Kluwe as usual adds something to this that makes me lol...

I wonder if one of Gregg Williams' defensive schemes is called "Sweep The Leg, Johnny". #puthiminabodybag

I'm curious to see what the punishment for these transgressions will be. I mean, we've got players all over the NFL coming out and saying this behaviour is pretty common around the league, you have to imagine there will be some sort of backlash if Goodell starts taking away one team's draft picks for something everyone does. I guess it's the old "Well who gets caught first?" kind of deal, but I think it's going to set a very interesting precedent when the ruling comes down. If they lose a first round pick and more, I'm not sure what to think about that.

We're talking about teams specifically giving their players incentive to injury offensive players. Goodell might just lose his mind on this.

I know it'll seem like I'm saying it as a Saints fan, but it would feel kind of cheap to heavily fine one team, when players(active and former) are admitting to it, and have admitted to it (SUGGS).

This is kind of what I was getting at with my post. Been a long day of writing papers. Not that I agree with the behaviour whatsoever, but I'm curious to see how heavily the Saints are hit in light of several players speaking to the regularity of this kind of stuff.

They're still the one's that got caught doing something that Goodell will drop the hammer down on. In fact Goodell may take out his frustration with how wide spread this is and how readily players are admitting to it, on the Saints.

It's one of those cases where, if everyone is doing it, the Saints would have to have been doing something particularly grievous to draw the attention of the league.

The Saints are laying on the anvil and we're just waiting to see how hard the NFL brings down the hammer. I'm not saying whether I agree with it or not, but the NFL WILL make an example out of them.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...g-suspensions/

Quote:
Mark Maske of the Washington Post reports that the NFL is considering long suspensions for head coach Sean Payton, General Manager Mickey Loomis, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and players who were involved in bounties.

How long? Maske cited an unnamed source who said suspensions could be half a season or longer. One person familiar with the NFL’s thinking on the matter mentioned the decision in 1963 by NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle to suspend Packers running back Paul Hornung and Lions defensive tackle Alex Karras for an entire season for gambling.
That is a hard swing of the hammer. And that isn't even mentioning the potential loss of draft picks for the Saints as a team.

Its safe to say N's 2012 season is basically over before it started. With the weight of this scandal and the upcoming punishments, I don't know if they can recover in time to put together a playoff caliber season.

Make a ******* choice. Stop begging for more defensive rights if you're going to make hits like these.

Seriously, and I respected these athletes who pretended they wanted to take the other team on at full strength. Ha. What ********.

Thomas Davis said it best so far: "I aim to hurt my opponent, not injure them."

I'm not surprised, Payton always looked like a self serving piece of ****.

They were probably to hopped up on Vicoden to read the league's memo to stop being douchebags.

Also, don't make it a Packers thread. I just said and showed that Delmas is the leagues #1 cheapshot artist. At the same time, I admit Suh has gotten screwed over on a few calls. Fair enough?

Now, ban Williams. Suspend Payton and Loomis for a half-year, and strip the Saints draft picks this year and next.

And fine and suspend every player that has admitted to participating in the bounty for hurting players, and sick the IRS after them for unpaid earnings.

Then let's move on to the draft.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, let's not get carried away here. Stripping the Saints draft for 2 seasons would cripple them for the present and future.

From AlbertBreer: NFL doesn't see this as a Gregg Williams problem. He's part of it. But the issue far broader than that.

Also, if Greg Williams was one of instigators of this whole thing why did the NFL approve of the move for Jeff Fisher to hire him onto his staff in St. Louis when he had already been investigated and proven to be guilty of bounties? And why did the NFL places the Saints in the Hall of Fame game?

They're saying Williams did this with both the Redskins and Bills in the past..I don't think that because someone leaked it about the Saints now - combined with all of the aforementioned players saying it's common - the league has to come down so brutally on them. Obviously there's been a huge uproar and now huge punishments are expected but obviously Goodell knows and has known about this, maybe since he took the job - that could even tie into the fines for basically any hard hits, especially on QBs. I don't know if he's going to be pressured into stripping the Saints of valuable assets because it leaked and is such a "shock" story to the public, while it was/is clearly common practice around the league for some time and obviously had a strong code of silence to this point.

When will the punishment be decided?

Do we know anything about the validity of the reports that Payton's agent was putting up some of the "bounty" money? That's a pretty important issue. If outside parties were allowed to partake in this, then it's potentially the worst case of corruption since Karras and Hornung were caught betting on NFL games. If an agent can get in on the action, then there's virtually nothing stopping a bookie from doing the same.

In that case, I imagine that season suspensions (and maybe even lifetime bans) would become very likely. I don't, however, think that the NFL will hand down a "Death Penalty" to the entire Saints organization. The league wants Saints fans to continue watching football games.

If there's a shot at something close to gambling being involved here, it's horrible news.

A guy could cripple an opponent for a bounty 5 times his annual salary and it wouldn't be treated as badly as it would be if he were gambling.

That is a pro sports death sentence if you're caught gambling.

Is this the moment where Peyton Manning's neck problems began in 2006 against a Redskins D coached by Gregg Williams? Amazing how these two huge stories could be linked.

When Tony Dungy shows me his medical degree, I'll consider his medical opinion on when exactly Manning's neck became an issue.
