Default Bar-bq's First 2012 Mock Draft! (Two Rounds)

Hi everybody! Long time no speak.

This year, instead of putting out mock drafts left, right and centre, I've decided to concentrate on doing it right. The plan so far is to see how this one is received and put out a final edition a couple of days before the draft. Love some feedback if you've got any. If you don't like your team's pick, help me out by telling me who you'd like instead.

Here we go!

ROUND ONE

1. Indianapolis Colts - Andrew Luck QB, Stanford

Insert pun about this being a Lucky pick for the Colts

2. Washington Redskins - Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

The Redskins traded up for a reason: his name is RGIII

3. Minnesota Vikings - Matt Kalil, OT, USC

Kalil is a ten-year starter on the Vikings OL. They’ll be lucky if they get ten starts from their current group.

4. Cleveland Browns - Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama

If the Browns are committed to McCoy, they better give him some weapons. Richardson is the best one available.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

The draft’s best cover corner for a secondary growing long in the tooth.

6. St. Louis Rams - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State

The Washington trade pays off: The Rams land their target and gain a mountain of picks.

7. Jacksonville Jaguars - Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina

The Jaguars need to do something about upgrading that pass rush. Floyd is a consideration.

8. Miami Dolphins - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M

Despite the play of Matt Moore down the stretch, I don’t see how the Dolphins can pass on Tannehill if he’s here.

9. Carolina Panthers - Fletcher Cox, DT, Mississippi State

For now I like Cox as an inside stuffer, but the DT class is deep and Stephon Gilmore is rising fast.

10. Buffalo Bills - Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa

Ideal scenario for Buffalo. Reiff will be entrenched in the tranches.

11. Kansas City Chiefs - Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis

Kuechley a consideration, but in the end the Cheifs plug up the middle.

12. Seattle Seahawks – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College

Who even plays linebacker for Seattle? Kuechly is as solid as they come.

13. Arizona Cardinals - David DeCastro, OG, Stanford

Can’t go wrong with a big ugly in the big desert.

14. Dallas Cowboys – Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina

Mark Barron has been the popular pick here for a long time, but I think Gilmore usurps his draft position. He’s a very well-rounded corner in the mould of Terrence Newman.

15. Philadelphia Eagles – Mark Barron, S, Alabama

Barron doesn’t fall far – Philly has just as big a hole in the secondary.

16. New York Jets - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame

Floyd could go much higher and I do expect a trade-up and the Jets are ideal partners. If they stay put, Floyd will be a reliable target for Sanchbow.

17. Cincinnati Bengals - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama

The Bengals need to jump on a corner now in order to avoid missing out altogether. Kirkpatrick is a top-15 talent.

18. San Diego Chargers – Cordy Glenn, OG, Georgia

Reliable road grader who could step in and start right away.

19. Chicago Bears - Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina

Coples has been sliding after an underwhelming senior year. Chicago gambles on his potential, and I think it will pay off.

20. Tennessee Titans - Michael Brockers, DT, LSU
Tennessee have had problems stopping the run and getting to the passer in recent years. Brockers can do a little from column ‘a’, and a little from column ‘b’.

21. Cincinnati Bengals - Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

Good call for the Bengals, they pick up the best available Corner from pick 17, an then the best available wideout from #21.

22. Cleveland Browns - Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

Maybe a reach, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Browns move back if someone really wants Jonathan Martin. As it stands, Hill is a boom or bust project who can really stretch the field.

23. Detroit Lions – Johnathan Martin, OT, Stanford

How long can Jeff Backus go? It might be time to find his replacement.

24. Pittsburgh Steelers – Donta Hightower, ILB, Alabama

Big thumper who will fit right in in the middle of the Steel Curtain.

25. Denver Broncos - Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State

The Broncos have been seeking out help in the middle after passing on Marcel Dareus last year. Worthy could be a good get if he plays up to his potential.

26. Houston Texans - Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Toss-up here between Reuben Randall and Mike Adams. The Texans will be fine with either of them, I reckon Adams is just the better prospect.

