Default Mychal Kendricks, LB, Cal

OK.

OK.

I just watched his USC and Stanford tape (you can find them on youtube) after reading that he won Pac-12 DPOY and ran a blazing 4.47 40-yard dash today.

There was no thread for him.

To put it lightly, this kid is very, very, very good. And it's criminal that he's not getting any hype.

His instincts aren't incredible, he's 5-11 and just 240 at MLB, and he doesn't look all that fluid dropping into coverage. But that's about where the negatives end (unless he's very stupid or has character issues - I don't know).

Other than that - he's extremely explosive, tough as nails, awesome at shedding blocks, fast and aggressive as hell, and a tackling machine. His technique isn't perfect and he'll definitely take the brunt of some hits, but my goodness is his tape impressive.

Maybe teams expect that he'll have to transition to OLB and that might affect how his game translates because of a new position, but this kid is so criminally underrated right now it's not even funny.

He made a sack on Luck that was like... he was there in .000000001 seconds like a bullet. And he just looks like one of those backers that just LOVES to hit. Like the opposite of Zach Brown. Awesome at getting through the trash and finding the ball.

Unless I'm missing something, I'll be shocked if this kid falls to the 3rd round.

I wanted to talk about him too... I just watched his stuff on the NFL Network.
He has the look of a 34 OLB, but does he not have the game for that position???

He doesn't have the size to play outside in a 3-4. He's 5-11, 240.

He plays like a Mike, but he might be a Will at the pro level.

What are the measurements of James Harrison, and Elvis Dumervil?

Dumervil's got 20 pounds on him and played DE in college. And he only played OLB because DEN switched schemes when he was there.

Harrison is only 6'0" and sub-250, but he's the exception, not the rule. And he's a pass rusher through-and-through. Kendricks is a 4-3 backer through-and-through, he played 5 yards behind the LOS usually, never up at it, and rarely blitz. Read-and-react from his Mike spot, there's no reason to move him to 3-4 OLB. He's a complete project if you switched his position that drastically. No reason to do so.

Than I don't want him.
We need a beast at OLB.
He looked like a beast to me with speed and agility, low center of gravity and speed.

I watched just to see if he is any good... and he is a great college player. 0 NFL future.

But I did find a funny moment in one of the videos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx6M5D0RRUo

At 3:55, Matt Barkley does a face plant after a handoff on a run play.

5'11" is going to limit him no question - but inside or outside in college he showed up. Good for him that he worked out well - hopefully will offset his height a little and get him an earlier slot on draft day.

Video confirmed my first thought when I watched him yesterday, Pisa Tinoisamoa. The Chicago years. Good depth and a nice role player but no star quality.

Pisa Tinoisamoa.

If the Redskins dont package mulitple picks to move up for RG3 I would love to see them take Kendricks in the 3rd/4th to learn behind London and take over in a few years

He made a lot of money today and will get some interest in rounds 2 or 3.

I watched both of those cutups last night, and I wasn't impressed at all with his game against USC. Now the Stanford game, he played awesome. I wouldn't be comfortable taking him before Round 3 based on those two games.

I think he'll end up going in the first round. Baltimore is a possibility. As is New York. He'll be among the first 45 players selected. I'd argue he won't fall past Seattle's 2nd-round pick.

Well, I've been saying I like him better than Kuechly. Rather Kendricks in the second or third than Kuechly in the first, but if you made me pick one at 12, I might just take Kendricks anyways.

Sporting News draft analyst Russ Lande rates Cal LB Mychal Kendricks as a top-25 overall player in the draft and considers Kendricks "likely" to be a first-round pick.
Kendricks isn't commonly included in first-round mock drafts, but Rotoworld's Josh Norris calls him Jon Beason-esque, with better measurables. Kendricks was the 2011 Pac 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and absolutely shredded the Combine by leading all linebackers in the forty-yard dash, vertical jump, and broad jump. He certainly could sneak into the back end of round one.
...stock up.

I like him a lot. Him and Spence are probably my two favorite day two LBs and want the giants to pick up one of them in rounds two or three. Add Mike Adams or Stephen Hill in the first and a lineman in the third, an OT if we went with Hill or a DL if we grabbed Adams, throw in a big back in the 4th like Turbin and that's a great draft.

Doesn't really fit the profile of a Ravens first round pick. I don't remember a post-season riser like Kendricks ever being taken in the first round under Newsome's tenure. If you count Flacco I guess that's one but he was kind of on that first/second round bubble all year IIRC and he's a QB so w/e. Not that I wouldn't mind Kendricks being taken by the Ravens, just doesn't seem likely in the first round.

Kendricks IS NOT a postseason riser. His tape is that of a first-round pick. He won Pac-12 DPOY.

For whatever reason, the internet never ranked him highly enough on various lists, but I'm sure NFL scouts liked him after watching his tape. His 40 time is just proving what we see on tape - he plays fast.

He is a postseason riser. He wasn't a first-round possibility during the year and he is now because of workouts.

His tape may have been first-round quality before and after his off-season but plenty of guys go in the second that have first-round tape and some limitation like timed speed, strength, or in this case size. I'm not part of the camp that believes this really will limit him at the next level and I do think he is a solid prospect but he's a 4-3 LB and that's already a strike against him when it comes to where he'll actually be picked, and he's obviously behind at least Kuechly on possibly every team's board. And I can almost guarantee that's strictly because of size, because he'd have a lot more 'upside' to these teams if he was a few inches taller.

I don't dismiss the first-round talk but at the same time there are about 50 players that "could" go in the first round until the draft actually happens and there are of course only 32. There's something about Kendricks to the Bucs in the 2nd for me, personally.

I'm sorry but there is no way that the Ravens take this guy in the first. in fact, there is no chance that anyone takes him in the first.

His tape really isn't that of a first round pick not to mention he really doesn't play a position valued in the 1st round. I think he may end up putting himself solidly in the 2nd round with his tape and workouts.

Still, I would put him as more of a 3rd rounder at this point if I was putting a board together for my team. I just wasn't all that impressed with him this season and I sincerely doubt his ability to step in as a day one starter.

I think the guy profiles more as a 3-4 ILB where some of those big bodies in the middle will help keep blockers off of him. He has some trouble getting off blocks when guys really get there hands on him one-on-one.

Seems to be best when running downhill and attacking the LOS but is kind of hit or miss when sitting back and reading the right gap.

Moderate coverage skills and for a guy with his size and speed, might not be our first option on passing downs which may hurt him. Nice sideline-to-sideline speed and gives 2nd effort.

I just see a guy who at best will provide back up depth at least for the immediate future and I can't justify taking a backup 3-4 ILB in the top 100
