That's the only 4 reasons why you would typically take a QB this inexperienced. Now, with the rookie wage scale, you can almost justify taking him without one of the 4 reasons listed above, just because the cap hit won't set the franchise back financially.

Which leaves me feeling "scared" the Browns may take him because he won't set us back financially and 90% likely he won't make it past #8 to Miami. And Miami most likely has him as their #1 priority, so we would have to take him at #4 unless we trade down to 6 or 7 to reach for him. Miami is in a different position to take him top 10 as their OC already knows his weakness and strengths, so they have reason, so a gameplan could be immediately formulated to conform to a QB of his type. Plus reason 2, Matt Moore is not the answer and doesn't exactly sell tickets.

You're missing the biggest reason to take Tannenhill so high...because he could become a franchise QB and if he never works out you only cost yourself a small contract and a draft pick. What the rookie pay scale will continue to do for QBs is exactly what it does to Centers in the NBA draft, the guys that show the potential to be franchise guys will keep getting drafted high despite how far away they maybe, because teams risk has been in large part negated. Tannenhill has shown the flashes that if put together on consistent basis would be a franchise QB, so any team without a franchise QB is going to consider him. Even a team like Cleveland that has holes across the board will have to think long and hard about pulling the trigger and dedicating the rest of the draft to adding weapons to the offense so that McCoy can do a decent enough job to justify keeping Tannenhill on the bench for as long as he needs to be ready to play and not cement any terrible habits the way Blaine Gabbert cemented his pass-rush-paranoia going into a rough situation before the Jags had a chance to show him where his balls where.

@Cudders Great post. Thank you for saying what I wanted to say. Won't know whether I expect him to succeed for quite some time, but there's a lot to work with and a lot to be impressed by despite the work he still needs to put in and development he needs. If it clicks though, kid could be awesome.

I understand the reasoning of "He could become a franchise QB". My biggest problem with him is experience. I also think that he's by default (Luck and RGIII are going #1 and #2 no questions asked) the #1 QB available in this draft. Makes me worry, he's getting all this love because of that reason.

We'll look long and hard at him, it was very telling our QB coach and OC was at his pro-day. With the wage scale it also makes it more feasible to risk the loss of this pick if it would be Tannehill and he doesn't pan out. I don't like it because I want a blue chip prospect with our first pick, but in the end, I have no control over it.