27. New England Patriots - Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB, Illinois

Mercilus sneaks into the back of round one and could be a ten-sack guy for the Patriots. They sure need one.

28. Green Bay Packers - Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

Scott Wells left for St. Louis – meet his replacement.

29. Baltimore Ravens – Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern St.

I like Silatolu as a sneaky first round pick. The Ravens will find a way to maximize his potential.

30. San Francisco 49ers – Rueben Randall WR LSU

Randall will be an excellent compliment to Michael Crabtree, as long as Crabtree tells Alex Smith it’s okay to throw somebody else the ball.

31. New England Patriots – Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut

Ty Warren and Richard Seymour are long hone. Kendall Reyes could be the next five-technique to start for the perennial playoff participants.

32. New York Giants - Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

Bit of a luxury selection, but if you’re the Superbowl champs you deserve one. Nobody knows when Kevin Boss will be ready, and even then the Giants could use an upgrade.

ROUND TWO

33. St. Louis Rams - Kevin Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin

Could be a ten-year starter in St. Louis.

34. Indianapolis Colts - Alshon Jeffrey, WR, South Carolina

Better give Luck somebody to throw to.

35. Minnesota Vikings – Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame

The Vikings couldn’t address their need safety from pick #3, but Smith is good value at 35.

36. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Doug Martin, RB, Boise St.

Missed out on Trent Richardson? Have a Doug Martin.

37. Cleveland Browns – Kelechi Osmele, OG/OT, Iowa St

Offensive upgrade: complete.

38. Jacksonville Jaguars – Nick Perry, DE, USC

I’ve gone back to the DL well. SOMEBODY has to pan out in Jacksonville.

39. St. Louis Rams – Brandon Thompson, DL, Clemson

Ideal pick for St. Louis, will slide right into the rotation alongside their new signees.

40. Carolina Panthers - Janoris Jenkins CB North Alabama

The Panthers haven’t been afraid to gamble on players with character problems before. Jenkins pays the price for his off-field issues, but still winds up a starter in Carolina.

41. Buffalo Bills – Courtney Upshaw, LB, Alabama

Probably the BPA at this point and will be a tackling machine for the Bills.

42. Miami Dolphins – Chandler Jones DE/OLB Syracuse

The Dolphins could have looked at Coples in Round 1.

43. Seattle Seahawks – Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall

Chris Clemens is old and I’m not even sure that anybody else plays defensive end in Seattle. What’s with these guys?

44. Kansas City Chiefs - Bobby Wagner, ILB, Utah State

The Cheifs gambled on Wagner being available in round 2 and it paid off. He and Poe will be cornerstones of their defense.

45. Dallas Cowboys - Devon Still, DT, Penn State

The Cowboys need DL help almost as badly as they need a playoff win.

46. Philadelphia Eagles – Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina

Zach Brown just looks like a Philly player. Will compete right away at OLB.

47. New York Jets – Shea McClellin, DE/OLB, Boise State

McClellin to the Jets makes a lot of sense. He’s exactly the kind of pass rusher Rex Ryan will love.

48. New England Patriots – Alfonzo Dernard, CB, Nebraska
Does anyone really expect the Patriots to keep this pick? They could use a CB if they do.

49. San Diego Chargers – Jared Crick, DE, Nebraska

Prototype 5-technique to start opposite Cory Luiget.

50. Chicago Bears – Bobby Massie, OT, Mississippi

The Bears can’t go forever without addressing their need at OT. Massie is a massive upgrade.

51. Philadelphia Eagles – Derrick Wolfe, DT, Cincinnati

Wolfe is a fast riser in this draft, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him go higher. Could be a rich man’s Broderick Bunkley.

52. Tennessee Titans - Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana

Cortland Finnegan’s absence will be felt in the slot. Johnson will try to abet their issues.

53. Cincinnati Bengals - Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

The Bengals need some speed at RB. Miller will be a home-run compliment to the fumble-free Law Firm.

54. Detroit Lions – Josh Robinson, CB, UCF

Robsinson’s a guy I really like in this draft. I reckon this is probably a little high for him, but Marinelli sees his promise and will continue to retool the defense.

