happened.

Where did you hear this btw?

So is that Briggs for the #20 straight up then? Or does that include our #31.
