Jason Taylor to retire
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...lor-to-retire/
14 year NFL career, 6 pro bowls, 1 DPotY, 139.5 career sacks.
Think he gets into the HoF?

I think so after a few years of eligibility. Never was the same player when he left the Dolphins but was a top 5 defensive player for most of the decade.
I would have loved to have had him on the Pats when he went to Washington

He should make the HOF. Maybe not as a first ballot guy, but he'll make it in. The last 3 to 4 years have kind of hurt him more than it helped him bc he stayed in the league longer than he should have, but overall, you gotta give him his due.
Great player. Sucks when guys who put in work like him leave the game without a ring.

Kevin Greene is 3rd all time in sacks and he still is not in.

People said that about Bruce Smith too, but both he and Taylor have had 19 sacks in their last 3 years combined. (I fully realize that Taylor isn't on the same level of Smith, but he hasn't been any worse in his last 3 years than Smith was.)
I too think he'll get in eventually, but not on the first ballot. There is going to be a clusterfuck these next few years and there will be some hangover extending beyond that as guys who otherwise may have been first balloters take 2 or 3 tries, pushing guys like Taylor back a little.

This came immediately to mind. Only saw him play for Carolina so I didn't see him in his prime but by numbers alone, I'd assume he'd be in by now.
With that said, I think JT makes it as well. Dude was a beast.
As a Pats fan, I cringed watching him punk our OTs.

He was such a great player. Too bad he never won a Super Bowl.
Quite surprised Kevin Greene isn't in yet. Maybe playing for a few teams hurt his stock a little.

If Taylor got a ring, he'd be in similar to the Woodson debate before he got his ring.

I remember when he was one of the top 3 defensive players pretty much every year it seemed, don't know if he'll get in though.

Yeah I think that he is eventually a HoFer but he is going to have to wait a little bit to get in.
Side note, I still think that Champ Bailey deserved that DPotY.

The problem with Taylor is that I don't think he even has one post season sack in his career. As in zip. zero. zilch.
I think he may eventually get in, but not first ballot. Kevin Greene needs to get in first.

I think that the problem for Kevin Greene (and Chris Doleman) is that their careers almost perfectly overlapped with Reggie White and Bruce Smith, but those guys had 40-50 more sacks than Greene or Doleman did. Similarly, I don't think they would have let Richard Dent in if he hadn't played for the '85 Bears.
The voters seem to be overly critical of any sack-master who doesn't match the dominance of White and Smith.

Even then, they made him wait a long time.

JT also had 46 FF, 29 FR, 8 INT, and 9 defensive TDs. Not too bad.

Jason Taylor was a turnover forcing machine, and was a bigger game changer than Greene IMO. I was a big fan of both, but would probably take Taylor in a stand up role, or with his hand down.
