I would like to think I would notice, but its also preseason. The game I've watched I've seen obvious errors in ball spotting and other basic functions like running the clock. I hope they can tighten up these things but it looks bad right now.
As for the PI non calls, I really do like that you can actually touch a WR a little without a flag, but its gotten bad sometimes. I saw guys pinning arms down & jersey pulling with nothing. The worst was a corner completely ran into a WR and bumped him while pulling down his arm and the refs didn't make the call.
I'm on the fence if I like the refs being a little stricter on certain rules. Lots of delay of game & illegal formation calls. The normal refs give a little more leeway on those.

no disagreement on any count. i think the league needs to take the officials more seriously all around, both in terms of 'rewards' and punishment.
Quote:

And while they never announce it, the league office supposedly does critique the officials. But it doesn't help that they then go out an announce immediately after that they "stand by his call" and that BS.
|
this is a major problem. they need so much more transparency. when someone messes up on the level of the cutler pass, the league needs to reprimand the official. when the calvin johnson catch gets overruled, the league needs to suggest that the rule will be addressed properly asap.

But that might just be Bill Leavy. Only the top officials are supposed to be selected for post season games and that guy has been the ref for the two worst officiated games I've ever witnessed.
|
yeah, i feel like the playoffs, on a percentage basis, were officiated worse than the regular season. which made the above issues worse.
and i do understand that i'm talking about a hypothetical world where the nfl makes decisions that make sense for the fans, and not the real world where they don't care as long as people keep tuning in.

I just posted my predictions today and spoke well of the Panthers, but part of me kind of wants to see Newton enter a sophomore slump just so people get off his ******* nuts already.
Eli has TWO Superbowl rings. Newton has played ONE season and won SIX games in it.

Also, Andrew Luck on the same tier as Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco? I love Luck, but c'mon...

Well, my point is more along the lines of this is what the media does. It was you who I was talking to about that whole perception of us taking it easy after a super bowl win. And how the media thought the same thing. Bucky Brooks little opinion in that article, which is false.
So my point is this is the BS now that gets articles viewed. I don't doubt future BS article and rankings where they do stuff like this to get people to view it or talk about it. It really is a great marketing ploy, which is annoying because it means these experts can say whatever and no one calls them out on it.
I hate ESPN, and the NFL network with their rankings every hour on tv. Now NFL.com is starting to get on my nerves. Not all the writers, but a lot just say dumb stuff and nothing happens.
Adam Rank stated before who we would draft a franchise QB. I mean come on now.

Ryan Tannehill belongs in the next tier up. To be honest, I don't really see the need to divide those into two separate tiers, but screw it, I'll play along.

I might be inclined to take Schaub over Cutler. It's not like it's night and day between the two quarterbacks. I would put Cutler in the "elite" group that he isn't in though and the other 13 quarterbacks are.

I think the only thing for Stafford is that he's had one good season. But I see what you're saying. Heading into the season he should be ranked higher.

ESPN weirdly overrates Joe Flacco, or at least all of their analysts do. That confuses me.

Well he's never had any WR's and yet Cameron asks him to throw way more than he should. I wouldn't take him over Cutler or Stafford though.

I think Flacco is probably underrated on this site. The guy is 44-20 as a starter and has a winning post season record. His team is a major part of that but it still counts.
By no means is Flacco an elite QB, but he is right outside top 10 still

Flacco gets stepped on too much on this site. You're right about that.

I'm eager to see what Cutler can do this season, with a real starting NFL WR. I thought he was a future top-5 QB when he was in Denver; then he was traded to Chicago and his numbers took a hit, but they've been a damn good team when he's been in the lineup over the past two seasons.

Don't know if its been said(or really matters) but the Bengals did indeed sign Jeff Faine per their website. Hinted at the possibility of Cook missing half the season.
Any Bucs fans that could say how he did last year with y'all?
