With what? The Redskins have nothing to trade up unless they're willing to give up their entire draft next year.

Yea like someone said before...obviously JA wants is interested but just wants more out of the trade which is understandable...how can you blame him for trying to get more? i mean even if he tried to get more than what briggs and the 31st pick is worth, isn't that smart on his part? I mean sure any normal GM would laugh at it or just look at it as a counter offer, but if the skins accept like briggs and 31 for 6 and McIntosh and another player/pick, then JA just did his job...

that being said, I hope the skins are dumb enough to want briggs that bad lol

We got players, not only that but we are much more likely to trade up than trade down, if we dont get briggs and CJ doesnt get taken first i can see us trading up with the browns.

I think Lance Briggs' contract is gonna be a liiiiiiiiiiiittle bigger than any 6th overall picks'. If they keep signing and trading for players instead of drafting them, they'll find that all the good players have massive contracts and their cap room won't be so big.

The reason Washington hasn't had as much cap trouble as they should lately from this strategy........well, they've been to the playoffs one time in the last 5 or 6 years or whatever so it's not like they've been as stacked with talent as Indy or Pittsburgh or New England, etc.

does anyone think its possible that the bears don't want to be stuck in the 6th spot due to paying bonuses and salary, so they are trying to set up another trade to trade down prior to accepting the trade for 6? It seems logical and maybe a possibility but I was wondering if anyone thought it was a probable?

What players do the Redskins have that would make that kind of a difference to the Browns? I don't see it.

It's actually not much more, about 5 million in bonuses.

And your second point has nothing to do with your first.

Look at how much frivolous spending Cleveland has done in the last two years and they are still terrible. Seriously. I don't think you're anyone to talk.

My second point was referring to whoever said something about the Redskins not having cap trouble lately despite their spending. Briggs is gonna get a new contract if he gets traded and the 6th overall pick would not be nearly as expensive as Briggs' new Adalius Thomas-like deal. That's kinda besides the point anyways, they do this all the time and waste all their draft picks on nothing.

And no crap the Browns stink, andy Cleveland fan can tell you that. It's not like I'm braggin about how great we are compared to the Skins, I just hate the Skins along with the rest of the NFC East.

Where did you hear this btw?
It would not involve the #31 pick Sweetness...

And BF51 I heard it from Scout.com and a couple of other verifications that I have. But nothing official, my sources were wrong about Coughlin a couple months ago so I could be wrong here too.

The Bears already declined the Briggs for #20 offer, they want another pick whether it be this year or next, which I don't see Reese adhering to.

I don't want Briggs. Id be upset if we got him. He'll cost too much money. Like the player, but not the money he'll demand.

And the reason why the Giants are probably thrown in this picture is because of Drew Rosenhaus's relationship with the Giants. The Giants and Drew have a good working relationship, and he always tries to get his guys in NYG if he can because he feels we don't lowball players and treat them with class. So Im sure that Drew is somehow meddling in this trying to get Briggs in either Washington or NYG so he won't get low balled.

Yeah, especially since theres no guarantee that this current coaching staff survives beyond this year. Why invest in such a high end FA when this staff and system could be one and done?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Not to mention the gamble with Arrington didn't pay off long term so the Giants might not be ready to gamble again with a big time contract with a Linebacker. Now while Briggs is obviously a better player right now then Lavar I think he would run into the same issue in NY that he had in Chicago with Antonio Pierce being the so-called "leader" of the Giants Defense and that's something that seems to be important to Lance. I feel that the Giants rumor may be a ploy to get the Skins to up their ante so as to beat the Giants.

Thats a great call. Theyre probably just in the game to raise the stakes for Washington.

I don't think Briggs would have a problem in NY. Him and AP were college teammates, and good friends. AP actually tried recruiting him over here. But after his recruitment of Lavar failed, I don't know if the Giants front office will be willing to listen to him again.

Lance could fit in any system, and is better than Pierce. I don't think it's so much that Briggs wants to be the leader, he just wants to seperate himself from the stigma of being Urlacher's Robin.

But I've never actually heard him say that and think it's just something that is floating around as he had previously said that he would like to resign with the Bears under the right price (untill Angelo told him that he wasn't going to get that price).

Its hard to compare them. Pierce is a pure MIKE. Briggs is a pure 4-3 WILL. I like both. I think Briggs is more than a system player like the stigma he gets.

I don't know if Briggs can work the SAM position. Maybe MIKE in a 4-3 with big tackles in front of him. You think he can work at SAM?

I think to put him in the SAM would be to waste his talent. I do think he could work the MIKE though, and that is probably his more natural position.

Hmmm...Mike would be an interesting idea. But not for us. We have 2 MIKEs already. Pierce, and Chase. Chase is gonna be a stud, Im telling you.

Does Briggs have any experience calling plays and lining guys up?

Negative. That job went to Urlacher and Brown.

The staff told him he will compete for the job and as of right now, there is noone there to compete with him. We will likely bring in a rook in round 1 or 2 to compete with him but as of right now, the job is Wilkinson's job to lose.

Yeah, while Im rooting hard for Chase to win the job, chances are, Wilkinson will get first dibs. Its because Wilk has more of a WILL body than Chase, and he's faster, so they'd prefer to get him on the field instead.

Im against this line of reasoning. I think Chase has earned his right on the field. Every time he gets on the field he makes plays. Yes he's big and slow, but he's an absolute sledgehammer against the run and he can cover the flats in pass coverage and he can play an intermediate zone, so I rather have him. Reese is big on Chase, he said in exact words "Chase makes plays every time he sees the field" so Im hoping he gets playing time this year. He's a hard worker and dedicated. Not a whiner...he's my type of guy.

I would like us to switch to 3-4...I think we have the cliental in place for it, we just need a NT and a DE for depth, but thats a whole different discussion. Im holding out hope that we make the conversion to 3-4 if TC gets fired and we bring in a new HC. Another reason why I don't really want a LB for the Giants. Im holding out hope we switch to 3-4 in a year and we'll be fine at the LB position with Osi and Kiwi as rushbackers, and Chase and AP as ILBs.