55. Atlanta Falcons – Zebrie Sanders, OT, Florida State

Can we declare the Sam Baker era over already?

56. Pittsburgh Steelers – James Brown, OG, Troy

It doesn’t seem like there’s ever a year where the Steelers couldn’t use OL help. Big Ben will die if they don’t bring in more big men.

57. Denver Broncos - Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia

Scrappy and undersized, just how John Fox likes his defenders.

58. Houston Texans – Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers

I don’t love this pick for Houston, but they kind of painted themselves into a corner. Sanu is arguably the BPA at WR.

59. Green Bay Packers - Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska

It seems like the Packers can always use more help stopping the run.

60. Baltimore Ravens – Bruce Irvin, OLB, West Virginia

Like Zach Brown to Philly, the tough-as-nails Bruce Irvin just strikes me as a Baltimore Raven.

61. San Francisco 49ers – Brandon Brooks, OG, Miami (Ohio)

The 49ers bring in Brooks to start at guard, assuming that Michael Crabtree tells Alex Smith that this is okay.

62. New England Patriots - David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech

You didn’t think you’d get out of the first two rounds of an NFL Mock Draft without seeing a runningback mocked to the Patriots, did you?

63. New York Giants – Jeff Allen, OT, Illinois

Great value here and fills a big need at right tackle.

No real issues with Cox, but the second rounder for the Panthers has me scratching my head....

Character is the owners biggest pet peeve. He'll only sign off on a player if he feels they have matured and their problems won't be a future issue. Hard to see that being the case with Jenkins.

Personally I'd be fine with the pick but I don't see it given our owner.

Just and FYI you have Jared Crick at both 49 and 59....

Like the eagles picks, Wolfe is a fast riser and definitely wouldn't mind him a brown in the 2nd.

nice work

I really like Brooks a lot in the second. I'm not a ran of Randle but it's a realistic pick they could make.

i could deal with the patriots first round.... hits all of our major needs

yes, i expect the pats to keep all their second round picks. they find extreme value in this round and hardly ever trade out of the second round.

i highly doubt the patriots draft another RB in the 2nd round.... i cant see them spending 3 valuable, high picks on RBs in TWO years..... the only way, in my opinion, the pats draft a RB in round 2 or 3 is if they offer positional value (Chris Rainey playing some slot and RB) and offers ST value (returns punts and kickoffs)

I based the pick on the owner being fine with the controversy that surrounded Cam Newton all of last year. Noted, it's a different kind of character complex, so I can see where you're coming from.

Where do you see them going instead?

Can I read about this somewhere? I try to keep on top of that sort of stuff. Who would you go with instead? Hill?

Where do you see them going instead?
With how you have the board falling, Zach Brown would be a real possibility with the loss of Dan Connor in free agency and the uncertainty of Thomas Davis coming off his third knee surgery in three years.

Marinelli no longer is on the Lions coaching staff but I like the Lions mock.

I would take it for Buffalo, not sure I can see Upshaw falling that far into the 2nd round, but barring a trade for him before hand, he certainly would be a value pick. I agree with Red, he would be a DE in the Buff 4-3, maybe LB in goal line and heavy packages, but primarily a DE, not athletic enough to cover TE's and backs with any positive consistancy IMO.

I would take this draft for the Vikings. We have gone out and signed multiple CB's in free agency for depth purposes, yet the S position has not been addressed. Smith would start from day 1 for us, and obviously love the Kalil pick.

I won't complain, the Lions did pretty well. Although, I'd like to see them get Mercilus in round 1.

That being said, that seems like a very probable Miami draft and I'd be very happy about that. Although I do think they will address WR in the first two rounds.

Floyd and McClellin would be a good 2 rounds for the Jets.

It doesn't matter if you'd be happy with that. Your opinion doesn't matter. See? Don't I sound like a prick? So do you.

It would've been more informative to say "Alshon Jeffrey is a fat sack of crap waiting to happen and I think my front office is smart enough to avoid wasting a high 2nd round pick on a guy that doesn't work hard outside of game day". But I've said this many times already and am tired of repeating myself.
